3. Push the side button and open the front cover. 4. Open the belt unit. 5. Clean the CTD sensor inside the printer with a clean dry cotton swab. 6. Close the belt unit by pushing it up. 7. Close the front cover.
8. Insert the standard 250 - sheet tray into the printer, and push until it stops. Adjusting Color Registration To adjust the color registration after moving it to a new location, follow the procedure below. Printing the Color Registration Chart When Using the Operator Panel 1. Press Menu button. 2. Press button until Admin Menu appears, and then press (Set) button. 3. Press button until Maintenance appears, and then press (Set) button. 4. Press button until Color Reg Adj appears, and then press (Set) button. 5. Press button until ColorRegi Chart appears, and then press (Set) button. The color registration chart is printed. When Using the Tool Box 1. Click start ® All Programs ® Dell Printers ® Dell 2130cn Color Laser Printer ® Tool Box . The Select Printer dialog box opens. 2. Click the name of this printer listed in Printer Name , and then click OK . The Tool Box opens. 3. Click the Printer Maintenance tab. 4. Select Registration Adjustment from the list at the left side of the page. The Registration Adjustment page is displayed. 5. Click the Start button next to Color Regi Chart . The color registration chart is printed. Determining Values On the color registration chart, there are two types of charts: Chart 1 (fast scan) and Chart 2 (slow scan). The Chart 1 is used to adjust the color registration for the fast scan direction, which is vertical to paper feed direction. The Chart 2 is used to adjust the color registration for the slow scan direction, which is horizontal to paper feed direction. CAUTION: Do not use excessive force on the tray. Doing so could damage the tray or the inside of the printer.
The following explains how to determine the adjustment values for the fast scan and the slow scan using Chart 1 and Chart 2. Fast Scan On the Chart 1 of the color registration chart, find the straightest lines where the two black lines and the colored line are most closely aligned for each color ( Y , M , and C ). If you find the straightest line, make a note of the value ( - 9 - +9 ) indicated by the straightest line for each color. When the value is 0 for each color, you do not need to adjust the color registration for the fast scan. When the value is not 0 , enter the value using the procedure in Entering Values . Slow Scan On the Chart 2 of the color registration chart, find the medium line within the range of white area for each color pattern ( Y , M , and C ). If you find the medium line, make a note of the value ( - 9 - +9 ) indicated by the medium line for each color. When the value is 0 for each color, you do not need to adjust the color registration for the slow scan. When the value is not 0 , enter the value using the procedure in Entering Values .
Entering Values When Using the Operator Panel Using the operator panel, enter the values that you found in the color registration chart to make adjustments. 1. Press Menu button. 2. Press button until Admin Menu appears, and then press (Set) button. 3. Press button until Maintenance appears, and then press (Set) button. 4. Press button until Color Reg Adj appears, and then press (Set) button. 5. Press button until Enter Number appears, and then press (Set) button. 6. Press button until Fast Scan appears, and then press (Set) button. The cursor is located at the first digit of the Fast Scan . 7. Press or button until you reach the value (for example, +3) displayed on the chart. 8. Press button once and move the cursor to the next value. 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to enter all of the digits of the Fast Scan , and then press (Set) button. 10. Press button until Slow Scan appears, and then press (Set) button. The cursor is located at the first digit of the Slow Scan .
11. Press or button until you reach the value (for example, +3) displayed on the chart. 12. Press button once and move the cursor to the next value. 13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 to enter all of the digits of the Slow Scan , and then press (Set) button. 14. Press Cancel button. 15. Press button until ColorRegi Chart appears, and then press (Set) button. The color registration chart is printed with the new values. 16. Press (Set) button. 17. Adjust till all straight lines are at the value of 0. Viewing the images before and after will help. When Using the Tool Box Using the Tool Box, enter the values that you found in the color registration chart to make adjustments. 1. Click start ® All Programs ® Dell Printers ® Dell 2130cn Color Laser Printer ® Tool Box . The Select Printer dialog box opens. 2. Click the name of this printer listed in Printer Name , and then click OK . The Tool Box opens. 3. Click the Printer Maintenance tab. 4. Select Registration Adjustment from the list at the left side of the page. The Registration Adjustment page is displayed. 5. Select the value with the straight line, and then click the Apply New Settings button. 6. Click the Start button next to Color Regi Chart . The color registration chart is printed with the new values. 7. Adjust till all straight lines are at the value of 0. Show image of before and after adjustment will help. Back to Contents Page NOTICE: After printing the color registration chart, do not turn off the printer until the printer motor has stopped running. NOTE: If 0 is not next to the straightest lines, determine the values and adjust the printer again.
Back to Contents Page Removing Options Removing the Optional 250 - Sheet Feeder Removing a Duplexer Removing a Memory Removing the Network Protocol Adapter Removing the Wireless Printer Adapter If the printer location needs to change or the printer and print media handling options need to be shipped to a new location, all print media handling options must be removed from the printer. For shipping, pack the printer and print media handling options securely to avoid damage. Removing the Optional 250 - Sheet Feeder 1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable. Then, disconnect all cables from the back of the printer. 2. Pull the standard 250 - sheet tray out of the printer about 200 mm. Hold the tray with both hands, and remove it from the printer. 3. Remove the two screws joining the printer and the optional 250 - sheet feeder by unscrewing them with a coin or similar object. 4. Gently lift the printer off the tray module, and place it on a level surface. CAUTION: If you are removing an optional 250 - sheet feeder, be sure to turn off the printer, unplug the power cable, and disconnect all cables from the back of the printer before completing these tasks. NOTE: The screw hole is located in 216 mm recess from the front of the printer. CAUTION: To lift the printer safely, lift it with two people facing the front and back. Never try to lift the printer while facing its right and left sides.
5. Insert the standard 250 - sheet tray into the printer, and push until it stops. 6. Reconnect all cables including the power cable into the back of the printer and turn on the printer. Removing a Duplexer 1. Ensure that the printer is turned off. 2. Push the side button and open the front cover. 3. Hold the side button and release the lock of the duplexer by lifting the front edge of it slightly. 4. Remove the duplexer from the printer by lifting it vertically and holding it horizontally. 5. Close the front cover. CAUTION: Do not use excessive force on the tray. Doing so could damage the tray or the inside of the printer.
Removing a Memory 1. Ensure that the printer is turned off. 2. Turn the screw on the control board cover in a counter - clockwise direction and open the cover. 3. Remove the control board cover. 4. Push the latches on both edges of the socket outward at the same time to raise the memory up. 5. Hold the memory and pull it out. 6. Install the control board cover. NOTE: Take off the below edge of the control board cover by turning the control board cover on hinge in the above edge. Next, remove the control board cover by pulling it from the printer. NOTE: Insert the above hinge of the control board cover into the above slit on the printer. Next, insert the below hinge of the control board cover into the below slit on the printer.
7. Close the control board cover and turn the screw clockwise. Removing the Network Protocol Adapter 1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable. Then, disconnect all cables from the back of the printer. 2. Turn the screw on the control board cover in a counter - clockwise direction and open the cover. 3. Remove the control board cover. 4. Remove the network protocol adapter by releasing the adapters hooks. NOTE: Take off the below edge of the control board cover by turning the control board cover on hinge in the above edge. Next, remove the control board cover by pulling it from the printer.
5. Install the control board cover. 6. Close the control board cover and turn the screw clockwise. 7. Reconnect all cables including the power cable into the back of the printer and turn on the printer. Removing the Wireless Printer Adapter 1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable. Then, disconnect all cables from the back of the printer. 2. Turn the screw on the control board cover in a counter - clockwise direction and open the cover. 3. Remove the control board cover. NOTE: Insert the above hinge of the control board cover into the above slit on the printer. Next, insert the below hinge of the control board cover into the below slit on the printer. NOTE: Take off the below edge of the control board cover by turning the control board cover on hinge in the above edge. Next, remove the control board cover by pulling it from the printer.
