NFC What
is
NFC?
The NFC feature might not be available, depending on your service provider, your administratorhs
settings, and your BlackBerry device model.
NFC is a short-range wireless technology that is designed to let you easily share content and information
without having to pair your device to another NFC-enabled device. Depending on your wireless service
provider and the applications you have installed on your device, there are many interesting things you
can do using NFC, including:
t Exchange contact cards with a new friend or business acquaintance.
t Pass a picture to your friend.
t Grab a coupon from a poster you see on the street.
t Send a webpage youhre viewing to a friend.
t Add a friend to your BBM contacts.
t Copy smart tag information to an NFC tag.
t Connect to an NFC enabled printer to print or scan a file.
Some NFC apps are designed to simulate a physical card, such as a credit card, a public transit pass, or
an access badge. If the app is open on your device, just tap the back of your device to the NFC reader and go. A few examples of what you can do using NFC apps include:
t Pay for your morning coffee without taking out your wallet.
t Pay for your bus or subway ride.
t Gain access to your building when you get to work.
These example are just a few of the things you can do with NFC. NFC can be used in many ways
depending on the applications you have installed on your device and the NFC compatibility of other

establishes a Wi-Fi Direct or Bluetooth connection with the other NFC-enabled device to transfer files.
1. On your BlackBerry device do any of the following:
t To send a single file, find and open a file.
t To send multiple files, find and highlight the files that you want to send. Tap

2. Align the back of your BlackBerry device with an NFC-enabled device.
3. If necessary, tap  Send.
Tip:
 After your device starts to send the file, move your device away from the other NFC-enabled device
so you donht accidentally send the file more than once.

Transactions  section of the  NFC screen donht apply to NFC file transfers or the smart tag feature.
You can set up your device to run some NFC apps when your device is locked and the backlight is
turned off, or when the power is turned off. In the NFC settings, the  When

option applies to NFC apps that simulate physical card transactions, (for example, credit card payments
or security badges that allow access to secure buildings), and NFC transactions handled by your SIM

USB
connections Access
the
files

media
card

an

deviceTo use the USB Mass Storage Mode feature, you must have a media card in your BlackBerry device.
USB Mass Storage Mode is designed to let you use your device as a USB drive. Using a USB cable, you
can connect your device to a computer, car stereo, or other external device, and access the files on your
media card. When you turn on USB Mass Storage Mode and connect your device to a computer using a
USB cable, your device appears on your computer as a removable storage device.
Note:
 When USB Mass Storage Mode is on and your device is connected to an external device using a
USB cable, apps on your device canht access the files on your media card.

IP
address
for

Mobile
hotspot
When you use Mobile Hotspot mode, your BlackBerry device becomes a wireless access point that
other Wi-Fi enabled devices can connect to and access the Internet using your mobile network
connection. Up to ten devices can connect to your mobile hotspot at one time, depending on your
device model.
Mobile Hotspot mode requires the use of the mobile network. When you turn on Mobile Hotspot mode, if
your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, your device turns off the Wi-Fi connection. You might incur
more data charges while sharing your network connection using Mobile Hotspot mode.
Mobile Hotspot mode can use a lot of battery power. For the best performance, plug your device into a
battery charger when you use Mobile Hotspot mode.
