    Playing audio and video files with 
    the Windows Media Player
    The Windows Media Player can play several types of audio and video files, 
    including WAV, MIDI, MP3, AU, AVI, and MPEG formats. For more information 
    about using the Windows Media Player, tap 
    Help.
    To play a file using the Windows Media Player:
    1Ta p  Start, All Programs, then tap Windows Media Player. The 
    Windows Media Player opens.

    2Ta p  File, then tap Open. The Open dialog box opens.
    3Tap the file you want to play, then tap Open.
    4Play the file by tapping (play), then stop playing the file by 
    tapping (stop).
    ImportantIf the menu bar does not appear, tap the show menu 
    bar button.

    Using the optional diskette drive
    The diskette drive uses 3.5-inch diskettes (sometimes called floppy disks). 
    Diskettes are useful for storing files or transferring files to another computer.
    To use a diskette:
    1Plug the diskette drive into a USB port on the tablet PC or FlexDock. For 
    the location of your USB ports, see “Ports side” on page 7, “Front” on 
    page 228, and “Back” on page 229.
    2Insert the diskette into the diskette drive with the label facing up.
    WarningDo not expose diskettes to water or magnetic fields. 
    Exposure could damage the data on the diskette.
    ImportantIf you need to use a diskette drive, Gateway recommends 
    purchasing a USB diskette drive. To order a USB diskette 
    drive, visit the Accessory Store at 
    accessories.gateway.com

    3To access a file on the diskette, tap Start, then tap My Computer. Double-tap 
    the drive letter (for example, the A: drive), then double-tap the file name.
    4To remove the diskette, make sure that the diskette activity indicator is 
    off, then press the diskette eject button.
    Using the optional DVD/CD-RW 
    drive
    You can use your tablet PC to enjoy a wide variety of multimedia features. Use 
    the optional combination DVD/CD-RW drive for installing programs, playing 
    audio CDs, playing DVDs, accessing data, and recording music and data to CD-R 
    or CD-RW discs. You cannot use this drive to create DVDs.
    Connecting the DVD/CD-RW drive
    Everything you need to read from or write to a CD and to read from a DVD 
    is included in this package:
    ■DVD/CD-RW drive with IEEE 1394 cable
    ■AC power adapter and power cord
    ■Installation card
    ■Software CDs:
    ■Ahead Software’s Nero Burning ROM™
    ■CyberLink® PowerDVD™
    ImportantIf you need to use a CD or DVD drive, Gateway 
    recommends purchasing the combination DVD/CD-RW

    To connect the DVD/CD-RW drive:
    1Connect the AC adapter to your drive’s power connector.
    2Connect the IEEE 1394 cable from the drive to the jack on the tablet PC 
    or FlexDock.

    Inserting a CD or DVD
    To insert a CD or DVD:
    1Press the eject button on the combination DVD/CD-RW drive. After the 
    tray opens slightly, pull the disc tray completely open.
    2Place the disc in the tray with the label facing up, then press down carefully 
    on the disc until it snaps into place.
    3Push the tray in until it is closed.
    ImportantSome music CDs have copy protection software. You may 
    not be able to play these CDs on your tablet PC.
    ImportantWhen you place a single-sided disc in the tray, make sure 
    that the label side is facing up. If the disc has two playable 
    sides, place the disc so the name of the side you want to 
    play is facing up.

    Listening to CDs
    You can use the combination DVD/CD-RW drive on your tablet PC to listen 
    to music CDs. Use the Windows Media Player to listen to CDs. For more 
    information about the using the Windows Media Player, tap 
    Help.
    To play a CD using Windows Media Player:
    1Insert a CD into the combination DVD/CD-RW drive.
    2If a dialog box opens with a list of CD players, tap Windows Media Player. 
    The Windows Media Player opens.

    If a dialog box does not open with a list of CD players, tap 
    Start, 
    All Programs, then tap Windows Media Player. The Windows Media Player 
    opens.
    ImportantSome music CDs have copy protection software. You may 
    not be able to play these CDs on your tablet PC.

    3When the media player opens, tap (play).
    If you do not hear sound or you want to change the volume, see “Adjusting 
    the volume” on page 86.

    Playing a DVD
    A Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) is similar to a standard CD but has greater data 
    capacity. Because of this increased capacity, full-length movies, several albums 
    of music, or several gigabytes of data can fit on a single disc. If your tablet PC 
    has a combination DVD/CD-RW drive, you can play DVDs with InterVideo 
    WinDVD. For more information about playing DVDs, tap 
    Help in WinDVD.
    To play a DVD:
    1Make sure that the speakers are turned on or headphones are plugged in 
    and that the volume is turned up.
    2Turn off your screen saver and standby timers.
    3To play a DVD using InterVideo WinDVD, tap Start, All Programs, InterVideo 
    WinDVD
    , then tap InterVideo WinDVD.
    4Insert a DVD into the DVD drive, then tap (play). The DVD plays. To  
    specifically control the DVD or adjust the volume, use the controls in the 
    DVD player. For more information on using the DVD player, see its online 
    help.
    ImportantIf InterVideo WinDVD is not on your Start menu, you will 
    need to install it. To install InterVideo WinDVD, insert the 
    InterVideo DVD Software disc into your DVD/CD-RW drive 
    and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Creating CDs
    You can use your combination DVD/CD-RW drive to create data CDs, music 
    CDs, or copies of CDs.
    Creating data CDs
    Use Nero Express to create data CDs. Data CDs are ideal for backing up 
    important files such as tax records, letters, MP3s, digital movies, or photos. For 
    information on creating music CDs, see “Creating music CDs” on page 104.
    ImportantIf Nero Express is not on your Start menu, you will need 
    to install the Nero Express program. To install the Nero 
    Express program, insert the Nero Express disc into your 
    DVD/CD-RW drive and follow the on-screen instructions.
    ImportantFor more information about using Ahead Software’s Nero 
    Express, see the online documentation. Tap Start, All 
    Programs, Ahead Nero, User’s Guides, then tap Nero 
    Express.
    ImportantWe recommend that you do not use your tablet PC for 
    other tasks while creating CDs.
    ImportantIf you record copyrighted material on a CD, you need 
    permission from the copyright owner. Otherwise, you may 
    be violating copyright law and be subject to payment of 
    damages and other remedies. If you are uncertain about 
    your rights, contact your legal advisor.
