108 How to resetC aPress Menu, 1, 8. 18.Reset 1.Network 2.All Settings Selectabor OK bPress a or b to choose 1.Network or 2.All Settings. Press OK. cPress a or b to choose 1.Reset or 2.Exit. Press OK. dIf you chose 1.Reset in step c, you will asked to reboot the machine. Press a or b to choose 1.Yes or 2.No. Press OK. If you choose 1.Yes, the machine will begin the Restart. Note You can also reset the Network settings by pressing Menu, 5, 0. Packing and shipping the machine C CAUTION Make sure that the machine has fully cooled down by leaving it disconnected from the power for at least 30 minutes before packing. When you transport the machine, use the packing materials that came with your machine. If you do not pack the machine properly, you could void your warranty. The machine should be adequately insured with the carrier. aTurn off the machine’s power switch. bUnplug all the cables and AC power cord from the machine. cPush the Scanner Lock Lever down to lock the scanner. This lever is located on the left of the scanner glass. IMPORTANT Damage caused to your machine by failure to lock the scanner before packing and shipping may void your warranty. dPress the front cover release button and open the front cover. eTake out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. Leave the toner cartridge installed in the drum unit.
Troubleshooting and routine maintenance 109 C fPut the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly into a plastic bag and seal the bag. gClose the front cover. hPut the styrofoam piece marked “FRONT” into the original carton (1). Pack the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly (2) and put it in as shown below (3). Wrap the machine in the plastic bag and put it in the original carton (4). Put the printed material behind the machine (5). iPut the two styrofoam pieces into the carton matching. Match the front of the machine to the “FRONT” mark on one of the styrofoam pieces, and the back of the machine to the “REAR” mark on the other styrofoam piece (6). Put the AC power cord and printed materials in the original carton as shown below (7). Note If you are returning your machine to Brother as part of the Exchange Service, pack only the machine. Keep all separate parts, including the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, and printed materials to use with your ‘Exchange’ machine. jClose the carton and tape it shut.
110 D On-screen programming D Your machine has been designed to be easy to use. The LCD provides on-screen programming using the menu keys. We have created step by step on-screen instructions to help you program your machine. Simply follow the steps as they guide you through the menu selections and programming options. Menu tableD You can program your machine by using the Menu table on page 112. These pages list the menu selections and options. Press Menu followed by the menu numbers to program your machine. For example, to set Beeper volume to Low: aPress Menu, 1, 2. bPress a or b to choose Low. cPressOK. Memory storageD Your menu settings are stored permanently, and in the event of a power failure will not be lost. Temporary settings (for example, Contrast) will be lost. Menu keysD Menu and featuresD Access the menu. Go to the next menu level. Accept an option. Exit the menu by pressing repeatedly. Go back to the previous menu level. Scroll through the current menu level. Go back to the previous menu level or forward to the next menu level. Exit the menu.

You can also scroll through each menu level by pressing a or b for the direction you want. cPressOK when the option you want appears on the LCD. The LCD will then show the next menu level. dPress a or b to scroll to your next menu selection. ePressOK. When you have finished setting an option, the LCD will show Accepted. fPressStop/Exit to exit Menu mode.
