    You can change the copy settings temporarily 
    for the next copy. 
    These settings are temporary, and the 
    machine returns to its default settings 
    1 minute after copying.
    If you have finished choosing settings, press 
    Black Start or Color Start .
    If you want to choose more settings, 
    press aor b.
    Note
    You can save some of the settings that 
    you use most often by setting them as 
    default. These settings will stay until you 
    change them again. (See  Setting your 
    changes as the new default  on page 35.)
     
    Changing copy quality4
    You can choose the copy quality. The factory 
    setting is Normal.
    aLoad your document.
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress a or  b to choose  Quality.
    dPress d or  c to choose  Fast, Normal  or 
    Best .
    Press  OK.
    eIf you do not want to change additional 
    settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start .
    Fast Fast copy speed and lowest 
    amount of ink used. Use this 
    setting to save time (documents to 
    be proof read, large documents or 
    many copies).
    Even if you set this option the copy 
    speed will be slower with 
    Ink Save Mode , Book Copy  or 
    Watermark Copy  turned on.
    Normal Recommended setting for ordinary 
    printouts. Good copy quality with 
    adequate copy speed.
    Best Use this setting to copy precise 
    images such as photographs. The 
    highest resolution and slowest

    Enlarging or reducing the 
    image copied4
    You can choose an enlargement or reduction 
    ratio.If you choose  Fit to Page, your 
    machine will adjust the size automatically to 
    the paper size you set.
    aLoad your document.
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress  a or  b to choose 
    Enlarge/Reduce .
    dPress d or  c to choose  100%, Enlarge , 
    Reduce , Fit to Page , 
    Custom(25-400%) .
    eDo one of the following:
    „ If you choose  Enlarge or Reduce  
    press  OK and press  d or  c to choose 
    the enlargement or reduction ratio 
    you want. Press  OK and go to 
    step f.
    „ If you choose  Custom(25-400%) , 
    press  OK. Press  + or  - to enter an 
    enlargement or reduction ratio from 
    25%  to 400% . Press  OK and go to 
    step f.
    „ If you choose  100% or 
    Fit to Page , press OK. Go to 
    step f.
    fIf you do not want to change additional 
    settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start .
    Note
    •Page Layout  is not available with 
    Enlarge/Reduce .
    • Page Layout , Book Copy  and 
    Watermark Copy  are not available with 
    Fit to Page .
    • Fit to Page  does not work properly if 
    the document on the scanner glass is 
    skewed by more than 3 degrees. Using 
    the document guidelines on the left and 
    top, place your document in the upper left 
    hand corner, with the document face down 
    on the scanner glass.
    • Fit to Page  is not available for a Legal 
    size document.
     
    Making N in 1 copies or a 
    poster (Page Layout)4
    The N in 1 copy feature can help you save 
    paper by letting you copy two or four pages 
    onto one printed page.
    You can also make a poster. When you use 
    the poster feature your machine divides your 
    document into sections, then enlarges the 
    sections so you can assemble them into a 
    poster.
    IMPORTANT
    • Make sure the paper size is set to  Letter 
    or  A4 .
    • You cannot use the  Enlarge/Reduce 
    setting with the N in 1 and Poster features.
    • If you are producing multiple color copies,  N in 1 copy is not available.
    • (P)  means Portrait and  (L) means 
    Landscape.
    • You can only make one poster copy at a  time.

    Watermark Copy , Book Copy , 
    Ink Save Mode  and Enlarge/Reduce  
    are not available with  Page Layout.
     
    aLoad your document.
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress a or  b to choose  Page Layout .
    dPress d or  c to choose  Off(1 in 1) , 
    2in1(P) , 2in1(L) , 
    4in1(P) , 4in1(L)  or 
    Poster(3 x 3) .
    Press  OK.
    eIf you do not want to change additional 
    settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start  to scan the page.
    If you are making a poster the machine 
    scans the pages and starts printing. 
    Go to step f.
    fAfter the machine scans the page, press 
    + ( Yes ) to scan the next page.
    gPlace the next page on the scanner 
    glass.
    Press  OK.
    Repeat steps f and  g for each page of 
    the layout.
    hAfter all the pages have been scanned, 
    press  - ( No ) to finish. Place your document face down in the 
    direction shown below.

    „2 in 1 (L)

    „Poster (3 x 3)
    You can make a poster size copy of a 
    photograph.
     
    Note
    If photo paper has been chosen in the 
    Paper Type setting for N in 1 copies, the 
    machine will print the images as if Plain

    Adjusting Brightness and

    Brightness4
    You can adjust the copy brightness to make 
    copies darker or lighter.
    aLoad your document.
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress  a or  b to choose  Brightness .
    dPress d to make a darker copy or press 
    c  to make a lighter copy.
    Press  OK.
    eIf you do not want to change additional 
    settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start .
    Contrast4
    You can adjust the copy contrast to help an 
    image look sharper and more vivid.
    aLoad your document.
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress a or  b to choose  Contrast.
    dPress c to increase the contrast or press 
    d  to decrease the contrast.
    Press  OK.
    eIf you do not want to change additional 
    settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start .
    Ink Save Mode4
    Ink Save Mode can help you save some ink. 
    Your machine detects the edges of the image 
    and prints the outline of the image.
    The amount of ink saved will vary depending 
    on the document. Ink Save Mode

    aLoad your document. 
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress aor b to choose 
    Ink Save Mode .
    dPress dor c to choose  On (or  Off ).
    Press  OK.
    eIf you do not want to change any 
    additional settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start .
    Note
    •Watermark Copy , Book Copy  and 
    Page Layout  are not available with 
    Ink Save Mode .
    • Ink Save Mode  may make your 
    printouts look different from your original

    Paper Type4
    If you are copying on special paper, set the 
    machine for the type of paper you are using to 
    get the best print quality.
    aLoad your document.
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress a or  b to choose  Paper Type .
    dPress d or  c to choose  Plain Paper , 
    Inkjet Paper , Brother BP71 , 
    Other Glossy  or Transparency .
    Press  OK.
    eIf you do not want to change additional 
    settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start .
    Paper Size4
    If copying on paper other than Letter size, you 
    will need to change the paper size setting.
    You can copy only on Letter, Legal, A4, A5 or 
    Photo 4×6in. (10 ×15 cm) paper.
    aLoad your document. 
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress  a or  b to choose  Paper Size .
    dPress d or  c to choose  Letter, Legal , 
    A4 , A5  or  4x6 .
    Press  OK.
    eIf you do not want to change additional 
    settings, press  Black Start or 
    Color Start .
    Book Copy4
    Book copy corrects dark borders and skew. 
    Your machine can correct the data 
    automatically or you can make specific 
    corrections.
    aLoad your document.
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress aor b to choose  Book Copy .
    dDo one of the following:
    „ If you want to correct the data 
    yourself, press  dor c to choose 
    On(Preview) .
    Press  OK.
    Press  Black Start  or Color Start  
    and go to step e.
    „ If you want the machine to correct 
    the data automatically, press  dor c 
    to choose  On and press  OK. 
    Go to step f.
    eAdjust the skewed data by using  dor c.
    Remove the shadows by using  aor b.
    fIf you are finished making corrections, 
    press  Black Start  or Color Start .
    Note
    Page Layout , Ink Save Mode , 
    Fit to Page  and Watermark Copy

    You can place a logo or text into your 
    document as a Watermark. You can select 
    one of the template watermarks 
    ( CONFIDENTIAL , DRAFT  or COPY ), data from 
    your media cards or USB Flash memory 
    drive, or scanned data.
    Note
    Fit to Page , Page Layout , 
    Ink Save Mode  and Book Copy  are 
    not available with  Watermark Copy .
     
    Using a template4
    aLoad your document. 
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress aor b to choose 
    Watermark Copy .
    Press  OK.
    dPress  dor c to choose  On.
    ePress  aor b to choose 
    Current Setting . 
    Press  OK.
    fPress  aor b to choose  Template.
    Press  OK.
    gIf you want to change any of the 
    displayed settings, press  aor b to 
    choose the setting, and then press 
    d or c to choose the option you want.
    hWhen you are finished changing 
    settings, press  aor b to choose  Apply.
    Press  OK.
    iPress  Black Start  or Color Start .
    Using data from a media card or USB 
    Flash memory drive

    aLoad your document. 
    bEnter the number of copies you want.
    cPress aor b to choose 
    Watermark Copy .
    Press  OK.
    dPress  dor c to choose  On.
    ePress  aor b to choose 
    Current Setting . 
    Press  OK.
    fPress  aor b to choose  Media. Insert a 
    media card or USB Flash memory drive.
    Press  OK.
    gPress  dor c to choose the data you 
    want to use for the watermark.
    Press  OK.
    hIf you want to change any of the 
    displayed settings, press  aor b to 
    choose the setting, and then press 
    d or c to choose the option you want.
    iWhen you are finished changing 
    settings, press  aor b to choose  Apply.
    Press  OK.
    jPress  Black Start  or Color Start .
    IMPORTANT
    DO NOT take out the memory card or 
    USB Flash memory drive while 
    Photo Capture  is blinking to avoid 
    damaging the card, USB Flash memory

    Using a scanned paper document as 
    your watermark

    aEnter the number of copies you want.
    bPress aor b to choose 
    Watermark Copy .
    Press  OK.
    cPress  dor c to choose  On.
    dPress  aor b to choose 
    Current Setting .
    Press  OK.
    ePress  aor b to choose  Scan. Press  OK. 
    Then set the page that you want to use 
    as a watermark on the scanner glass.
    fPress  Black Start  or Color Start .
    gTake out the watermark document you 
    scanned and load the document you 
    want to copy.
    hPress dor c to change the 
    Transparency  of the watermark. 
    Press  OK.
    iPress  Black Start  or Color Start .
    Note
    You cannot enlarge or reduce the 
    scanned watermark.
     
    Setting your changes as the 
    new default4
    You can save the copy settings for  Quality, 
    Enlarge/Reduce , Brightness , 
    Contrast , Ink Save Mode  and 
    Page Layout  that you use most often by 
    setting them as the default settings. These 
    settings will stay until you change them again.
    aPress  a or  b to choose your new setting.
    Press  OK.
    Repeat this step for each setting you 
    want to change.
    bAfter changing the last setting, press 
    a or b to choose  Set New Default .
    Press  OK.
    cPress  + to choose  Yes.
    dPress  Stop/Exit .
    Restoring all settings to the 
    factory settings4
    You can restore all the settings you have 
    changed back to the factory settings. These 
    settings will stay until you change them again.
    aPress a or  b to choose 
    Factory Reset .
    Press  OK.
    bPress  + to choose  Yes.
