    NOTE
    If you are using Windows Vista and the [User Account Control] dialog box appears, 
    click [Continue].
    3Check that [File and Printers Sharing for Microsoft Networks] 
    is selected, then click [OK].
    ■Printer Sharing Settings
    NOTE
    For Windows XP, the printer cannot be shared over a network using the default settings 
    (the settings immediately after installation).
    To use the printer sharing settings, you need to run [Network Setup Wizard] and enable 
    printer sharing.
    For more details, see the Windows online help.
    1Open the [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] folder.
    For Windows 2000: Select [Settings] ➞ [Printers] from the [Start] menu.
    For Windows XP Professional/Server 2003: Select [Printers and Faxes] from the 
    [Start] menu.
    For Windows XP Home Edition: Select [Control Panel] from the [Start] menu, then 
    click [Printers and Other Hardware] ➞ [Printers and Faxes].
    For Windows Vista: Select [Control Panel] from the [Start] menu, then click 
    [Printer].
    The [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] folder is displayed.

    2Right-click the icon for your printer, then select [Sharing] from 
    the pop-up menu.
    NOTE
    If you are using Windows Vista and [Change sharing options] appears, click 
    [Change sharing options].
    If the [User Account Control] dialog box appears, click [Continue].

    3Select [Share this printer]. Update the share name as 
    required.
    For  Windows 2000: Select [Shared as].
    For Windows Vista: Select the [Share this printer] check box.
    NOTE
    •You can also specify the sharing settings during the local installation.
    •Do not enter blank or special characters in [Shared name].

    4If the print server is running an operating system other than 
    Windows Vista and any client is using Windows 98/Me, click 
    [Additional Drivers].
    If the print server is running Windows Vista or no client is using Windows 98/Me, 
    click [OK]. The printer icon changes to the shared printer icon, and the printer 
    sharing settings are completed.
    The [Additional Drivers] dialog box is displayed.

    5Place a checkmark next to [Windows 95, 98 and Me], then 
    click [OK].
    For Windows 2000: Place a checkmark next to [Windows 95 or 98], and then 
    click [OK].
    For Windows Server 2003: Place a checkmark next to [Windows 95, Windows 98, 
    and Windows Millennium Edition], and then click [OK].
    6Insert the supplied LBP3000 User Software CD-ROM into 
    the CD-ROM drive.
    If the [Insert Disk] dialog box appears, click [OK].
    7Click [Browse]. If your CD-ROM drive is drive [D:], select 
    [D:\English\Win98_Me], and then click [OK].
    Windows will begin copying files.

    8Click [Close].
    The printer icon changes to the shared printer icon.
    IMPORTANT
    To clear the printer sharing settings, use the following procedures.
    -For an operating system other than Windows Vista: Select [Do not share this 
    printer] ([Not shared] for Windows 2000) in the [Sharing] sheet.
    -For Windows Vista: Clear the [Share this printer] check box in the [Sharing] sheet. 
    (If [Change sharing options] appears, click [Change sharing options] to display 
    the [User Account Control] dialog box, and then click [Continue].) 
    If you cleared the printer sharing settings with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or 
    another operating system equipped with Windows Firewall, you need to delete the 
    settings registered in Windows Firewall using the utility software. (See p. 7-11)
    ■Configuring Windows Firewall Settings
    If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 or another operating system equipped with 
    Windows Firewall as a print server, you need to configure Windows Firewall to unblock 
    communication with the client computers.
    Use the following procedure to check whether you configure Windows Firewall to unblock 
    this communication.

    •When you installed the CAPT software from CD-ROM Setup, a [Warning] dialog box was 
    displayed.
    -If you clicked [Yes], Windows Firewall was reconfigured to unblock communication with 
    the client computers.
    -If you clicked [No], however, Windows Firewall was configured to block communication 
    with the client computers, and you will need to use the following method to clear that 
    block.
    1.Display the [Windows Firewall] ([Windows Firewall Settings] for Windows Vista) 
    dialog box.
    -For Windows XP: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and then click 
    [Network and Internet Connections] ➞ [Windows Firewall].
    -For Windows Server 2003: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] ➞ 
    [Windows Firewall].
    -For Windows Vista: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and then click 
    [Allow a program through Windows Firewall]. (If the [User Account Control] dialog 
    box appears, click [Continue].)
    2.On the [Exceptions] sheet in the [Windows Firewall] ([Windows Firewall Settings] for 
    Windows Vista) dialog box, place a checkmark next to [Canon LBP3000 RPC 
    Server Process], and click the [OK] button.
    •If you installed the CAPT software by any method other than CD-ROM Setup, you need 
    to use the CAPT Windows Firewall Utility software to configure Windows Firewall to 
    unblock communication with the client computers.

    Installing the Client
    This section describes the procedure for installing the printer driver on the client 
    computers.
    There are two ways to install the printer driver: local installation and download 
    installation.
    ■Local Installation (See p. 3-62)
    Installing the printer driver using the supplied CD-ROM.
    ■Download and Install
    This installs the printer driver by downloading it from the print server, without needing to 
    use the supplied CD-ROM. There are two ways to download and install the driver:
    •Installing from the [Printers and Faxes] Folder or the [Printers] Folder (See p. 3-69)
    •Installing using [Windows Explorer] (See p. 3-73)
    IMPORTANT
    •If you are using Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista, be sure to log on as a user who is 
    a member of the Administrators group when starting up.
    •If the client computer is using Windows XP Service Pack 2 or another operating system 
    equipped with Windows Firewall, configure the following settings. If you do not make 
    these settings on the client computer, status information will not display correctly in the 
    Printer Status Window, and some of the printer functions may not operate correctly.
    1.Display the [Windows Firewall] ([Windows Firewall Settings] for Windows Vista) 
    dialog box.
    -For Windows XP: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and then click 
    [Network and Internet Connections] ➞ [Windows Firewall].
    -For Windows Server 2003: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] ➞ 
    [Windows Firewall].
    -For Windows Vista: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and then click 
    [Allow a program through Windows Firewall]. (If the [User Account Control] dialog 
    box appears, click [Continue].)

    2.On the [Exceptions] sheet in the [Windows Firewall] ([Windows Firewall Settings] 
    for Windows Vista) dialog box, place a checkmark next to [File and Printer Sharing] 
    then click [OK].
    NOTE
    •Clients can use either Windows 98/Me or Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista.
    •If your print server is Windows 98/Me, you cannot download and install on Windows 
    2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista.
    •If the print server is running Windows Vista, you cannot download and install the driver on 
    Windows 98/Me.
    •The screen shots shown in this section are taken from Windows XP Home Edition.
    Installing from CD-ROM Setup
    1Insert the supplied LBP3000 User Software CD-ROM into 
    the CD-ROM drive.
    If the CD-ROM is already in the drive, eject the CD-ROM and reinsert it into the 
    drive again.
    The CD-ROM Setup appears automatically.
    IMPORTANT
    •If you are using Windows Vista and the [AutoPlay] dialog box appears, click [Run 
    AUTORUN.EXE].
    •If CD-ROM Setup does not appear, display it using the following procedures. (The 
    CD-ROM drive name is indicated as D: in this manual. The CD-ROM drive name 
    may differ depending on the computer you are using.)
    -If you are using an operating system other than Windows Vista, select [Run] from 
    the [Start] menu, enter D:\English\MInst.exe, and then click [OK].

    -If you are using Windows Vista, enter D:\English\MInst.exe in [Start Search] 
    under the [Start] menu, and then press the [ENTER] key on your keyboard.
    NOTE
    If you are using Windows Vista and the [User Account Control] dialog box appears, 
    click [Allow].
    2Click [Easy Installation] or [Custom Installation].
    [Easy Installation] allows you to install the printer driver and the instruction 
    manuals simultaneously. If you do not install the manuals, select [Custom 
    Installation].
    3Click [Install].
