    rollers.
Cleaning sheets can be purchased as consumables. For details,
contact your local authorized Canon dealer or service

The cleaning sheet feeds through the scanner, and the

    side in the same way.
    IMPORTANT
When placing the adhesive side down, make sure to support
the cleaning sheet while inserting it into the feed inlet so that
it does not touch the Document Feed Tray.
Dust that is not removed by the cleaning sheet should be
wiped off with a moistened and thoroughly wrung-out cloth.
    Cleaning the Glass
The scanner has two types of glass: the sensor glass for
document detection, and the scanning glass for actual
    scanning.
    Hint
The appearance of extraneous spots or streaks in scanned
images may indicate a dirty scanning glass.
To clean the scanning glass, turn ON the lamp beneath the glass
so that any dust can be easily seen and wiped away.
    IMPORTANT
Scratches on the scanning glass may cause spots or streaks on
scanned images, as well as feeding errors. If you find a scratch on
the scanning glass, contact your local authorized Canon dealer or
service representative to have the glass replaced.
1.Carefully raise the upper unit until it stops.
2.Press and hold the Start key on the control panel for

    Cleaning the Platen Rollers
The platen rollers are located near the upper and lower sides

before scanning, and to provide the selected background
(white or black) for document images.
Clean the platen rollers periodically using the following
    procedure.
    Hint

    2.Replacing the Transport Rollers
As the rollers start to wear out, feeding quality declines, and document feed errors, such as paper jams, become more likely.
If document feed errors continue to occur after cleaning the rollers, purchase the Roller Replacement Kit and replace the transport
rollers (pickup, feed, and retard rollers).
    Roller Replacement Cycle
The feeding rollers are consumables that must be replaced
after feeding about every 500,000 pages.
When the rollers have fed more than 500,000 pages, a roller
replacement message appears on the display panel whenever
the scanner is turned ON. When the scanner is configured to
reboot with the computer, a roller replacement message also
    appears on the computer screen.
    IMPORTANT
When the roller replacement message appears, purchase the
Roller Replacement Kit and replace the rollers by following the
relevant steps in the cleaning procedures.
–(See “Cleaning the Pickup and Feed Rollers” on p. 5-7.)
–(See “Cleaning the Retard Roller” on p. 5-9.)
When the rollers start to wear out, problems such as paper jams
and document misfeeds may occur more frequently. If this
happens, replace the rollers, regardless of the page count of the
    roller usage counter.
Messages on the display panel can be cleared by pressing the
Stop key. However, the messages will continue to be displayed
each time the scanner is turned ON until the roller counter is
    reset.
Make sure to reset the roller counter when replacing the rollers.
(See “Checking and Resetting the Page Counter” on p. 5-13.)
