    (2)Mount the film in the film guide with the front side (the side showing the correct image) 
    face down. Pass the tip of the film under the tabs of the film guide, then position the film 
    in the film guide so that the spaces between frames are aligned with the white line mark 
    of the film guide.
    (3)Close the film holder completely with squeezing it inward while pressing.
    (4)With the front side of the film (the side showing the correct image) face down, align the 
    film guide with the indentations on the right and left sides of the Platen Glass.
    Note
    zEnsure that all the tabs on its outer edges fit into the slots in the film guide when closing the 
    film holder. If the film holder is floating, press the whole downward.
    zIf the film holder will not close properly, reposition the film so that its perforations are set 
    properly in the film guide slots, and try again.
    Note
    zWhen placing film strips that are shorter than the film guide, part of an image near the open 
    area may appear pale. In this case, place black paper over the open area to shield it.
    zLabels attached to areas of the film without images may be interpreted as images and be 
    included in the scan.

    zMounting 35 mm Slides:
    (1)Align the film guide with the indentations on the right and left sides of the Platen Glass.
    (2)Mount the slides in the film guide with the front side (the side showing the correct image) 
    face down and with the image upside down. Load the slides in the landscape orientation, 
    making sure they are not loose in the film guide.
    Important
    The images may be unsatisfactory if the film is set beyond the reference position (A) indicated 
    by the white line. Do not set the film beyond the reference position.

    6Slowly close the Document Cover and press [OK]. 
    The film is scanned.
    Printing Photographs
    Let’s select a scanned photo and specify the number of prints, and print it.
    „Printing Photo Displayed on the LCD (Single-photo print)
    Print a scanned photo.
    1Prepare for printing.
    (1)Load paper.
    See“Loading Paper” on page 20.
    (2)Ensure that the proper paper source is selected.
    See“Changing the Paper Source” on page 24.
    (3)Scan a photo or a film.
    See“Scanning a Photo” on page 65 or “Scanning a Film” on page 67.
    Note
    zFilm is scanned in the order from left to right.
    zMount the film in the film guide with the upper edge of the photograph towards you to 
    prevent the scanned photographs from being displayed upside down on the LCD. 
    Depending on the model or brand of your camera, the scanning order may differ from the 
    frame order of the film.
    Note
    zThe photo or film is rescanned before printing starts. Do not open the Document Cover or 
    remove the photo or film from the Platen Glass until printing is complete.
    zIf the film was not scanned properly, see “Cannot Scan Films” on page 131.
    zPress [PHOTO/FILM] when loading another film. If  appears on the LCD, select , press [OK] to delete the previous image data, 
    then go to main step 2.
    Note
    Specify [Feed Switch] so that the Auto Sheet Feeder Lamp is lit when feeding paper from the 
    Auto Sheet Feeder and the Cassette Lamp is lit when feeding paper from the Cassette.

    2Select the print menu.
    (1)Use [ ] or [ ] to select , then press [OK].
    The photo selection screen is displayed.
    3Select the photo you want to print.
    (1)Use [ ] or [ ] to display the photo you want to print.
    (2)Press [Color] or [Black].
    The print confirmation screen is displayed.
    4Start printing.
    (1)Check the page size and media type.
    (2)Use [ ] or [ ] to specify the number of prints.

    page 73.

    Press [Settings] to check or change the page size, media type, or other settings. See “To 
    Change Print Settings” on page 35.

    (3)Press [Color] to print in color, or [Black] to print in black & white.
    The machine starts printing.
    „Specifying How Many Copies to Print for Each Photo (Multi-photo print)
    You can specify the number of prints to be made for each photo.
    1Prepare for printing.
    See “Prepare for printing.” on page 71.
    2Select the print menu.
    (1)Use [ ] or [ ] to select , then press [OK].
    The photo selection screen is displayed.
    3Specify the number of prints for each photo.
    (1)Use [ ] or [ ] to select the image you want to print.
    (2)Use [ ] or [ ] to specify the number of prints.
    (3)Repeat from step (1) to step (2) to specify the number of prints for each photo.
    (4)Press [OK].
    The print confirmation screen is displayed.
    4Start printing.
    (1)Confirm the settings.
    To change any of the settings, press [Settings].

    (2)Press [Color] or [Black].
    The specified number of copies of each photo will be printed.
    Other Useful Functions
    „Printing a Specified Area (Trimming)
    You can edit images displayed on the LCD by cropping them. 
    For detailed operations, see “Printing a Specified Area (Trimming)” on page 55.

    To cancel printing, press [Stop/Reset].

    You can print your favorite photo on Canon Photo Stickers to create your own stickers.
    1Prepare for printing.

    2Select the print menu.
    (1)Use [ ] or [ ] to select , then press [OK].
    (2)Use [ ] or [ ] to select , then press [OK].
    3Select the layout for the sticker you want to print.

    4Select the photo you want to print.
    (1)Use [ ] or [ ] to display the photo to print, then press [OK].
    The print confirmation screen is displayed.
    5Start printing.

    „Printing All Photos (Print all photos)
    You can print all scanned photos.

    2Select the print menu.

    Printing Photographs Directly from a 
    Compliant Device
    Connecting a PictBridge compliant device such as a digital camera, camcorder or mobile phone to 
    the machine allows you to print recorded images directly without using a computer.
    (A) This mark indicates that the product is PictBridge-compatible. See 
    “Printing Photographs 
    Directly from a PictBridge Compliant Device” on page 78.

    Note
    zPictBridge is an industry standard enabling a range of digital photo solutions, including the direct 
    printing of photos from a digital still camera, camcorder or mobile phone* without the need to use 
    a computer.
    zIt is possible to specify which images to print and various print settings from the operation panel of 
    your camera or mobile phone.
    zCanon Bubble Jet Direct allows you to print photos from a Canon Bubble Jet Direct compatible 
    (PictBridge incompatible) digital camera or digital video camcorder without a computer, by simply 
    connecting the digital camera or digital video camcorder to this machine.
    For details, see “Printing Photographs Directly from a Canon Bubble Jet Direct Compatible Digital 
    Camera” on page 82.
    * Hereafter, the digital still camera, digital camcorder, and camera-equipped mobile phone 
    compatible with PictBridge are collectively called a PictBridge compliant device.

    Connecting to a PictBridge Compliant Device
    To connect a PictBridge compliant device to this machine, use the USB cable supplied with the 
    device.
    1Set up the machine.
    Refer to the Setup Guide to set up the machine and make it ready for printing.
    2Turn on the machine.
    See “Turning on the Machine” on page 18.
    3Load the paper in the machine.
    See “Loading Paper” on page 20.
    4Connect the PictBridge compliant device to the machine.
    (1)Ensure that the device is turned off.
    Caution
    Do not connect any equipment other than PictBridge compliant devices, Canon Bubble Jet Direct 
    compatible digital cameras or optional Bluetooth Units BU-20 to the Direct Print Port of the machine. 
    If you do so, electric shock, fire, or damage to the device could result.
    Note
    When printing photos with the digital device connected to the machine, it is advisable to use the AC 
    adapter supplied with the device. If you use the device battery, be sure to charge it fully.
    Note
    The Print Head cannot be aligned using the controls of the digital device. If the Print Head 
    alignment is not yet performed, execute automatic Print Head alignment, see “Aligning Print 
    Head automatically” on page 120.
    Note
    Depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a print mode 
    compliant with PictBridge before connecting the device.
    You may also have to turn on the device or select Play mode manually after connecting the 
    device to the machine.
    Perform necessary operations according to the instruction manual supplied with the 
    PictBridge compliant device.

    (2)Connect the device to the machine using the USB cable (for connection to a computer) 
    supplied with the device.
    (3)Turn on and set up the device for direct printing.
    Either of the following icons will display on the LCD display of the device when the 
    machine is correctly connected.
     A PictBridge compliant device.
     A Canon Bubble Jet Direct compatible digital camera.
    Note
    Some types of the PictBridge compliant devices do not turn on automatically, when connected 
    to the machine. If the device does not turn on automatically, turn it on manually.

    If neither of these icons appear, see “Cannot Print Properly from the Digital Camera” on

    Printing Photographs Directly from a PictBridge 
    Compliant Device
    When operating the device, be sure to follow the instructions given in the instruction manual supplied 
    with the PictBridge compliant device. Let’s take a look at the paper size, paper type, layout, image 
    optimization modes, and date/file no. printing that can be set on a PictBridge compliant device 
    connected to the machine.
    „Checking or Changing PictBridge Print Settings from Your Camera
    To change the paper size or paper type operate the device to select the PictBridge print setup 
    mode and confirm or change the settings.
    The settings below can be changed by pressing [Settings] in Memory card mode of this machine 
    when a PictBridge compliant device is connected. However, changes can be made on the 
    Settings screen (Memory Card) only when the corresponding items below are in the “Default” 
    setting items (selections based on the machine setting) using the controls of the device.
    About the Settings Explained below
    The settings explained on the following pages cannot be made on some PictBridge compliant 
    devices. If any setting cannot be made, the machine setting is used.
    * Names of settings that are displayed on Canon PictBridge compliant device are used in the 
    description given below. Different names may be displayed on the PictBridge compliant device 
    depending on the brand or model.
    About Image Data Format for Printing
    This machine accepts images* taken with a camera compatible with the Design rule for Camera 
    File System and PNG files.
