559 Troubleshooting Guide The continuous shooting speed for high-speed continuous shooting may decrease depending on the power source type, battery level, temperature, flicker reduction, Dual Pixel RAW shooting, Digital Lens Optimizer, shutter speed, aperture, subject conditions, brightness, AF operati on, lens, flash use, shooting function settings, etc. Fo r details, see pages 160-162. If you shoot something that has fine detail such as a field of grass, the file size will be larger, and the actual maximum burst may be lower than the number listed on page 171. If [Rec. separately] is set and different image-recording quality are set for the CF card (Card1) and SD card (Card2), the maximum burst for continuous shooting will decrease. Under [ z1: Lens aberration correction ], if [Digital Lens Optimizer ] is set to [Enable], the maximum burst for continuous shooting will greatly decrease. If [z 1: Dual Pixel RAW ] is set to [Enable] and the image- recording quality is 1, the maximum burst for continuous shooting will decrease. The maximum burst displayed in the viewfinder does not change when you change the card, even if it is a high-speed card. The maximum burst shown in the table on page 171 is based on Canon’s testing card. (The faster the card’s writing speed, the higher the actual maximum burst will be.) Therefore, the maximum burst displayed in the viewfinder may differ from the actual maximum burst. The continuous shooting speed is slow. The maximum burst during continuous shooting is lower. Even after I change the card, the maximum burst displayed for continuous shooting does not change.
Troubleshooting Guide 560 Set [ z1: Dual Pixel RAW ] to [Enable ], and set [ z1: Image quality ] to 1 or 1 +JPEG. If [z 3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [Enable], the settable ISO speed range will be ISO 200 - ISO 32000. Even if you set [ Range for stills ] to expand the setting range, you cannot select L (equivalent to ISO 50), H1 (equivalent to ISO 51200), or H2 (equivalent to ISO 102400). When [ z3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [ Disable] (p.206), you can set ISO 100/125/160, L, or H1/ H2. Set [ z2: Auto Lighting Optimizer ] to [Disable ] (p.201). When [ Low ], [Standard ], or [High] is set, even if you set a decreased exposure compensation or flash exposure compensation, the image may come out bright. See page 252 to set the exposure compensation. For flash shooting, exposure com pensation will not take effect. If [Digital Lens Optimizer ] under [z1: Lens aberration correction ] is set to [Enable], [Chromatic aberr corr ] and [ Diffraction correction ] will not be displayed. However, the [ Enable ] setting for both [ Chromatic aberr corr ] and [Diffraction correction ] will take effect for shooting. During movie shooting, [ Distortion correction], [Digital Lens Optimizer ] or [Diffraction correction ] will not be displayed. Dual Pixel RAW shooting is not possible. ISO 100 cannot be set. ISO speed expansion cannot be selected. Even if I set a decreased exposure compensation, the image comes out bright. I cannot set the exposure compensation when both manual exposure and ISO Auto are set. Not all the lens aberration correction options are displayed.
561 Troubleshooting Guide If [On:ContShtng ] is set, image review immediately after image capture or image playback is not possible during shooting (p.268). When the image-recording quality is set to 41 or 61 , the multiple-exposure image will be recorded in 1 quality (p.275). If you shoot at night when the background is dark, the shutter speed automatically becomes slow (slow-sync shooting) so that both the subject and background are properly exposed. To prevent a slow shutter speed, under [ z1: External Speedlite control ], set [Flash sync. speed in Av mode ] to [1/200-1/60sec. auto ] or [1/200 sec. (fixed) ] (p.290). Make sure the flash (or PC sync cord) is securely attached to the camera. If you use a non-Canon flash unit with Live View shooting, set [z 6: Silent LV shoot. ] to [Disable ] (p.312). If you use a flash unit other than an EX-series Speedlite, the flash will always be fired at full output (p.287). When the flash Custom Function setting for [ Flash metering mode ] is set to [ TTL flash metering ] (autoflash), the flash will always be fired at full output (p.294). The shot image is not displayed during multiple-exposure shooting. The multiple-exposure image is shot in 1 quality. When I use the < f> mode with flash, the shutter speed becomes slow. The flash does not fire. The flash always fires at full output.
Troubleshooting Guide 562 If flash exposure compensation is already set with the Speedlite, flash exposure compensation cannot be set with the camera. When the external Speedlite’s fl ash exposure compensation is canceled (set to 0), flash exposur e compensation can be set with the camera. Under [ z1: External Speedlite control ], set [Flash sync. speed in Av mode ] to [Auto ] (p.290). If you use flash, the shutter will make two release sounds each time you shoot (p.300). It indicates that the camera’s internal temperature is high. If the white < s> icon is displayed, the still photo’s image quality may deteriorate. If the red < E> icon is displayed, it indicates that the Live View shooting will soon stop automatically (p.331). If the image-recording quality is set to 41 or 61 , the shot images are not displayed during continuous shooting (p.299). Flash exposure compensation cannot be set. High-speed sync cannot be set in the < f> mode. The shutter makes two release sounds during Live View shooting. During Live View shooting, a white < s> or red < E> icon is displayed. Shot images are not displayed when continuous shooting is performed during Live View shooting.
563 Troubleshooting Guide It indicates that the camera’s internal temperature is high. If the red < E> icon is displayed, it indicate s that the movie shooting will soon stop automatically (p.391). If the card’s writing speed is slow, movie shooting may stop automatically. For cards that can record movies, see page 356. To find out the card’s writing speed, refer to the card manufacturer’s Web site. If you shoot a movie for 29 min. 59 sec. or shoot a High Frame Rate movie for 7 min. 29 sec., the movie shooting will stop automatically. If the shooting mode is < A>, < d>, < s>, < f >, or < F>, the ISO speed will be set automatically. In the < a> mode, you can freely set the ISO speed (p.341). If [z 3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [Enable], the settable ISO speed range will start from ISO 200. Even if you set [ Range for movies ] or [Range for H] for ISO speed expansion, you cannot select H, H1, or H2. When [ z3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [ Disable] (p.206), you can set ISO 100/125/160, or an expanded ISO speed. During HDR movie shooting, ex panded ISO speeds cannot be selected. During movie shooting, the red E icon is displayed. Movie shooting stops by itself. The ISO speed cannot be set for movie shooting. ISO 100 cannot be set or ISO speed expansion cannot be selected during movie shooting.
Troubleshooting Guide 564 For viewfinder shooting and Live View shooting, the ISO speed will be set according to the setting of [ Range for stills] under [ z 2: ISO speed settings ] (p.180). For movie shooting, the ISO speed will be set according to the setting of [ Range for movies] or [ Range for H ] under [ z2: ISO speed settings ] (p.379). If you change the shutter speed or aperture during movie shooting, the changes in the exposure may be recorded. Shooting a few test movies is recommended if you intend to perform zooming during movie s hooting. Zooming during movie shooting may result in record ing of changes in exposure or mechanical sound of the lens, or images may be out of focus. Flickering, horizontal stripes (noise ), or irregular exposures can be caused by fluorescent lighting, LE D lighting, or other light sources during movie shooting. Also, changes in the exposure (brightness) or color tone may be recorded. In the < s> or < a> mode, a slow shutter speed may reduce the problem. The problem may be more noticeable in time-lapse movie shooting. The manually set ISO speed changes when switching to movie shooting. The exposure changes during movie shooting. The image flickers or horizontal stripes appear during movie shooting.
565 Troubleshooting Guide If you move the camera to the left or right (panning) or shoot a moving subject, the image may look distorted. The problem may be more noticeable in time-lapse movie shooting. High Frame Rate movies do not record sound. For High Frame Rate movie shooting, if [ Free run] is set for [ Count up ] under [z5: Time code ] (p.365), the time code will not be appended. Also, if there is HDMI output, the time code will not be appended to the HDMI video output (p.367). For High Frame Rate movie shooting, it will count up by 4 sec. for every sec. in real time (p.358). Still photos cannot be taken during movie shooting. To take still photos, stop the movie shooting and take still photos using viewfinder shooting or Live View shooting. The subject looks distorted during movie shooting. The movie does not record the sound. The time code is not appended. The time code’s count is faster. I cannot take still photos during movie shooting.
Troubleshooting Guide 566 Set the < R> switch to the left (lock release, p.62). Check the [ 55: Multi function lock ] setting (p.90). Check if [ 52: Touch control ] is set to [Standard] or [Sensitive ] (p.72). Check the [ 83: Custom Controls ] setting (p.495). In the < A> mode, some menu tabs and options are not displayed. Set the shooting mode to < d>, < s>, < f >, or < F> (p.67). Under the [ 9] tab, [ Menu display ] is set to [Display from My Menu tab ] or [Display only My Menu tab ]. Set [Normal display ] (p.519). Operation Problems I cannot change the setting with the < 6> dial, < 5 > dial, < 9>, < p>, or < d>. Touch operation is not possible. A camera button or dial does not work as expected. Display Problems The menu screen shows fewer tabs and options. The display starts with [9] My Menu or the [9] tab alone is displayed.
567 Troubleshooting Guide Set [ z2: Color space ] to [sRGB ]. If [Adobe RGB ] is set, the first character will be an underscore (p.217). [5 1: File name ] is set to [*** + image size ]. Select the camera’s unique file name (preset code) or the file name registered under User setting 1 (p.220). If the card already contains recorded images, the image file number may not start from 0001 (p.223). Make sure the correct date and time are set (p.51). Check the time zone and daylight saving time (p.52, 53). The shooting date and time do not appear in the image. The date and time are recorded in the image data as shooting information. When printing, you can imprint the date and time in the picture, using the date and time recorded in the shooting information (p.471). The file name’s first character is an underscore (“_”). The fourth character in the file name changes. The file numbering does not start from 0001. The shooting date and time displayed are incorrect. The date and time are not in the image.
Troubleshooting Guide 568 If the number of images recorded on the card exceeds the number the camera can display, [ ###] will be displayed. In low temperatures, the display speed of the AF points may become slower due to the AF point display device’s (liquid crystal) characteristics. The display speed wi ll return to normal at room temperature. If the LCD monitor is dirty, use a soft cloth to clean it. The LCD monitor display may seem slightly slow in low temperatures or look black in hi gh temperatures. It will return to normal at room temperature. [5 1: Eye-Fi settings ] will appear only when an Eye-Fi card is inserted in the camera. If the Eye-Fi card has a write-protect switch set to the LOCK position, you will not be able to check the card’s connection status or dis able Eye-Fi transmission (p.532). [###] is displayed. In the viewfinder, the AF point display speed is slow. The LCD monitor does not display a clear image. [Eye-Fi settings] does not appear.
