Chapter 12 159Troubleshooting „Writing Error/Output Error in CNBJNPnnnnnn MP Drivers is not installed properly. Uninstall then reinstall the MP Drivers. 1. Click [Start], and select [All Programs] (or [Programs]), the name of your machine, and [Uninstall]. 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the driver. 3. Follow the procedures described in the Setup Guide and reinstall the MP Drivers. CauseAction Machine is not ready. Ensure that the lamp on the Operation Panel lights. If the lamp on the Operation Panel is off, turn the machine on. While [COPY] is flashing, the machine is initializing. Wait until [COPY] stops flashing and stays lit. When the Alarm Lamp lights orange, an error may occur in the machine. For details on how to resolve the error, see “An Error Message is Displayed on the LCD” on page 127. Paper is not loaded. Load paper and press [OK]. If paper is loaded, ensure that the paper source (the Auto Sheet Feeder or Cassette) is selected correctly. If the paper source is not selected correctly, use [Feed Switch] or the printer driver to change the paper source. If this error (Paper is not loaded) is ignored for a certain period of time, an additional message may be displayed. Printer port setting does not match the interface connected to the machine.Check the printer port settings. 1. Open the Printer Properties dialog box. See “Printing from Your Computer” on page 90. 2. Click the Ports tab (or the Details tab) and select CNBJNPnnnnnn (“n” represents a number) as the printer port to be used. The settings of both the access point and the machine are not identical.Check the settings of the access point and modify the settings of machine as same as those of the access point. For information on the access point settings, refer to the access point manual. For information on how to set a WEP/WPA/WPA2 key, refer to “How to set a WEP/WPA/WPA2” of “Troubleshooting” in the Network Guide. The network setting of the computer is not correct.Make sure that the computer can communicate with the access point. The radio status is poor. Adjust the installation positions and the antenna direction while monitoring the radio status with Canon IJ Network Tool. The distance between machine and access point is too far.Relocate the machine and access point as closely together as is possible. There is an obstruction or a source of radio wave interference.Communication between different rooms or floors is generally poor. Adjust the installation locations of the devices. There may be a device such as a microwave oven that is using the same frequency bandwidth as the wireless station. Place the wireless LAN devices as far away from the radio wave interference source as possible. Machine setup is not completed./The MP driver is not installed.Complete the machine setup. If the MP driver is not installed, follow the procedure described in the Setup Guide to install the MP driver. CauseAction
160Chapter 12Troubleshooting „When an Error is Displayed Regarding Automatic Duplex Printing „Error No.: 300 is Displayed The MAC address filtering or the IP address filtering is configured on the access point.On the access point, additionally register the IP address or MAC address of the machine and the computer, or disable the MAC address filtering or the IP address filtering. The access control is set to the machine.Print out the network setting information and verify if the access control with IP address or MAC address is enabled on the machine. For details on printing the network setting information, see “Printing Out Network Setting Information” of “Changing and Confirming Network Settings” in theNetwork Guide. If the machine is configured to use the access control, register the IP address or the MAC address of your computer to the machine. For details on settings, see “Changing the Settings in the [Access Control] Tab (Windows)” or “Changing the Settings in the [Access Control] Tab (Macintosh)” of “Changing and Confirming Network Settings” in the Network Guide. CauseAction The correct media size is not selected in the printer driver.Check the Page Size setting from within your application software to ensure that it matches the size of the paper loaded. Check [Page Size] on the [Page Setup] tab in the printer properties dialog box (Windows) or the [Page Setup] dialog box (Macintosh) to ensure that it matches the size of the paper loaded. The page sizes that can be used for Automatic Duplex Printing are Letter, A4, B5, A5, and 5" x 7" / 127.0 x 177.8 mm. Check that the page size of the loaded paper is correct. NoteTo print on both sides of the page manually, follow the procedure below. On the [Page Setup] tab, clear the [Automatic] check box. Then try printing again. The manual duplex printing function cannot be used. CauseAction The machine is not ready. Ensure that the lamp on the Operation Panel lights. If the lamp on the Operation Panel is off, turn the machine on. While [COPY] is flashing, the machine is initializing. Wait until [COPY] stops flashing and stays lit. When the Alarm Lamp lights orange, an error may occur in the machine. For details on how to resolve the error, see “An Error Message is Displayed on the LCD” on page 127. Machine is not properly connected. Ensure that the printer cable is securely connected to the computer. zIf using a switching hub or other device, disconnect the machine and reconnect it directly to the computer and try printing again. If successful, the problem may have been with the device. zThere could also be a problem with the cable(s). Replace the cable(s) and try printing again. CauseAction
Chapter 12 161Troubleshooting „Error No.: 306 is Displayed „Error No.: 1700 is Displayed „Error No.: 1851 is Displayed The name of the machine being used is not selected in the [Printer] pull- down menu of the [Print] dialog box.Select [MP800R] from the [Printer] pop-up menu in the [Print] dialog box of the printer driver. If [MP800R] is not displayed in the printer list, follow the procedure below to confirm the settings. 1. Select [Print & Fax Preferences] from the [Printer] pop-up menu. 2. Check that [MP800R] is displayed in the screen that is displayed and select the [In Menu] check box. When you are using Mac OS X v.10.3.x or Mac OS X v.10.2.x, select [Edit Printer List] from the [Printer] pop-up menu and ensure that [MP800R] is displayed in the [Printer List] and select the check box. 3. If [MP800R] is not displayed, click [+] to add a printer. If [MP800R] is not displayed, install the MP Drivers again referring to the Setup Guide for the operation. CauseAction Cannot print over the wireless LAN. Make sure that the machine is turned on. The machine cannot communicate through the network, refer to “Troubleshooting” in the Network Guide. CauseAction The waste ink absorber is almost full.Ink used for cleaning is absorbed in a waste ink absorber placed in the machine. Press [OK] to cancel the error so that you can continue printing. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing cannot be done until the waste ink absorber is replaced. Canon recommends to contact the Canon Customer Care Center as soon as possible. CauseAction Inner Cover is open when starting regular printing.Close Inner Cover, then press [OK] on the machine. CauseAction
162Chapter 12Troubleshooting „Error No.: 1856 is Displayed „Error No.: 2001 is Displayed „Error No.: 2500 is Displayed „For Windows Users CauseAction During regular printing, Inner Cover is opened.Close Inner Cover, press [OK] on the machine, then try printing again. One page of the print data being sent at the time of the error will be erased, so print that page again. CauseAction A specified period of time has elapsed without receiving a response from the digital camera./ The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected is not compatible with this machine.Disconnect the camera cable and reconnect it. Depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a print mode compliant with PictBridge before connecting the device. You may also have to turn on the device or select Play mode manually after connecting the device to the machine. Unplug the connecting cable and clear the error. Perform necessary operations for connection referring to the instruction manual supplied with the PictBridge compliant device, and then connect the cable again. If the error is still unresolved, there is a possibility that you are using a digital camera or digital video camcorder that is not supported by this machine. Use a digital camera or digital video camcorder compatible with this machine. CauseAction Auto head align has failed. See “Auto head align has failed.” on page 129. CauseAction The [Instructions] button is not displayed on the printer driver screen.The [Instructions] on the printer driver screen is not displayed if the on- screen manuals (instruction manuals) are not installed. Set the “Setup CD- ROM” in your computer and install the on-screen manuals (instruction manuals). NoteThe [Instructions] is displayed only on [Main] and [Maintenance] tabs. Scan Guide is not displayed. The button for displaying the scanner driver operating instruction is grayed out when the on-screen manuals (instruction manuals) are not installed. Set the “Setup CD-ROM” in your computer and install the on- screen manuals (instruction manuals).
Chapter 12 163Troubleshooting If You Cannot Resolve the Problem If you cannot resolve the problem with any of the workarounds in this chapter, please contact the Canon Customer Care Center. Canon support staff are trained to be able to provide technical support to satisfy customers. Before contacting the Canon Customer Care Center, confirm the following: zProduct name: PIXMA MP800R zSerial number: written on label inside machine zDetails of the problem zWhat you tried to solve the problem, and what happened Caution Attempts by customers to repair or take apart the machine will invalidate any warranty regardless of whether the warranty has expired. Note If the machine emits any unusual sound, smoke, or odor, turn it off immediately. Unplug the power cord from the outlet and contact the Canon Customer Care Center. Never attempt to repair or disassemble the machine yourself.

The actual printable area will be the area without these margins. By selecting Borderless Printing*, printing with no margins is possible. * This is available in A4, Letter, 4" x 6" /101.6 x 152.4 mm, 4" x 8" /101.6 x 203.2 mm, 5" x 7" / 127.0 x 177.8 mm, and 2.13" x 3.39" / 54.0 x 86.0 mm sizes of paper. If you are making borderless copies in Copy mode or borderless prints in Photo/Film mode, you can adjust the amount of image that extends off the paper by setting under . „A5, A4, B5, 4" x 6", 4" x 8", 5" x 7", 2.13" x 3.39" Note zIn duplex printing, the printable area at the top of the page is 2 mm / 0.08 inches narrower than the usual area. zIf you print fully on the printable area outside of the recommended printing area, print quality or paper feeding accuracy may go down. Read these manuals for detailed information on usage of the machine that is not mentioned in this document, troubleshooting, or usage of the application softwares supplied with the Setup CD-ROM, etc. You can install the on-screen manuals using the Setup CD-ROM by either of the following. zSelect “Easy Install” to install the on-screen manuals along with the MP driver and application softwares. zSelect “On-screen Manual” from “Custom Install” to install the on-screen manuals. If you have not installed or have deleted the on-screen manuals, use either method above to install them. Chapter 13 167Appendix Uninstalling the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility Follow the steps described below to uninstall the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility from your computer. 1Click [Start], and select [All Programs] (or [Programs]), [Canon IJ Network Utilities], [Canon IJ Network Scan Utility], and then [Uninstaller]. 2Click [Yes] when the confirmation message appears. When the message prompting you to restart your computer is displayed, click [OK] to restart your computer. zIf you are using Mac OS X v.10.3 - v.10.4 (1)Select [Applications] from the [Go] menu, then double-click [System Preferences]. (2)Click [Accounts] from [System], select using user name from [My Account], and then select [Login Items] (when using Mac OS X v.10.3, select [Startup Items]). (3)Select the [Hide] check box of the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility, then click [-]. (4)Restart the computer. (5)Double-click the icon of the hard disk on which the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility is installed, then double-click [Library], [Printers], [Canon], [BJPrinter], [Utilities] and move [Canon IJ Network Scan Utility] to the trash. zIf you are using Mac OS X v.10.2 (1)Select [Applications] from the [Go] menu, then double-click [System Preferences]. (2)Click [Login Items] from [Personal]. (3)Select the [Hide] check box of the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility, then click [Remove]. (4)Restart the computer. (5)Double-click the icon of the hard disk on which the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility is installed, then double-click [Library], [Printers], [Canon], [BJPrinter], [Utilities] and move [Canon IJ Network Scan Utility] to the trash. Note To reinstall the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility, uninstall the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility and the Canon IJ Network Tool, then do a [Custom Install] with Setup CD-ROM and select the Canon IJ Network Tool to install them again. Important When not logged on as a computer administrator or Administrators, you cannot uninstall the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility. For further information on how to log on as an administrator, refer to the Macintosh manuals.

If the on-screen manuals have been installed, all of them will be deleted collectively. 1Click [Start], and select [All Programs] (or [Programs]), [Canon MP800R Manual], and then [Uninstall]. 2Click [OK] when the confirmation message appears. When the message prompting you to restart your computer is displayed, click [OK] to restart your computer. zDeleting the Printer Driver Guide The Printer Driver Guide is deleted when the printer driver is deleted. zDeleting the User’s Guide and the Photo Application Guide (1)Select [Applications] from the [Go] menu. (2)Double-click the [Canon Utilities] folder, and then the [IJ Manual] folder. (3)Drag the [MP800R] folder into the trash. (4)Drag the [MP800R On-screen Manual] on your desktop into the trash. Transporting Machine When relocating the machine or storing the machine for a long period of time, pack the machine using the original packing materials. If you do not have the original packing materials, pack the machine carefully using protective material and place inside a sturdy box. Caution Do not transport or store the machine on a slant, vertically or upside-down, as the ink may leak from the machine and cause damage to it. Important zMake sure to lock the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) by sliding the Scanner Lock Switch to the Lock position . zPack the machine with the Print Head and ink tanks left installed. Note Before shipping the machine by special delivery or post, clearly label the box as “FRAGILE” or “HANDLE WITH CARE.”
