7-5 \bsing the Scan Functions Note To specify a location where the scanned i\fages are saved: \fnce scanning is co\Implete, a folder is automatically displayed to which the scanned \Iimages are saved. By default, a folder bearing the scanning date is created inside the [My Pictures] folder in [My Documents]. (\fn Windows Vista/Windows 7, the folder is created in the [Pictures] folder.) 8-2 Maintenance Cleaning the Exterior Clean the exterior of the machine and ventilation slots. 1 Turn OFF the power switch \fnd disconnect the power cord. 2 Cle\fn the exterior of the m\fchine \Fwith \f soft, well wrung out cloth d\fmpe\Fned with w\f ter or mild detergent diluted with w\fter. 3 W\fit for the m\fchine to dry completely before rec onnecting the power cord, \fnd then turn ON the power. 8-3 Maintenance Cleaning the Platen Glass Follow this procedure to clean the platen glass and under surface of the feeder . 1 Turn OFF the power switch \fnd disconnect the power cord. 2 Open the feeder. 3 Cle\fn the pl\ften gl\fss \fnd the unde\Fr surf\fce of the feeder . (1) Clean the areas with a cloth da\Impened with water . (2) Wipe the areas with a sof t, dry cloth. 4 Close the feeder. 5 Connect the power cord \fnd turn ON the power switch. Cleaning the Feeder If your document has \flack streaks or appear dirty after it has \feen scanned from the feeder , the roller inside the feeder may \fe dirt y. Clean the feeder scanning area and rollers . 1 Turn OFF the power switch \fnd disconnect the power cord. 2 Open the feeder cover. 3 Cle\fn the rollers (A) inside the feeder with \f well wrung out cloth d\fmpe\Fned with w\f ter \fnd wipe them with \f soft, dry cloth. (A) 4 Close the feeder cover. 5 Connect the power cord \fnd turn ON the power switch. Precautions to take when you get toner onto your hands or into clothing If toner gets on your hands or clothi\Ing, wash them immediately with cold water. The toner sets onto hands or into clothing if you try to wash it with warm water. \fnce it is set, y\Iou can hardly remove the toner stains.

IMPORT\bNT Handling toner cartridges • Keep the toner cartridge away from computer screens, disk drives, and floppy disks. They may be damaged by magnet which is in inside\I of the toner cartridge. • Avoid locations subjec\I t to high temperature, high humidity, or rapid changes in t\Iemperature. • Do not expose the t\Ioner car tridge to direct sunlight or bright light for more than five minutes. • Store the t oner cartridge in its protective bag. Do not open the bag until you are ready to install the toner cartridge in the machine. • Keep the prot ective bag for the toner cartridge. They are required when transporting the machine. • Do not stor e the toner cartridge in a salty atmosphere or where there are corrosive gases such as fr\Iom aerosol sprays. • Do not remo ve the toner cartridge from the machine unnecessarily. • Print qualit y may deteriorate if the drum surface is exposed to light or is damaged\I. • Always hold the toner car tridge by its handle to avoid touching the drum. • Do not place the toner car tridge in an upright or an upside \I down position. If the toner is kept upright or upside down, the toner will solidify a\Ind may not return to its original condition even if it is shaken. • When disposing of \Ia used toner cartr idge, place the toner container into its protective bag to prevent the toner from scattering, and then dispose\I of the toner cartridge according to local regulations. Be careful of counterfeit toner cartridges. Please be aware that there are counterfeit Canon toner cartridges in the marketplace. Use of counterfeit toner cartridge may result in poor print quality or machine performance. When re\foving a toner cartridge Make sure to remove it carefully. If not removed with care, the toner powder may scatter and come in con\Itact with your eyes and mouth. If toner gets into your eyes or mouth, wash them immediat\Iely with cold water and consult a physician. Keep the toner cartridge away fro\f s\fall children. If the toner or other parts are ingested, consult a physician immediately. Do not disasse\fble \Rthe toner cartridge. The toner may scatter and get into your eyes or mouth. If toner gets into your eyes or mouth, wash \Ithem immediately with cold water and consult a ph\Iysician. W\bRNING Do not place the toner cartridge in fire. This may cause toner remaining inside th\Ie cartridge to ignite and result in burns.
