Loading Index Card Size Media in the Paper Source2-28 Loading and Outputting Paper 2 3Load the Index Card size media so that the edge of the media is aligned with the front side of the paper cassette. CAUTION When loading paper, take care not to cut your hands with the edges of the paper. IMPORTANT If you use Index Card size media that has been poorly cut, multiple sheets of that may be fed at once. In this case, fan the Index Card size media thoroughly, and then align the edges of the stack on a hard, flat surface.

( : Feeding direction) 4While holding the lock release lever of the side paper guides, slide the guides to the mark for the size of the loaded Index Card size media. The side paper guides move together.

If the paper guides are too loose or too tight, this may result in misfeeds or paper jams. 5While holding the lock release lever of the rear paper guide, slide the guide to the size mark for the loaded Index Card size media.
2-31 Loading and Outputting Paper 2 Loading Index Card Size Media in the Paper Source 6Hold down the Index Card size media as shown in the figure, make sure that the stack does not exceed the load limit marks (A), and then set it under the hooks (B) on the paper guides. Make sure that there is sufficient space between the hooks of the paper guides and the stack of the Index Card size media. If there is no sufficient space, slightly reduce the amount of Index Card size media. IMPORTANT The following shows the paper capacity of the paper cassette. Be sure that the paper stack does not exceed the load limit marks. If the paper stack exceeds the load limit marks, this may result in misfeeds. - Plain paper Approx. 250 sheets (When plain paper that weighs 64 g/m 2 is used) - Heavy paper Approx. 170 sheets (When heavy paper that weighs 128 g/m 2 is used) - Label Approx. 100 sheets (A)(B) (A)(B) (B)

Push the paper cassette into the printer firmly until the front side of the paper cassette is flush with the front surface of the printer. 8Register the size of the loaded paper using the following procedure. This printers paper cassette cannot automatically detect the paper size. Therefore, you need to register the size of the loaded paper. 9Display the Printer Status Window. When the paper is loaded, it is sent into the slot a little. CAUTION When loading paper, take care not to cut your hands with the edges of the paper. IMPORTANT •Load the Index Card size media so that it is straight. •If the Index Card size media is curled, flatten the curls by warping it in the opposite direction before loading it. Next, configure the printer driver (See p. 2-59).
2-37 Loading and Outputting Paper 2 Loading Envelopes in the Paper Source Loading Envelopes in the Paper Source This section describes the procedure for loading envelopes in the paper source. The paper source that you can load envelopes is the paper cassette and manual feed slot. If you want to print continuously, load the envelopes in the paper cassette. When printing only one envelope that is different from those loaded in the paper cassette, load the envelope in the manual feed slot. IMPORTANT •For more details on the usable envelopes, see Usable Paper, on p. 2-2. •For details on handling the manual feed slot or paper cassette, see Precautions for Handling the Manual Feed Slot or Paper Cassette, on p. 2-12. Loading Envelopes in the Paper Cassette Load envelopes in the paper cassette using the following procedure. •When loading envelopes at sizes of DL, COM10, C5, or Monarch in the paper cassette, load them in portrait orientation so that the printing side is facing up and the flap is toward the right of the printer when viewed from the front.
