X When focus is achieved, the AF point will turn green and the beeper will sound. X If focus is not achieved, the area frame will turn orange. 4Take the picture. Check the focus and exposure, then press the shutter button completely to take the picture (p.298). If the camera does not focus the desired target subject with automatic selection, switch the AF method to zone selection or [ FlexiZone - Single ] (p.321) and refocus. With Live View shooting, the number of AF points will differ depending on the [ z5: Aspect ratio ] setting. When the aspect ratio is [ 3:2], [4:3 ], or [ 16:9 ], there will be 63 AF points and 9 zones. For [ 1:1], 49 AF points and 9 zones. For movie shooting, the number of AF points and zones will differ depending on the [ Movie recording size ] setting. With Lw shooting, there will be 63 AF points and 9 zones. For H shooting, 15 AF points and 3 zones.
321 Focusing with AF (AF Method) The camera focuses with a single AF point. This is effective when you want to focus on a particular subject. 1Display the Live View image. Press the < 0> button. X The Live View image will appear on the LCD monitor. X The AF point < > will appear. If [Movie servo AF ] is set to [ Enable ], the AF point will be displayed larger. 2Move the AF point. 323 Focusing with AF (AF Method) AF Operation Even when focus is achieved, pre ssing the shutter button halfway will focus again. The image brightness may change during and after the AF operation. Depending on the subject and shooting conditions, it may take longer to focus or the conti nuous shooting speed may decrease. If the light source changes while the Live View image is displayed, the screen may flicker and focusing may be difficult. If this happens, exit Live View shooting and perform AF under the actual light source under which you are shooting. Notes for AF If you cannot achieve focus with AF, set the lens’s focus mode switch to and focus manually (p.329). If you shoot the subject at the peripher y and it is slightly out of focus, recompose to move the subject (and AF point or zone) toward the screen center, focus again, then take the picture. The external Speedlite will not emit the AF-assist beam. However, if an EX-series Speedlite (sold separately) equipped with an LED light is used, the LED light will turn on for AF-assist when necessary. With certain lenses, it may take more time to achieve focus with autofocus, or accurate focusing may not be achieved.
Focusing with AF (AF Method) 324 Shooting Conditions that Make Focusing Difficult Subject with low-contrast such as the blue sky, solid-color flat surfaces or when highlight or shadow details are clipped. Subjects in low light. Stripes and other patterns where there is contrast only in the horizontal direction. Subjects with repetitive patterns (Example: Skyscraper windows, computer keyboards, etc.). Fine lines and subject outlines. Under a light source whose brightness, color, or pattern keeps changing. Night scenes or points of light. The image flickers under fl uorescent or LED lighting. Extremely small subjects. Subjects at the edge of the picture. Strongly backlit or reflective subj ects (Example: Car with a highly reflective body, etc.). Near and distant subjects covered by an AF point (Example: Animal in a cage, etc.). Subjects that keep moving within t he AF point and will not stay still due to camera shake or subject blur. Performing AF when the subject is very far out of focus. Soft focus effect is applied with a soft focus lens. A special effect filter is used. Noise (dots of light, banding, etc.) appears on the screen during AF.
325 Focusing with AF (AF Method) In the [FlexiZone - Multi ] and [ FlexiZone - Single ] modes, either press the < u> button or tap on [ d] displayed on the bottom right of the screen. You can magnify the image by approx. 5x or 10x and check the focus. Magnified view is not possible with [u+Tracking]. To move the AF point or select a zone, operate < 9> or tap on the spot you want to magnify. Either press the < u> button or tap on [ d] to magnify the image. Each time you press the < u> button or tap on [ d], the magnification ratio changes. When [ FlexiZone - Multi ] is set, the image will be magnified at the center of the zone frame (or image center with automatic selection). When [ FlexiZone - Single ] is set, the image will be magnified at the AF point. At 100% (approx. 1x) magnification, operate < 9> or tap on the screen to move the magnifying frame. Pressing < 9> or < 0> will return the magnifying frame to the screen center. Either press the < u> button or tap on [ d] to magnify the area covered by the magnifying frame. When the image is magnified by ap prox. 5x or 10x, you can change the magnified area by operating < 9> or tapping on the triangle on the screen top, bottom, left, or right. When you press the shutter button halfway, the normal view will return for [ FlexiZone - Multi ]. For [FlexiZone - Single ], AF will proceed with the magnified view. With Servo AF and magnified view, pressing the shutter button halfway will return to the normal view for focusing. Magnified View
Focusing with AF (AF Method) 326 If focusing is difficult in the magnified view, return to the normal view and perform AF. If you perform AF in the normal view and then the view is magnified, accurate focus may not be achieved. AF speed differs between normal view and magnified view. When in magnified view, Movie Servo AF (p.380) will not work. During magnified view, achieving fo cus becomes more difficult due to camera shake. Using a tripod is recommended.
327 Just by tapping on the LCD monitor screen, you can focus and take the picture automatically. 1Display the Live View image. Press the < 0> button. X On the point you tap, the camera will focus (Touch AF) with the AF method that was set (p.316-322). X When [ x] is set, the AF point turns green when focus is achieved, then the picture is taken automatically. X If focus is not achieved, the AF point turns orange and the picture cannot be taken. Tap on the face or subject on the screen again. x Shooting with the Touch Shutter
x Shooting with the Touch Shutter 328 Even if you set the drive mode to < o> or < i>, the camera will still shoot in single shooting mode. Even if [ AF operation ] is set to [Server AF ], tapping on the screen will focus on the image with [ One-Shot AF]. Tapping on the screen in magnified view will not focus or take the picture. In the < A> mode, if [ FlexiZone - Multi ] or [yTouch shutter: Disable ] is set, focusing cannot be performed by tapping on the screen. If you shoot by tapping on the screen with [ z1: Image review ] set to [ Hold ], you can press the shutter butto n halfway to take the next shot. Note that under [ 83: Custom Controls ], if [V Shutter butt. half- press ] is set to [ Metering start ] or [AE lock (while button pressed) ], the picture will be taken without performing AF. If you use [ 83: Custom Controls ] to assign a button with [ ONE SHOT zAI SERVO/SERVO ] or the function that activates the metering timer (p.495), touch shutter shooting cannot be performed when you hold down the respective button. You can also set the touch shutter with [ z5: Touch Shutter ] (the [z3] tab in < A> mode). To shoot with bulb exposure, tap on t he screen twice. The first tap on the screen will start the bulb exposure. Tapping it again will stop the bulb exposure. Be careful not to shake the camera when tapping on the screen.
