Using the Printing Functions4-26 Printing a Document 4 IMPORTANT Using the toner save mode may decrease print density making printed text look patchy. ■[Manual Grayscale Settings] (See p. 4-46) Check this box if you want to customize the grayscale settings. To configure the grayscale settings in detail, click the [Grayscale Settings] button to open the [Grayscale Settings] dialog box. ■[Grayscale Settings] (See p. 4-46) Click [Grayscale Settings] to open the dialog box shown below. This dialog box allows you to specify brightness and contrast used for printing.
Using the Printing Functions4-27 Printing a Document 4 [General] Sheet This sheet displays the printer name and allows you to print a test page. [Details] Sheet (Windows 98/Me only) This sheet allows you to configure printer port settings, add drivers, modify spooling settings, etc.
Using the Printing Functions4-28 Printing a Document 4 [Sharing] Sheet This sheet allows you to specify whether or not to share the printer. NOTE •For Windows 98/Me, the [Sharing] sheet does not appear if [File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks] has not been added in the network settings. (See p. 3-48) •For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista, the [Sharing] sheet does not appear if the network has not been configured. (See p. 3-53) [Ports] Sheet (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista only) This sheet allows you to add, delete, and configure the printer port.

[Color Management] Sheet (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista only) The [Color Management] sheet is not used by this printer.
Using the Printing Functions4-30 Printing a Document 4 [Security] Sheet (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista only) This sheet allows you to confirm the access permissions for each user. NOTE •On Windows XP Professional, the [Security] sheet is not displayed if the [Use simple file sharing (Recommended)] checkbox is checked in the [View] sheet of the Windows [Folder Options] settings. •On Windows XP Home Edition, the [Security] sheet is not displayed. [Configuration]/[Device Settings] Sheet The [Configuration]/[Device Settings] sheet allows you to configure when the Printer Status Windows is displayed, and other settings.
Using the Printing Functions4-31 Printing a Document 4 ■[Spooling at Host] (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista only) You can specify whether spooling is performed at the Host. ■[Show Icon in the Taskbar] (See p. 4-63) When this option is checked, an icon for displaying the Printer Status Window appears in the Windows Taskbar. [Profile] Sheet (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista only) This sheet allows you to create and add new Profiles and to edit existing Profiles. ■[Profile List] Lists the available Profiles. ■[Name] Displays the name of the Profile selected in the [Profile List]. ■[Comment] Displays a comment about the Profile selected in [Profile List]. ■[Add] (See p. 4-48) Click [Add] to open the dialog box shown below.
Using the Printing Functions4-32 Printing a Document 4 This dialog box allows you to enter the [Name], [Icon], [Comment], and printing preferences for a newly added Profile or a Profile that you are editing. ■[Edit] (See p. 4-50) Click [Edit] to open the dialog box shown below. This dialog box allows you to enter the [Name], [Icon], [Comment], and printing preferences for a newly added Profile or a Profile that you are editing. ■[Delete] (See p. 4-50) Allows you to delete an added Profile. ■[Import] (See p. 4-50) Allows you to import a Profile saved as a file and add it to the printer driver. ■[Export] (See p. 4-51) Allows you to save an added or edited Profile as a file.
Using the Printing Functions4-33 Printing a Document 4 ■[Allow Profile Selection] Allows you to select a Profile from within the [Document Properties] dialog box. ■[Allow Setting Edition] Allows you to add new Profiles that are different from the Profiles previously registered in the [Document Properties] dialog box. Preview The preview panel on the [Page Setup], [Paper Source], and [Finishing] sheets shows the current printer settings. You can change [Page Layout] and [Finishing] settings by right-clicking on the Preview panel. The Preview panel functions differently depending on which icon is selected ( or ) at the upper left of the Preview panel. ■When is selected You can adjust the [Page Layout] setting. The [Page Layout] setting changes cyclically between [1 Page per Sheet], [2 Pages per Sheet], and [4 Pages per Sheet] each time you left-click within the document image. If you right-click within the Preview panel, you can choose between [1 Page per Sheet], [2 Pages per Sheet], and [4 Pages per Sheet]. ■When is selected You can adjust the [Finishing] settings. If you right-click within the Preview panel, you can choose between [Off] and [Collate].
Using the Printing Functions4-34 Printing a Document 4 Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet Multiple pages can be printed on one sheet of paper. 1For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista, display the [Device Settings] sheet and select [Auto] from [Spooling at Host].
Using the Printing Functions4-35 Printing a Document 4 2Display the [Page Setup] sheet, then set the [Page Layout] setting to the number of pages to print on each sheet of paper. The number of pages that can be selected is 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, or 16 (Pages per Sheet). 3The [Page Order] setting is displayed if the number of pages per sheet is 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16. Use this to select the order that pages are printed.
