281 Printing Images Printing (p.282) You can connect the camera directly to a printer and print out the images on the card. The camera is compatible with “ w PictBridge”, which is the standard for direct printing. Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) (p.291) DPOF (Digital Print Order Fo rmat) enables you to print images recorded on the card according to your printing instructions such as the image selection, quantity to print, etc. You can print multiple images in one batch or give the print order to a photofinisher. Specifying Images for a Photobook (p.295) You can specify images on th e card for printing in a photobook. COPY
282 The direct printing procedure can be performed entirely with the camera while you look at t he camera’s LCD monitor. 1Set the camera’s power switch to . 2Set up the printer. For details, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. 3Connect the Camera to the Printer. Use the interface cable provided with the camera. Connect the cable to the camera’s terminal with the cable plug’s < D> icon facing the front of the camera. X The image will appear, with the icon on the upper left of the screen to indicate that the camera is connected to a printer. wPictBridge Before using the printer, make sure it has a PictBridge connection port. Movies cannot be printed. The camera cannot be used with printers compatible only with CP Direct or Bubble Jet Direct. Do not use any interface cable other than the one provided. If there is a long beeping sound in st ep 5, it indicates a problem with the printer. Resolve the problem displa yed in the error message (p.290). Printing is not possible when shooting mode is set to or < G> in the mode, or when Multi Shot Noise Reduction is set. You can also print RAW images taken with this camera. If you use a battery pack to power the camera, ma ke sure it is fully charged. With a fully-charged battery pack, you can print for approx. 3 hr. 20 min. Before disconnecting the cable, first tu rn off the camera and printer. Hold the plug (not the cord) to pull out the cable. For direct printing, using AC Adapte r Kit ACK-E15 (sold separately) to power the camera is recommended. COPY

DefaultThe page layout will vary depending on the printer model or its settings. If the image’s aspect ratio is different from the printing paper’s aspect ratio, the image may be cropped significantl y when you print it as a border less print. If the image is cropped, it may look grai nier on the paper due to the fewer number of pixels. COPY
w Printing 286 4Set the printing effects (image optimization). Set them if necessary. If you do not need to set any printing effects, go to step 5. What is displayed on the screen differs depending on the printer. Select the option, then press < 0>. Select the desired printing effect, then press < 0>. If the < e> icon is displayed brightly next to < z>, you can also adjust the printing effect (p.288). * When you change the printing effects, changes are reflected in the image displayed on the upper left of the sc reen. Note that the printed image may look slightly different from the displayed imag e, which is only an approximation. This also applies to [Brightness] and [Adjust levels] on page 288. Printing Effect Description EOnThe image will be printed using the printer’s standard colors. The image’s Exif data is used to make automatic corrections. EOffNo automatic correction will be applied. EVividThe image will be printed with higher saturation to produce more vivid blues and greens. ENRImage noise is reduced before printing. 0 B/WPrints in black-and-wh ite with true blacks. 0 Cool tonePrints in black-and-white with cool, bluish blacks. 0 Warm tonePrints in black-and-white with warm, yellowish blacks. zNaturalPrints the image in the actual co lors and contrast. No automatic color adjustments are applied. z Natural MThe printing characteristics ar e the same as the “Natural” setting. However, this setting en ables finer printing adjustments than with “Natural”. EDefaultThe printing will differ dependin g on the printer. For details, refer to the printer’ s instruction manual. 287 w Printing 5Set the date and file number imprinting. Set them if necessary. Select < I>, then press . Set the print settings as desired, then press < 0>. 6Set the number of copies. Set it if necessary. Select , then press < 0>. Set the number of copies, then press . 7Start printing. Select [Print ], then press < 0>. The [ Default ] setting for printing effect s and other options are the printer’s own default settings as set by the printer’s manufacturer. Refer to the printer’s instruction ma nual to find out what the [Default] settings are. Depending on the im age’s file size and image-recording quality, it may take some time for the printing to start after you select [Print]. If image tilt correction (p.289) is appl ied, it may take longer to print the image. To stop the printing, press < 0> while [ Stop] is displayed, then select [ OK ]. If you execute [ Clear all camera settings ] (p.227), all the settings will revert to their defaults. COPY
w Printing 288 In step 4 on page 286, select the printing effect. When the < e> icon is displayed brightly next to < z>, you can press the < B > button. You can then adjust the printing effect. What can be adjusted or what is displayed will depend on the selection made in step 4. Brightness The image brightness can be adjusted. Adjust levels When you select [Manual], you can change the histogram’s distribution and adjust the image’s brightness and contrast. With the Adjust levels screen displayed, press the < B> button to change t he position of the . Press the < Y> keys to freely adjust the shadow level (0-127) or hi ghlight level (128-255). kBrightener Effective in backlit conditions that can make the subject’s face look dark. When [ On] is set, the face will be brightened for printing. Red-eye corr. Effective in flash images where t he subject has red eye. When [On] is set, the red eye will be corrected for printing. e Adjustment of Printing Effects The [kBrightener ] and [Red-eye corr. ] effects will not be reflected on the screen. When [Detail set.] is selected, you can adjust the [Contrast], [Saturation], [Color tone], and [Color balance]. To adjust the [Color balance], use the cross keys. B is for blue, A for amber, M for magenta, and G for green. The image’s color balance will be corrected towards the selected color. If you select [ Clear all], all the printing effect se ttings will be reverted to their defaults. COPY
289 w Printing You can crop the image and print only an enlarged version of the cropped portion, as if the image had been recomposed. Set the cropping right before printing. If you change the print settings after setting the cropping, you may have to set the cropping again before printing. 1On the print setting screen, select [Cropping]. 2Set the cropping frame size, pos ition, and aspect ratio. The image area within the cropping frame will be printed. The cropping frame’s aspect ratio can be changed with [ Paper settings]. Changing the Cropping Frame Size When you press the < u> or < Hy> button, the size of the cropping frame will change. The sm aller the cropping frame, the larger the image magnification will be for printing. Moving the Cropping Frame Press the cross keys to move the frame over the image vertically or horizontally. Move the cropping frame until it covers the desired image area. Rotating the Frame Pressing the < B> button will toggle the cropping frame between the vertical a nd horizontal orientations. This enables you to create a vertically oriented print from a horizontal image. Image Tilt Correction By turning the < 6> dial, you can adjust the image tilt angle up to ±10 degrees in 0.5-degree increm ents. When you adjust the image tilt, the < O> icon on the screen will turn blue. 3Press to exit the cropping. XThe print setting screen will reappear. w Printing 290 Depending on the printer, the cropped image area may not be printed as you specified. The smaller you make the cropping frame, the grainier the picture will look in the print. While cropping the image, look at th e camera’s LCD monitor. If you look at the image on a TV sc reen, the cropping frame may not be displayed accurately. Handling Printer ErrorsIf you resolve a printer error (no in k, no paper, etc.) and select [Continue] to resume printing but it doe s not resume, operate the bu ttons on the printer to resume printing. For details on resuming the printing, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. Error MessagesIf a problem occurs during printing, an error me ssage will appear on the camera’s LCD monitor. Press to stop printing. After fixing the problem, resume prin ting. For details on how to fix a printing problem, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. Paper Error Check whether the paper is pr operly loaded in the printer. Ink Error Check the printer’s ink leve l and the waste ink tank. Hardware Error Check for any printer problems ot her than paper and ink problems. File Error The selected image cannot be printed via PictBr idge. Images taken with a different camera or imag es edited with a computer may not be printable. COPY
