    You should regularly create and save a device backup file on your computer, especially before you
    update any device software. Maintaining a current backup file on your computer might allow you to
    recover device data if your BlackBerry device is lost, stolen, or corrupted.
    Note: If you have pictures, videos, and other data saved to your device storage space, save it to your
    media card or create a device backup file on your computer to make sure that you donht lose the data.

    Turnonautomaticupdatesforyourdevicesoftware
    When a software update for your BlackBerry device is available and your device is connected to a Wi-Fi
    network, software updates are automatically downloaded and installed on your device. When this feature is turned on, you arenht notified when an update starts installing, but you may be asked to restart your
    device to complete the installation.
    1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
    2. Tap

    4. Turn on the  AutomaticallyDownloadandInstallSoftwareUpdates  switch.

    If you restore your BlackBerry 10 device to its default settings, BlackBerry Link deletes all of the data
    and third-party applications from your device. Any IT policies that are applied to your device are also deleted. After you restore your device to its default settings, you can run the setup application on your
    device to set up the device again.
    Before you begin, you should back up your data so that you have a copy of the data on your computer.
    CAUTION: You canht stop the process of restoring your device to its default settings after it starts. If you
    reset your device, the process continues after the device restarts.
    1. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
    2. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
    3. At the side of the BlackBerry Link window, click your device.
    4. Do one of the following:
    t On a Windows computer, click  BackUp&Restore. Click FactoryReset .
    t On a Mac computer, click  BlackBerryLink >Preferences . Click Reload > Reload .

    Putyourdeviceinstandbymode
    When you put your BlackBerry device in standby mode, the device screen backlight turns off and the screen locks. Wireless connections and clock alarms arenht affected.
    Press the  Power/Lock  key on the top of your device.
    To wake up your device, swipe up from the bottom of the device screen.
    Restartorresetyourdevice
    If your BlackBerry device is running slower than usual or not responding, turning off and turning back on
    your device might help to solve the problem.
    Do one of the following:
    t To restart your device, press and hold the  Power/Lock key on the top of your device. Tap 
    .
    t To reset your device, press and hold the  Power/Lock key for ten seconds.
    Chargeyourdevice Before you start using your BlackBerry device, you should charge it because the battery that came with
    your device isnht fully charged.
    Charge your device using the charger provided by BlackBerry in the box that your device came in. You
    can also charge your device using a USB cable connected to a computer, but charging might take
    longer.
    CAUTION: Other chargers might not provide adequate power and might damage your device.
    Hold the cable with the BlackBerry logo (
    ) facing the front of the device, and connect the cable into
    the USB port on your device. Plug the charger into a power outlet.

    Keepingyourbatterycharged
    Your BlackBerry device uses a lithium-ion battery. To maximize your use of this type of battery, when possible, do the following:
    t Avoid using your device while iths charging to help it charge faster.
    t Charge your device often, even when the battery charge isnht low.
    t Avoid charging, using, or storing your device in extremely hot or cold places, such as on a vehicle dashboard.
    t Avoid leaving your device turned off with a low battery power level for an extended period of time.
    t If your device has a removable battery and you arenht using your device for more than a few days, partially charge the battery. You can then remove the battery and store it in a dry place at roomtemperature to conserve battery power.

    You can check how much battery time and power you have remaining, how much device memory isbeing used, and how much storage space is available. You can also monitor which apps and services
    are using the most battery power, device memory, storage space, or CPU resources, and you can close or delete some apps to help save battery power or improve the device performance.
    1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
    2. Tap

    3. To monitor different types of device statistics, tap

    4. Tap a type of statistics.
    Tip: On the Battery and CPU screens, you can view device and usage statistics from different time
    frames. To change the time frame for the statistics on the Battery or CPU screens, at the top of the

    If you notice that an open app is using a lot of battery power, device memory, or CPU resources, you can
    close it and end all processes associated with the app. You can also delete some apps permanently
    from the Device Monitor screen. Some apps must be installed and open at all times, so they canht be
    closed or deleted.

    A solid red LED can indicate that your BlackBerry device is turning on or restarting.
     
     
    A flashing yellow LED can indicate that the battery power level is low and your device is charging.
     
     
    A solid green LED can indicate that your device is plugged into a charger and that charging is complete.

    							UsingBatterySavingModeIf your battery power level is draining, you can set up Battery Saving Mode to turn on automatically andhelp make your battery last longer when you need it most! When Battery Saving Mode is turned on, your device automatically adjusts various settings to help save battery power. If you need to save more
    battery power, you can also adjust additional settings. For example, you can choose to turn off data
    services or location services to save more battery power.
    By default, Battery Saving Mode turns on automatically when your battery power level is 20% or lower.
    You can also turn on Battery Saving Mode manually at any time.
    ChangeyourBatterySavingModesettings You can change when Battery Saving Mode turns on automatically, and choose some of the settings that
    are adjusted when Battery Saving Mode turns on.
    1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
    2. Tap 
     Settings  > 
    BatterySavingMode .
    3. Do any of the following:
    t To set the power level that your battery must reach before Battery Saving Mode turns on automatically, drag the slider at the top of the screen left or right.
    t To change which settings are adjusted when Battery Saving Mode turns on, select or clear any of the checkboxes.
    t To stop Battery Saving Mode from turning on automatically, turn off the  TurnonBatterySaving
    ModeAutomatically  switch.
    TurnoffBatterySavingMode
    After Battery Saving Mode turns on automatically, Battery Saving Mode is automatically turned off when
    you start charging your device. You can also turn off Battery Saving Mode manually.
    1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
    2. Tap 
     Settings  > BatterySavingMode .
    3. Turn off the  BatterySavingMode  switch.

    Battery life varies depending on how you use your BlackBerry device. To help battery power last longer,
    here are some considerations:

    Prolong battery life by changing your device settings to dim the screen.

    Decreasevolume
    Do any of the following:
    t To decrease the device volume, use the volume keys on the right side of your device.
    t To adjust other volume settings such as application volume or notifications, on the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. Tap 
     Settings  > MainVolume  or Notifications .
    Closeapps
    Increase how long a single charge lasts by closing any apps or features that you finished using so that they arenht continuously running in the background. Some features consume more battery power than others. Close or turn off these apps and features when you donht use them: The camera (if your device is
    equipped with a camera), the BlackBerry Browser, GPS, and Bluetooth technology.
    Turnoffconnections
    If your device is out of a wireless coverage area, you can turn off the connection so that your device
    doesnht search for a network signal continuously. You can also help extend battery life by deleting saved
    Wi-Fi networks that you no longer use.
    Do any of the following:
    t To turn off a connection, on the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. Tap 
    Settings  > NetworksandConnections .
    t To delete a saved Wi-Fi network, on the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. Tap
    Settings  > NetworksandConnections  > Wi-Fi  > . Tap and hold the network that you want
    to delete. Tap

    Updateyoursoftware
    You can often gain a boost in power savings by using the latest version of the BlackBerry 10 OS. If a
    software update is available for your device, a notification appears in the BlackBerry Hub.
