    For Windows 7, and Windows 7 64-bit Edition, Windows Server 2008 R21
    Click Start  Control Panel  Network and Internet  Network and 
    Sharing Center
      Change advanced sharing settings.
    2To allow your computer to be found on the network and to allow other 
    computers on the network to share the files and folders on your computer, 
    click 
    Turn on network discovery.
    3Click Save changes.
    4If you see the User Account Control dialog box, click Ye s.
    For Windows Vista, Windows Vista 64-bit Edition, Windows Server 2008, 
    Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition:
    1
    Click Start  Network.
    2Right-click Network and select Properties.
    Network an Sharing Center screen appears.
    3Click the down arrow button next to either Network discovery.
    4To allow your computer to be found on the network and to allow other 
    computers on the network to share the files and folders on your computer, 
    click Turn on network discovery.
    5Click Apply.
    6If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it 
    displays is what you want, and then click 
    Continue. 
    Disable Simple File Sharing
     NOTE: This step is required for Windows XP, and Windows XP 64-bit Edition.
    1Click Start  Control Panel.
    2Select Appearance and Themes.
    3Select Folder Options.
    4On the Vi e w tab, clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check 
    box, and then click 
    OK.
    5Click Start  Control Panel.
    6Select Performance and Maintenance.
    7Select Administrative Tools.

    8Click Local Security Policy.
    9Click Local Policies  Security Options.
    10Right-click Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts 
    and select 
    Properties.
    11Ensure that Classic - local users authenticate as themselves is selected.
    Installing the Printer Driver
     NOTE: Installation on Windows XP Home Edition, Windows Vista Home Basic, 
    Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vist a x64 Home Basic, Windows Vista x64 
    Home Premium, Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Home 
    Premium, Windows 7 x64 Home Basic, and  Windows 7 x64 Home Premium is not 
    supported.
    1Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD provided with the printer in your 
    computer. The Easy Setup Navigato r file launches automatically.
    2Click Software Installation.
    Install Printer Driver and Software screen appears.
    3Select Network Installation, and then click Next.
    4Select Remote Installation, and then click Next.
    5Enter the Administrator user name and password of the client computer, 
    then select the clients or servers, and then 
    Next.
     NOTE: If you are running any of the following operating systems, a Windows 
    Security Alert is displayed:
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows Vista 64-bit Edition
    • Windows Server 2008
    • Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Edition
    • Windows 7
    • Windows 7 64-bit Edition
    To continue installing the ho st-based printer driver, click Unblock or 
    Allow access (for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7).
    6Check if the printer to be installed is listed in Select Printer, and then click 
    Next.

     NOTE: If the printer to be installed is not listed in Select Printer, try the 
    following steps:
    • Click Refresh  to update the information.
    • Click  Add Printer , and then enter a port name (any alphanumeric string of 
    your choosing) and an existing IP address for the printer.
    7Select the required items on the Printer Configuration, and then click 
    Install.
     NOTE: When you change installation folder, click  Input, and then enter the 
    path and click  OK on  Installation Folder dialog box.
    8Click Finish to exit this tool.
    Configuring Wireless Settings
    This section describes ho w to configure wireless se ttings through Easy Setup 
    Navigator.
    The specifications of wireless se tting function are described below:
    You can select a method to configure  a wireless setting from the following:
    ItemSpecification

    Connectivity Standard IEEE 802.11b/802.11g/802.11n compliant
    Bandwidth 2.4 GHz
    Data Transfer Rate IEEE 802.11b mode: 11, 5.5, 2, 1 Mbps 
    IEEE 802.11g mode: 54, 48, 36, 24, 18, 12, 9, 6 Mbps 
    IEEE 802.11n mode: 65 Mbps
    Security 64 (40-bit key)/ 128 (104-bit key) WEP, WPA-PSK 
    (TKIP, AES), WPA2-PSK (AES)(IEEE 802.1x 
    attestation function of WPA 1x non-corresponds)
    Wifi Protected Setup (WPS) Push Button Configuration (PBC), Personal  Identification Number (PIN)

     NOTE: For information on how to install a wireless, see Using Wizard Setup to 
    Configure Wireless Settings on page 70  or Using Advanced Setup to Configure 
    Wireless Settings on page 72.
    Using Wizard Setup to  Configure Wireless Settings
    1Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD provided with the printer in your 
    computer. The 
    Easy Setup Navigator file launches automatically. 
    Wizard Setup through USB connection
    Advanced Setup through
    Ethernet connection
    Operator Panel
    Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool
    WPS-PIN
    *1
    WPS-PBC*2
    *1WPS-PIN (Wi-Fi® Protected Setup-Personal Identification Number) is a method to 
    authenticate and register devices required for wireless configuration, by entering 
    PIN assignments in the printer and computer. This setting, performed through 
    access point, is available only when the  access points of your wireless router 
    supports WPS.
    *2WPS-PBC (Wi-Fi Protected  Setup-Push Button Configuration) is a method to 
    authenticate and register devices required for wireless configuration, by pressing 
    the button provided on the access point via wireless routers, and then performing 
    WPS-PBC setting on the operator panel. This setting is available only when the 
    access point supports WPS.

    2Click Guided Setup.
    3Select Wireless Connection, and then click Next.
    The setting method selection window appears.
    4Ensure that Wizard is selected, and then click Next.
    5Follow the instructions until Check Setup screen appears.
    6Confirm there are no errors displayed in  the operator panel, and then click 
    NO.
    If you see any errors, click 
    YES and follow the instruction.

    7Click Start installation.
    8Select Local Installation, and then click Next.
    9Check if the printer to be installed is listed in the Select Printer screen, 
    and then click 
    Next.
     NOTE: If the printer to be installed is not listed in the  Select Printer screen, try 
    the following steps:
    • Click  Refresh  to update the information.
    • Click  Add Printer , and then enter the details of the printer manually.
    10Select the required items on the Enter Printer Settings screen, and then 
    click 
    Next.
    11Select the software to be installed, and then click Install.
    Congratulations! screen appears.
    12Click Finish to exit this tool.
    Wireless Configuration is complete.
    Using Advanced Setup to  Configure Wireless Settings
    To use the Advanced Setup, display the  Configuration Wireless Setting screen.
    Displaying Configure Wireless Settings Screen
    1Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD provided with the printer in your 
    computer. The 
    Easy Setup Navigator file launches automatically.

    2Click Guided Setup.
    3Select Wireless Connection, and then click Next.
    The setting method selection window appears.
    4Select Advanced.
    Select a connection method from the following
    • Ethernet Cable
    •WPS-PIN
    •WPS-PBC
    •Operator Panel
    • Dell Printer Configuration Web Tool
    Ethernet Cable
    1Select Ethernet Cable, and then click Next.
    2Follow the instructions, and then click Next.
    Advanced Configuration Tool screen appears.
    3Select the printer to be configured in the Select Printer screen, and then 
    click 
    Next.
     NOTE: If the printer to be configured is not listed in the Select Printer screen, 
    try the following steps:

    •Click  Refresh  to update the information.
    • Click  Enter IP Address , and then enter the IP address of your printer.
    4Enter SSID.
    5Select Type of wireless network.
    6Configure the security setting, and then click Next.
    IP Address Settings screen appears.
    7Select IP Mode depending on your network scheme.
    When 
    IPv4 is selected:
    Configure the following:
    aSelect Ty p e.
    bEnter the following items:
    •
    IP address of your printer
    •Subnet Musk
    • Gateway Address
    When IPv6 is selected:
    Configure the following:
    aSelect Use Manual Address.
    bEnter IP address of your printer.
    cEnter gateway address of your network.
    When 
    Dual Stack (both IPv4 and IPv6) is selected:
    Configure the both setting (IPv4 and IPv6)
    8Click Next.
    9Ensure that the wireless setting s is displayed, and then click Apply.
    Complete configuration screen appears.
    10Click Next.
    11Follow the instructions until Check Setup screen appears, and then click 
    Next.
    12Confirm there are no errors displayed on  the operator panel, and then click 
    NO on the Check Setup screen.

     NOTE: If you see any errors, click YES and follow the instruction.
    13Click Start Installation.
    14Select Local Installation, and then click Next.
    15Check if the printer to be  installed is listed in the Select Printer screen, 
    and then click 
    Next.
     NOTE: If the printer to be instal led is not listed in the Select Printer screen, try 
    the following steps:
    •Click Refresh to update the information.
    •Click 
    Add Printer, and then enter the details of the printer 
    manually.
    16Configure the required items on the Enter Printer Settings screen, and 
    then click 
    Next.
    17Select the software to be installed, and then click Install.
    Congratulations! screen appears.
    18Click Finish to exit this tool.
    Wireless Configuration is complete.

    WPS-PIN
