This function reduces the noise generated in the image. Although noise
reduction is applied at all ISO speeds, it is particularly effective at high
ISO speeds. At low ISO speeds, the noise in the darker parts of the
image (shadow areas) is further reduc ed. Change the setting to suit the
    noise level.
    1Select [High ISO speed NR].
Under the [ z3] tab, select [ High ISO
    speed NR ], then press < 0>.
    2Set the level.
     Select the desired noise reduction
    level, then press < 0>.
X The setting screen closes and the
    menu will reappear.
[M : Multi Shot Noise Reduction]
This applies noise reduction with higher image quality than [ High].
For a single photo, four shots ar e taken continuously and aligned
and merged automatically in to a single JPEG image.
    3Take the picture.
The image will be recorded with noise
    reduction applied.
    3 Setting Noise ReductionN
    High ISO Speed Noise Reduction
With [ High] or [Multi Shot Noise Reduction ], the maximum burst for
continuous shooting wi ll greatly decrease.

    132
Noise reduction is possible with images exposed for 1 sec. or longer.
    1Select [Long exp. noise
    reduction].
Under the [ z3] tab, select [ Long
exp. noise reduction ], then press
    < 0 >.
    Long Exposure Noise Reduction
When [Multi Shot Noise Reduction] is Set
If you are handholding the camera, ke ep it steady to prevent camera
shake. If there is significant misali gnment in the image due to camera
shake, or if you are shoo ting a moving subject, the noise reduction effect
may be minimal. Using a tripod is recommended.
The image alignment may not function properly with repetitive patterns
(lattice, stripes, etc.) or flat, single-tone images.
Recording the image to the card will take longer than with normal
shooting. During the proc essing of the images, “BUSY” will be displayed
and you cannot take an other picture until the processing is completed.
1 +73 or 1 cannot be selected. AEB sh ooting and WB bracketing
cannot be used. [z 3: Long exp. noise reduction ] cannot be set. If any
of these has already be en selected or set, [Multi Shot Noise
    Reduction ] cannot be set.

Flash shooting is not possible. The AF-assi st beam will be emitted according to
the [5 4: Custom Fu nctions (C.Fn)]’s [4: AF-assist beam firing] setting. You cannot set [ Multi Shot Noise Reduction ] for bulb exposures.
If you turn off the power, change the shooting mode to a Basic Zone
mode, shoot a bulb exposure, or sh oot a movie, the setting will
automatically be changed to [Standard ].
[z 3: Dust Delete Data ] cannot be set.
Direct printing (p.2 82) is not possible.
If you play back or directly print a 1 +73 or 1 image with the camera,
the effect of the high ISO speed nois e reduction may look minimal. Check
the noise reduction effect or print noise-reduced images with Digital Photo
    Professional (provided software, p.366).

    3 Setting Noise Reduction N
    2Set the desired setting.
Select the desired setting, then press
    .
X The setting screen closes and the
    menu will reappear.
      [Auto]
For exposures of 1 sec. or longer, noise reduction is performed
automatically if noise typical of long exposures is detected. This
[Auto] setting is effective in most cases.
      [Enable]
Noise reduction is performed for all exposures of 1 sec. or longer.
The [ Enable ] setting can reduce noise that cannot be detected with
    the [Auto ] setting.
    3Take the picture.
The image will be recorded with noise
    reduction applied.
With [ Auto] and [ Enable ], the noise reduction process after the picture is
taken may take the same amount of time as that for the exposure. You
cannot take another picture until the noise reduction process is
    completed.
Images taken at ISO 16 00 or higher may look grainier with the [ Enable]
setting than with the [ Disable] or [Auto ] setting.
With [ Auto] and [ Enable ], if a long exposure is shot with the Live View
image displayed, “ BUSY” will be displayed during the noise reduction
process. The Live View display will no t appear until the noise reduction is
completed. (You cannot take another picture.)

Peripheral light fall-off is a phenomenon that makes the image corners
look darker due to the lens characteri stics. Color fringing along subject
outlines is called chromatic aberra tion. Both lens aberrations can be
corrected. RAW images can be corrected with Digital Photo
    Professional (provided software, p.366).
    1Select [Lens aberration
    correction].
Under the [ z1] tab, select [ Lens
    aberration correction ], then press

    attached lens.
      Select [Peripheral illumin. ], then
    press < 0>.
Select [Enable ], then press .
If [Correction data not available] is
    displayed, see “Lens Correction Data”
    on page 136.
    3Take the picture.
The image will be recorded with the
    peripheral illumination corrected.
3 Lens Peripheral Illumination / Chromatic Aberration Correction
    Peripheral Illumination Correction
Depending on shooting conditions, noise may appear on the image
    periphery.
The correction amount applied will be slightly lower than the maximum
correction amount settable with Di gital Photo Professional (provided
    software, p.366).
The higher the ISO speed, the lowe r the correction amount will be.

    chromatic aberration corrected.
    Chromatic Aberration Correction
With [ Enable ], the maximum burst for continuous shooting will greatly
    decrease.
If you play back a RAW image shot with the chromatic aberration
corrected, the image will be disp layed on the camera without the
chromatic aberration correction appl ied. Check the chromatic aberration
correction with Digital Photo Prof essional (provided software, p.366).

The camera already contains lens peripheral illumination correction
data and chromatic aberration correction data for approx. 25 lenses. If
you select [ Enable], the peripheral illumination correction and
chromatic aberration correction will be applied automatically for any
lens whose correction data is registered in the camera.
With EOS Utility (provided software), you can check which lenses have
their correction data registered in th e camera. You can also register the
correction data for unregistered lenses. For details, refer to the EOS
Utility Instruction Manual (p.368) on the Software Instruction Manual
    CD-ROM.
Notes for Peripheral I llumination Correction and Chromatic Aberration
    Correction
    Lens Correction Data
Peripheral illumination correction an d chromatic aberration correction
cannot be applied to JP EG images already taken.
When using a non-Canon lens, setting the corrections to [ Disable] is
recommended, even if [ Correction data available] is displayed.
If you use the magnified view during Live View shooting, the peripheral
illumination correction a nd chromatic aberration co rrection will not be
reflected in the image shown on the screen.
If the effect of the correction is not visible, magnify the image after
    shooting and check it again.
Corrections can be app lied even when an Extender or Life-size
    Converter is attached.
If the correction data for the attach ed lens is not registered to the
camera, the result will be the same as when the correction is set to
    [ Disable ].
If the lens does not have distance in formation, the correction amount will
    be lower.
