1-7 Before Using the Machine (1) Copy function keys [N on 1] key Reduces multiple-page documents automatically to copy them on one sheet of paper [Collate] key When making multiple copies, collates them in page order. [Enlarge/Reduce] key Specify a copy ratio. [2-sided] key (MF8350Cdn only) Specifi es the settings for 2-sided printing. [Frame Erase] key (MF8050Cn only) Specifi es the settings for frame erasing when copying. (2) [Image Quality] key/[Density] key Specifi es the image quality or density. (3) [Menu] key Specifi es or registers various settings. (4) [Status Monitor/Cancel] key Checks or cancels jobs. You can also check the status of the network and machine. (5) Mode switching keys Switches the mode to copy, fax, or scan. • • • • • (6) LCD Displays messages and operation status. Displays items, texts, and numbers when you are specifying settings. (7) Numeric keys/[*] key/[#] key [Numeric] keys Enter letters and numbers. [*] key Switches the entry mode of characters. 2-4 Document and Paper Handling Placing Documents on the Platen Glass 1 Open the feeder. 2 Place a document face down. 3 Align the document with the appropriate paper size marks. If your document does not match any of the paper size marks, align the center of your document with the arrow mark. 4 Close the feeder gently. The machine is ready to scan the document. When scanning is complete, remove the document from the platen glass. CAUTION Precautions when closing the feeder Be careful not to get your fingers caught. This may cause personal injury. Do not press down the feeder forcefully. This may damage the platen glass and cause personal injury. • • Loading Document in the Feeder 1 Spread the document guides a little wider than the actual document width. 2 Pull out the tray extension before loading the large size document. Pull out the tray extension when the document is hanging out of the document feeder tray. 3 Fan the document stack and even the edges. Thoroughly fan in small batches. Tap the edges on a flat surface a few times. Pl acing DocumentsThis section describes placing the documents on the platen glass or loading them in the feeder.
