LIGHTING SYSTEM 8-19 EAS27260 TROUBLESHOOTING Any of the following fail to light: headlight (high beam), headlight (low beam), high beam indicator light, taillight, license plate light, auxiliary light or meter light. NOTE: •Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s): 1. Rider seat 2. Fuel tank 3. Side cowlings 4. Rear cowling 5. Front cowling NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ 1. Check the condition of each bulb and bulb socket. Refer to “CHECKING THE BULBS AND BULB SOCKETS” on page 8-84.Replace the bulb(s) and bulb socket(s). 2. Check the fuses. (Main and headlight) Refer to “CHECKING THE FUS- ES” on page 8-85.Replace the fuse(s). 3. Check the battery. Refer to “CHECKING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY” on page 8-86.•Clean the battery terminals. •Recharge or replace the battery. 4. Check the main switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the main switch. 5. Check the dimmer switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the left handlebar switch. 6. Check the headlight relay (on/off). Refer to “CHECKING THE RE- LAYS” on page 8-89.Replace the headlight relay (on/off). 7. Check the headlight relay (dimmer). Refer to “CHECKING THE RE- LAYS” on page 8-89.Replace the headlight relay (dimmer).
LIGHTING SYSTEM 8-20 NG → OK ↓ 8. Check the entire lighting system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-17.Properly connect or repair the lighting sys- tem’s wiring. This circuit is OK.

SIGNALING SYSTEM 8-23 EAS27290 TROUBLESHOOTING •Any of the following fail to light: turn signal light, brake light or indicator light. •The horn fails to sound. NOTE: •Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s): 1. Rider seat 2. Fuel tank 3. Side cowlings 4. Bottom cowlings 5. Rear cowling NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ Checking the signaling system The horn fails to sound. NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ 1. Check the fuses. (Main, ignition and signaling sys- tem) Refer to “CHECKING THE FUS- ES” on page 8-85.Replace the fuse(s). 2. Check the battery. Refer to “CHECKING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY” on page 8-86.•Clean the battery terminals. •Recharge or replace the battery. 3. Check the main switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the main switch. 4. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. Check the condition of each of the sig- naling system’s circuits. Refer to “Checking the signaling system”.1. Check the horn switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the left handlebar switch. 2. Check the horn. SIGNALING SYSTEM 8-24 NG → OK ↓ The brake light fails to come on. NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ The turn signal light, turn signal indicator light or both fail to blink. NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ 3. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. This circuit is OK. 1. Check the front brake light switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the front brake light switch. 2. Check the rear brake light switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the rear brake light switch. 3. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. This circuit is OK. 1. Check the turn signal light bulbs and sockets. Refer to “CHECKING THE BULBS AND BULB SOCKETS” on page 8-84.Replace the turn signal light bulb(s), sock- et(s) or both. 2. Check the turn signal switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the left handlebar switch. 3. Check the turn signal relay. Refer to “CHECKING THE TURN SIGNAL RELAY” on page 8-90.Replace the turn signal relay.
SIGNALING SYSTEM 8-25 NG → OK ↓ The neutral indicator light fails to come on. NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ The oil level warning light fails to come on. NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ The fuel level warning light fails to come on. NG → OK ↓ 4. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. This circuit is OK. 1. Check the neutral switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE SWITCHES” on page 8-81.Replace the neutral switch. 2. Check the relay unit (diode). Refer to “CHECKING THE RELAY UNIT (DIODE)” on page 8-91.Replace the relay unit. 3. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. This circuit is OK. 1. Check the oil level switch. Refer to “CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL SWITCH” on page 8-95.Replace the oil level switch. 2. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. This circuit is OK. 1. Check the fuel sender. Refer to “CHECKING THE FUEL SENDER” on page 8-95.Replace the fuel pump assembly.
SIGNALING SYSTEM 8-26 NG → OK ↓ The coolant temperature warning light fails to come on. NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ The speedometer fails to operate. NG → OK ↓ NG → OK ↓ The shift timing indicator light fails to come on. NG → OK ↓ 2. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. This circuit is OK. 1. Check the coolant temperature sen- sor. Refer to “CHECKING THE COOL- ANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR” on page 8-97.Replace the coolant temperature sensor. 2. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. This circuit is OK. 1. Check the speed sensor. Refer to “CHECKING THE SPEED SENSOR” on page 8-96.Replace the speed sensor. 2. Check the entire signaling system’s wiring. Refer to “CIRCUIT DIAGRAM” on page 8-21.Properly connect or repair the signaling system’s wiring. Replace the meter assembly. 1. Check that the shift timing indicator light is set to come on and that the brightness level of the light is ad- justed properly. Refer to “FEATURES” on page 1-2.Replace the meter assembly.
