    Print Quality Problems
    Cause 3 Appropriate paper is not being used.
    Remedy Replace the paper with one that can be used and print again. (See Paper 
    Requirements, on p. 2-2)
    Cause 4 Data was sent before completing calibration, such as when the printer was first 
    turned ON.
    Remedy Make sure that the   (Ready) indicator is on before sending data to the printer.
    The colors of thin lines or filled-in patterns are different from the specified colors, or do not 
    appear at all.
    Cause 1 Some colors cannot be reproduced due to the combination of colors or 
    patterns.
    Remedy 1 Adjust the colors in the application and print again.
    Remedy 2 Change the patterns in the application and print again.
    Cause 2 The color may appear different depending on the fill-pattern.
    Remedy 1 Readjust to a darker color and print again.
    Remedy 2 Reload paper to change the feeding direction, then print again.
    Fill-patterns are not printed in the correct color (specified color).
    Cause The fill-pattern of the print data and the dither pattern of the printer are 
    interfering with one another.
    Remedy 1 Print again without specifying a fill-pattern in the application.
    Remedy 2 Set [Color Halftones] or [B & W Halftones] to [Gradation] or [Color Tone] in the 
    printer driver.
    In order to specify the setting for [Color Halftones] or [B & W Halftones], display 
    the [Custom Settings] dialog box by clicking [Settings] in the [Quality] sheet.
    The displayed color and printed color differ when printing photos, etc.
    Cause The method for adjusting color on the screen (RGB) and in the printer (YMC) is 
    different. Therefore, there may be cases when the color on the screen cannot 
    be printed out exactly as it appears.
    Remedy 1 Set [Matching Method] to [Perceptual [Monitor Color Matched]] in the printer 
    driver.
    In order to specify the setting for [Matching Method], display the [Matching] 
    sheet by selecting the [Manual Color Settings] check box in the [Quality] sheet, 
    and then clicking [Color Settings].

    Remedy 2 Adjust [Gamma] in the printer driver.
    In order to specify the setting for [Gamma], display the [Matching] sheet by 
    selecting the [Manual Color Settings] check box in the [Quality] sheet, and then 
    clicking [Color Settings].
    Streaks appear in the gradated portions when printing diagrams with gradations.
    Cause [Use Pure Black] is applied to the gray color portions of the streaks in the 
    diagrams.
    Remedy Set [Use Pure Black] to [Never] in the printer.
    In order to specify the setting for [Use Pure Black], display the [Custom 
    Settings] dialog box by clicking [Settings] in the [Quality] sheet.
    The back of the printed paper has smudge marks.
    Cause The size of the print data was larger than that of the loaded paper.
    Remedy Check if the size of the print data matches that of the loaded paper.

    Paper Problems
    Paper comes out wrinkled.
    Cause 1 Paper is loaded in the paper cassette or manual feed slot at an angle.
    RemedyLoad the paper in the paper cassette or manual feed slot straight. (See Loading 
    Plain Paper, Heavy Paper, Transparencies, or Labels in the Paper Source, on 
    p. 2-14, Loading Index Card Size Media in the Paper Source, on p. 2-26, 
    Loading Envelopes in the Paper Source, on p. 2-37, Loading Custom Size 
    Paper (Non-Standard Paper) in the Paper Source, on p. 2-47)
    Cause 2 Paper is damp since the paper has been stored in unsuitable condition.
    RemedyReplace the paper with new one and print again. (See Paper Requirements, 
    on p. 2-2)
    Paper curls.
    Cause 1 Paper is damp since the paper has been stored in unsuitable condition.
    Remedy Replace the paper with new one and print again. (See Paper Requirements, 
    on p. 2-2)
    Cause 2 Paper is inappropriate.
    Remedy Replace the paper with one that can be used with this printer. (See Paper 
    Requirements, on p. 2-2)
    Cause 3 The paper is too thin.
    Remedy 1 Set [Paper Type] to [Plain Paper L] in the printer driver.
    In order to specify the setting for [Paper Type], display the [Paper Source] sheet.
    Remedy 2 If the printed side curls outward, set [Special Print Mode] to [Special Settings 6]; 
    if the non-printed side curls outward, set to [Special Settings 7]. If this solves the 
    problem, set [Special Print Mode] to [Off].
    In order to specify the setting for [Special Print Mode], display the [Advanced 
    Settings] dialog box by clicking [Finishing Details] in the [Finishing] sheet, and 
    then clicking [Advanced Settings] in the [Finishing Details] dialog box.

    Flaps of the envelopes stick to the body.
    Cause 1 Envelopes are inappropriate.
    RemedyReplace the envelopes with those that can be used and print again. (See Paper 
    Requirements, on p. 2-2)
    Cause 2 The printer is being used in a high-humidity environment.
    Remedy Set [Special Print Mode] to [Special Settings 2] in the printer driver. If this solves 
    the problem, set [Special Print Mode] to [Off].
    In order to specify the setting for [Special Print Mode], display the [Advanced 
    Settings] dialog box by clicking [Finishing Details] in the [Finishing] sheet, and 
    then clicking [Advanced Settings] in the [Finishing Details] dialog box.

    When Nothing is Printed
    Check the following items if nothing is printed when printing from an application:
    1Check if any error message is displayed in the Printer Status 
    Window.
    IMPORTANT
    If not, uninstall the CAPT software and install it again. (See Uninstalling the CAPT 
    Software, on p. 3-75)
    2Print a test page.
    For Windows  98/Me

    Click [Print Test Page] in the [General] sheet in the [Printer Properties] dialog 
    box.
    For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003

    Click [Print Test Page] in the [General] sheet in the [Printer Properties] dialog 
    box.
    When the test page is printed correctly
    Printing can be performed from the CAPT software. Check the application to make sure 
    that all the settings are specified properly.
    When the test page cannot be printed
    Uninstall the CAPT software, reinstall it, and then print a test page again. (See

    If USB Class Driver and LBP5000 Printer Driver cannot be installed properly, 
    perform the following procedure to check problems.
    NOTE

    Uninstall the USB class driver. See

    When Uninstallation Fails
    If you cannot uninstall the CAPT software using the Uninstaller that was created 
    during installation, use the following procedure to uninstall the CAPT software from 
    [Add or Remove Programs] ([Add/Remove Programs Properties] for Windows 98/
    Me; [Add/Remove Programs] for Windows 2000).
    1From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and then click 
    [Add or Remove Programs].
    For Windows 98/Me/2000: From the [Start] menu, select [Settings]  [Control 
    Panel], and then double-click [Add/Remove Programs].
    For Windows Server 2003: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel]  [Add 
    or Remove Programs].
    2Select [Canon LBP5000] in the [Add or Remove Programs] 
    dialog box, then click [Change/Remove].
    For Windows 2000: Select [Canon LBP5000] in the [Add/Remove Programs] 
    dialog box, then click [Change/Remove].
    For Windows 98/Me: Select [Canon LBP5000] in the [Add/Remove Programs 
    Properties] dialog box, then click [Add/Remove].
    NOTE
    If [Canon LBP5000] is not displayed in the [Add or Remove Programs] dialog box 
    (the [Add/Remove Programs] dialog box for Windows 2000; the [Add/Remove

    Uninstalling the USB Class Driver
    Uninstalling the USB class driver is required when you cannot install the CAPT 
    software properly after uninstalling it once or when you cannot uninstall the CAPT 
    software.
    1Make sure that the computer is connected to the printer with 
    the USB cable and that the printer is ON.
    2From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and then click 
    [Add or Remove Programs].
    For Windows 98/Me/2000: From the [Start] menu, select [Settings]  [Control 
    Panel], and then double-click [Add/Remove Programs].
    For Windows Server 2003: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel]  [Add 
    or Remove Programs].
    3Make sure that [Canon LBP5000] is not displayed in the [Add 
    or Remove Programs] dialog box, and then click [ ].
    For Windows 2000: Make sure that [Canon LBP5000] is not displayed in the 
    [Add/Remove Programs] dialog box, and then click [ ].
    For Windows 98/Me: Make sure that [Canon LBP5000] is not displayed in the 
    [Add/Remove Programs Properties] dialog box, and then click [ ].

    5Click [Hardware]  [Device Manager], and then double-click
