179 i: Setting the ISO Speed for Still Photos N If the ISO speed is set to “A” (Auto), the actual ISO speed to be set will be displayed when you press the shutter button halfway. As indicated below, the ISO speed will be set automatically to suit the shooting mode. *1: The actual ISO speed range depends on the [ Minimum] and [Maximum ] settings set in [ Auto range]. *2: If fill-in flash will cause overexposur e, ISO 100 or a higher ISO will be set.(Except in the and < F> modes.) *3: In the < d> mode, if you use bounce flash with an external Speedlite, ISO 400 - ISO 1600 will be set automatically. You can set the minimum limit within L (equivalent to ISO 50) to H1 (equivalent to ISO 51200), and the maximum limit within ISO 100 to H2 (equivalent to ISO 102400). 1Select [ISO speed settings]. Under the [ z2] tab, select [ ISO speed settings ], then press . 2Select [Range for stills]. 3Set the minimum limit. Select the minimum limit box, then press < 0>. You can set the minimum limit within ISO 100 - ISO 25600, and the maximum limit within ISO 200 - ISO 32000 in whole-stop increments. 1Select [Auto range]. 2Set the minimum limit. Select the minimum limit box, then press < 0>. Select the ISO speed, then press . 3Set the maxi mum limit. Select the maximum limit box, then press < 0>. i: Setting the ISO Speed for Still Photos N 182 You can set the minimum shutter speed so that the shutter speed set automatically will not be too slow when ISO Auto is set. This is effective in the < d> and < f> modes when you use a wide- angle lens to shoot a moving subjec t or when you use a telephoto lens. It helps to reduce camera shake and blurred subjects. 1Select [Min. shutter spd.]. 2Set the desired minimum shutter speed. Select [ Auto] or [Manual ]. If you select [ Auto], turn the < 6> dial to set the desired speed, slower or faster compared to the standard speed, then press < 0>. If you select [ Manual], turn the < 6> dial to select the shutter speed, then press < 0>. 3 Setting the Minimum S hutter Speed for ISO Auto Automatically set Manually set If a correct exposure cannot be obtained with the maximum ISO speed limit set with [ Auto range], a shutter speed slower than the [ Min. shutter spd. ] will be set to obtain the standard exposure. This function will not be applied to flash and movie shooting. When [ Auto: 0 ] is set, the minimum shutter speed will be the reciprocal of the lens focal length. A single step from [ Slower] to [Faster ] is equivalent to a single shutter speed stop.
183 By selecting a Picture Style, you can obtain image characteristics matching your photographic ex pression or the subject. In the < A> mode, the Picture Style is set automatically to [ D] (Auto). 1Press the < b> button. 2Select [ A]. XThe Picture Style selection screen will appear. 3Select a Picture Style. XThe Picture Style will be set and the camera will be ready to shoot. A Selecting a Picture Style N You can also set this with the [ z3: Picture Style ] screen.
A Selecting a Picture Style N 184 D Auto The color tone will be adjusted autom atically to suit the scene. The colors will look vivid for bl ue skies, greenery and sunsets, particularly in nature, outdoor and sunset scenes. P Standard The image looks vivid, sharp, and crisp. This is a general-purpose Picture Style suitable for most scenes. Q Portrait For nice skin tones. The image l ooks softer. Suited for close-up portraits. By changing the [ Color tone] (p.188), you can adjust the skin tone. R Landscape For vivid blues and greens, and very sharp and crisp images. Effective for impressive landscapes. u Fine Detail Suited for detailed outline and fine te xture description of the subject. The colors will be slightly vivid. S Neutral Suited for processing the image with a computer. For natural colors and subdued images with modest brightness and color saturation. Picture Style Characteristics If the desired color tone is not obtained with [ Auto], use another Picture St yle.
185 A Selecting a Picture Style N U Faithful Suited for processing the image with a computer. The color of a subject that is captured in sunlight at a color temperature of 5200K will be adjusted to match the subject’s colorimetrical color. For subdued images with modest bri ghtness and color saturation. V Monochrome Creates black-and-white images. W User Def. 1-3 You can register a basic style such as [ Portrait], [Landscape ], a Picture Style file, etc. and adjust it as desired (p.190). Any User Defined Picture Style that is not se t will have the same settings as the default setting of the [ Standard] Picture Style. Black-and-white images shot in JPEG cannot be turned into color. Be careful not to leave the [ Monochrome] setting on when you want to shoot photos in color again. You can set the camera to display < z> in the viewfinder and on the LCD panel for when [ Monochrome] is set (p.489).
A Selecting a Picture Style N 186 The Picture Style selection screen has icons for [ Strength], [Fineness ], or [ Threshold ] for [Sharpness ] as well as [ Contrast], and other parameters. The numerals indicate the values for these parameters set for the respective Picture Style. Symbols Symbols gSharpness AStrength B Fineness C Threshold h Contrast i Saturation j Color tone k Filter effect (Monochrome) l Toning effect (Monochrome) During movie shooting, “ * ” will be displayed for both [ Fineness] and [ Threshold ] for [Sharpness ]. [Fineness ] and [Threshold ] will not be applied to movies.
187 You can customize the Picture Styles. You can change or adjust the parameter settings of Picture Styles such as [ Strength], [Fineness ], or [ Threshold ] for [Sharpness ] as well as [ Contrast] and other parameters from the default settings. To see the resulting effects, take test shots. To customize [ Monochrome], see page 189. 1Press the button. 2Select [ A]. XThe Picture Style selection screen will appear. 3Select a Picture Style. Select a Picture Style, then press button. 4Select a parameter. Select the parameter (such as [Strength ] of [Sharpness ]) to be set, then press < 0>. The Picture Style selection screen will reappear. X The value of parameter settings different from the default will be displayed in blue. *1: Indicates the fineness of the outlines to be emphasized. The smaller the number, the finer the outlines that can be emphasized. *2: Sets how much the outline is emphasized based on the difference in contrast between the subject and the surrounding area. The smaller the number, the more the outline will be emphasized when the contrast difference is low. However, noise tends to be more noticeable when the number is smaller. By selecting [ Default set.] in step 4, you can revert the parameter settings of the respective Picture Style to their defaults. To shoot with the Picture Style you adjusted, first select the adjusted Picture Style, then shoot.
