3 Menu Function Settings 212 Movie Shooting Cautions White < s> and Red < E> Internal Temperature Warning Icons If the camera’s internal temperatu re increases due to prolonged movie shooting or under a high am bient temperature, a white or red < E> icon will appear. The white < s> icon indicates that the image quality of still photos will deteriorate. You should stop still sh ooting and allow the camera’s internal temperature to cool before shooting again. Since movie image quality will hardly be affected, you can still shoot movies. The red icon indicates that movie shooting will soon be terminated automatically. If this happens, you will not be able to shoot again until the camera’s internal temperature decrea ses. Turn off the power and let the camera rest for a while. Shooting a movie at a high temperatur e for a prolonged period will cause the < s> or < E> icon to appear earlier. Wh en you are not shooting, turn off the camera. Recording and Image Quality If the attached lens has an Imag e Stabilizer and you set the Image Stabilizer (IS) switch to < 1>, the Image Stabiliz er will operate at all times even if you do no t press the shutter button halfway. The Image Stabilizer consumes ba ttery power and may sh orten the total movie shooting time or decrease the number of possible shots. If you use a tripod or if the Image Stabilizer is no t necessary, it is recommended to set the IS switch to < 2>. The camera’s built-in microphone will also pick up camera operation noise. Using a commercially-availabl e external microphone can prevent (or reduce) these noises from being recorded. Do not connect anything other than an external microphone to the camera’s external micr ophone IN terminal. If the brightness changes during aut oexposure movie shooting or if AF operates during movie shoot ing, that part may look momentarily still when you play the movie. In such cases, shoot movies with manual exposure. If there is a very bright light source in the pict ure, the bright area may appear black on the LCD monitor. The movie will be recorded in almost the same way you see it on the LCD monitor. In low light, noise or irregular colors may appear in the image. The movie will be recorded in al most the same way you se e it on the LCD monitor. COPY
213 Movie Shooting Cautions Recording and Image Quality If you use a card with a slow writing speed, a five-level indicator may appear on the right of the screen during movie shooting. It indicates how much data has not yet been written to the card (remaining ca pacity of the internal buffer memory). The slower the card, the faster the indicator will climb upward. If the indicator becomes full, movie shooting will stop automatically. If the card has a fast writing sp eed, the indicator will either not appear or the level (if disp layed) will hardly go upward. First, shoot a few test mo vies to see if the card can write fast enough. Still Photo Shooting During Movie Shooting Regarding the image quality of still ph otos, see “Image Quality” on page 178. Playback and TV connection If you connect the camera to a TV set (p.262 , 265) and shoot a movie, the TV will not output any sound during the shooting. However, the sound will be p roperly recorded. Indicator Do not hold the camera in the same posture for long periods of times. Even if the camera does not feel to o hot, prolonged contact with the same body part may cause skin redness, b listering or low-temperature contact burns. The use of a trip od is recommended for pe ople with circulation problems or very sensit ive skin, or when using the camera in very hot places. COPY
