Aboutsmartcards You can use a smart card and the password for your BlackBerry device or work space to unlock your device. You can use smart card certificates to send S/MIME-protected messages and authenticate with your organizationhs VPN. Smart cards store certificates and private keys. You can import certificates from a smart card to your device using an external smart card reader or a microSD smart card. Private key operations such as signing and decryption use the smart card. Public key operations such as verification and encryption use the public certificates on your device. Usetwo-factorauthentication Two-factor authentication lets you use a smart card and the password for your BlackBerry device or work space to unlock your device. The Smart Password Entry feature is designed to make it easier for you to enter your passwords on your device. Your device can remember the format of the password you type in a password field and, if your password is numeric, the device will automatically set the number lock so that you donht have to press the Alt key to enter your password. Also, if the password for your device or work space and the password for your smart card are the same, your device can enter the password for your smart card when you type the password for your device or work space. You might need to turn on NFC or Bluetooth on your device, depending on the type of smart card you use. 1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. 2. Tap Settings > SecurityandPrivacy > DevicePassword > AuthenticatorSettings . 3. To set your device to use a smart card to unlock your device or your work space, in the SmartCard UserAuthenticator drop-down list, tap Device or Work . 4. From the BlackBerry Protect website, you can: t Lock your device and change your device password t Add a message to the home screen of your device t View the location of your device on a map t Delete all of the data on your device t Flag your device as stolen If your device is not connected to the wireless network, or if the data services are turned off, you should still try to lock your device and delete your data by using the BlackBerry Protect website. The next time your device connects to a wireless network, or data services are turned on, your device is designed to lock and to wipe all the data. If you donht have BlackBerry Protect set up on your device, contact your service provider or your administrator and report your device as lost or stolen. Your service provider or administrator has the ability to remotely lock your device and delete your data. If you suspect your device was stolen and you locate your device by using the BlackBerry Protect website, contact your local law enforcement agency to retrieve your device. BlackBerryProtectFindingandprotectingalostdevice BlackBerry Protect includes features designed to help you find your BlackBerry device and help protect the data on your device if your device is ever lost or stolen. You can turn on BlackBerry Protect when you first set up your device, or later in your device settings. You can manage up to seven devices from your BlackBerry Protect account. After you turn on BlackBerry Protect, visit http://protect.blackberry.com and sign in with your BlackBerry ID. On the BlackBerry Protect website, you can view the current location of your device on a map, make it ring (even if iths in silent mode), or display a custom message on your locked device to provide instructions about how to contact you. If your device is stolen, you can remotely lock it, change the password, or delete all of the data from your device. When you flag your device as stolen and delete all of the data from your device by using the BlackBerry Protect website, BlackBerry Protect remains enabled on your lost or stolen device. If someone finds your device, that person canht set it up without knowing your BlackBerry ID. If you add a work email account to your device, your administrator might disable BlackBerry Protect, or the ability to remotely change your password or view the location of your device. Aboutanti-theftprotection When you turn on BlackBerry Protect, anti-theft protection is turned on. Someone else canht do the following without knowing your BlackBerry ID: t Turn off BlackBerry Protect. t Delete the data on your device by using the Security Wipe feature on the Settings menu. t Set up your device to use after wiping your device by incorrectly entering a password 10 times. When BlackBerry Protect is on, if someone tries to set up your device with a different BlackBerry ID, the device becomes unusable. You can turn off the anti-theft feature by turning off BlackBerry Protect on your device. To turn off BlackBerry Protect, you must enter the password for your BlackBerry ID. SetupBlackBerryProtectonyourdevice Your BlackBerry ID username must be a valid email address. To use BlackBerry Protect, your BlackBerry device must be connected to a wireless network. 1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. 2. Tap Settings > BlackBerryProtect . 3. Turn on the BlackBerryProtect switch. 4. If prompted, sign in with your BlackBerry ID. 5.If prompted, confirm that your BlackBerry ID username is a valid email address. 6. To be able to view the current location of your device on a map, tap LocationServices. Turn on the LocationServices switch. To use the BlackBerry Protect features, go to http://protect.blackberry.com and sign in with your BlackBerry ID. To turn off BlackBerry Protect, on your device, turn off the BlackBerry Protect switch. Enter the password for your BlackBerry ID. Tap Verify. Troubleshooting:BlackBerryProtect IcanhtturnonBlackBerryProtect t To turn on BlackBerry Protect, you must sign in with a valid BlackBerry ID. t If your BlackBerry device is associated with an Enterprise Mobility Management solution from BlackBerry, this feature might be turned off by your administrator. To learn about how your device can be protected against loss or theft, contact your administrator. Wipingyourdevicetodeleteyourdevicedata Before you switch to a new device or give away your current BlackBerry device, you should wipe it. Asecurity wipe is designed to permanently delete all of the data on your device so it canht be recovered. This data includes email accounts, downloaded apps, media files, documents, browser bookmarks, and settings. A security wipe is also designed to turn off BlackBerry Protect so that another person can set up the device. If you have the BlackBerry Protect anti-theft feature turned on, to complete the security wipe, you must enter your BlackBerry ID. Wipeyourdevice Before you wipe your BlackBerry device, consider backing up your data on a computer using BlackBerry Link. To download the latest version of BlackBerry Link to your computer, visit www.blackberry.com/ BlackBerryLink . If you plan to give away or recycle your device, remember to also remove your SIM card and media card. Note: If you have data encryption turned on, the process for deleting your device data can take up to an hour to complete. You cant stop the process after you start it. If you reset your device, the process restarts after the device restarts. 1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. 2. Tap Settings > SecurityandPrivacy > SecurityWipe . 3. t Type blackbHrry . Tap DeleteData . When the security wipe is completed, your device turns off automatically. To turn on your device, press the Power/Lock key. When the security wipe is completed, BlackBerry Protect is also turned off. To turn on BlackBerry Protect, tap Settings > BlackBerryProtect . Securitysettings You can set and change the security settings for applications on your BlackBerry device, and set up parental controls to restrict or limit access to features and content. You can use a smart card, and import certificates from your computer to increase the security of data on your device. And if you need to permanently delete all data from your device, you can wipe it. Settingsecuritypermissionsforapps BlackBerry 10 OS includes application permissions that are designed to let you control the informationand features that an application can access on your BlackBerry device. For example, you can control whether an app can access your email, contacts, pictures, or the location of your device. Keep in mind that some applications require specific permissions to work. You can also help safeguard your device by downloading apps only from trusted sources, such as the BlackBerry World storefront. When you open an app for the first time, your device might display a list of the files and features that the app wants to access. If something doesnht seem right to you, you can reject the apphs request to access an item. For example, you might download a game that requests access to your messages, which might make sense if the game includes a feature to share your game score. However, if you arenht comfortable with the game having the ability to compose and view your email messages, you can turn off access to messages or delete the app. You can view or change permissions for most apps in your device settings. For some apps, when you install the app, you are prompted to accept or decline all of the requested permissions. If you decline, the prompt will appear again the first time you open the app. You canht change the application permissions later unless you delete and reinstall the app. Changeorviewapppermissions For some apps, if you turn off permissions, the app might not work as you expect. If an app isnt workingas you expect it to, consider turning on some or all of the app permissions. The Run When Minimized application permission setting lets an app continue performing tasks after you minimize the app on your BlackBerry device.To help extend the life of your battery, consider turning off the Run When Minimized permission for apps on your device. 1. Restart your device for the change to take effect. AboutSSL/TLSsecuritylevels Most apps that you download onto your BlackBerry device and most of the websites that you visit usingthe BlackBerry Browser work properly using the default SSL/TLS security level. If you have problems using an app or viewing a website, you can change the SSL/TLS security level to low. A low security level allows protocols with known vulnerabilities to run on your device. This might be helpful if you are trying to access a legacy system that uses older protocols. Changing your SSL/TLS security level to high is designed to allow apps and websites that use high security connection protocols to run on your device. When you use the high security level, some apps and websites that use older protocols might not work on your device. Changethesecuritylevelforprotocolsusedbyappsandwebsites 1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. 2. Tap Settings > SecurityandPrivacy > SSL/TLS . 3. In the SSL/TLS drop-down list, tap a security level. AboutBlackBerryGuardian Feel safe and secure when you download apps and games from BlackBerry World with BlackBerry Guardian. BlackBerry Guardian evaluates all apps and games in BlackBerry World before theyhre made available for downloading. BlackBerry Guardian is designed to protect you from downloading apps and games that might include malicious software or privacy concerns. The BlackBerry Guardian icon in the BlackBerry World storefront indicates that the app or game has been evaluated for malicious software or privacy concerns. BlackBerry Guardian also incorporates technology from software security leader Trend Micro. BlackBerry Guardian is constantly evolving to help identify the most advanced forms of malicious software and privacy concerns. If malicious software is discovered in an app or game after iths available, the app or game is removed from BlackBerry World. UsingParentalControls Parental Controls are designed to give you more control over how a BlackBerry device can be used and contacted. You can turn off access to certain apps, features, and content. Parental Controls settings are protected with a password, making them difficult to change or turn offwithout your knowledge. You can set your device so that the Parental Controls password is required to add an email or social networking account, or to purchase an app from the BlackBerry World storefront. Note: If BlackBerry Balance technology is turned on, the Parental Controls feature is not available. Restrictorlimitaccesstofeaturesandcontent 1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. 2. Tap Settings > SecurityandPrivacy > ParentalControls . 3. Turn on the ParentalControls switch. 4. Enter the Parental Controls password. 5. Change the options. Importacertificatefromyourcomputer 1. Do one of the following: t To import the certificate using a USB connection, connect your BlackBerry device to your computer using a USB cable. If necessary, on your computer, enter your device password. t To import the certificate using a Wi-Fi connection, on your device, swipe down from the top of the home screen. Tap Settings > StorageandAccess . Turn on the AccessusingWi-Fi switch. Type a storage access password. Tap IdentificationonNetwork and make note of the Username . 2. On your device, on the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. 3. Tap Settings > About . 4. In the Category drop-down list, tap Network. 5. In the Wi-Fi or USB section, make note of the IPv4address. 6. On your computer, navigate to and copy a certificate file. t If your computer uses a Windows operating system, in a Run command, type the IP address in the following format: \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. t If your computer uses a Mac operating system, select Go > ConnecttoServer . Type the IP address in the following format: smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. 7. Do one of the following: t If your computer uses a Windows operating system, open the media=downloads folder. If necessary, enter the username and storage access password. t If your computer uses a Mac operating system, open the media/downloads folder. If necessary, enter the username and storage access password. 8. Paste the certificate into the media=downloads or media/downloads folder. 9. 10.Follow the instructions on the screen. PasswordKeeper You can use the Password Keeper app to store all your passwords, usernames, and security questions in one place. If you want a password that is difficult to guess, you can also use Password Keeper to generate random passwords that contain numbers, letters, and symbols. Password Keeper is designed to encrypt your passwords to protect them. When you enter yourpassword for the Password Keeper app, the passwords that you store in the app are decrypted so you can see them. Transferpasswordrecords To transfer password records, you must first back up the password data as part of the backup file during the device switch process, or export the password records to a backup file. If you saved the backup file to a media card, insert the media card into your new BlackBerry device. If you didnht save the backup file to a media card, you can use BlackBerry Link to transfer the records. 1. In the Password Keeper app, swipe down from the top of the screen. 2. Tap > ImportPasswords . 3. Complete the instructions on the screen. Storepasswordrecordsinthecloud If you store password records in the cloud, you donht need to transfer records when you switch BlackBerry devices. When you sign in to your new device using your BlackBerry ID and the same Password Keeper password that you used on your old device, the records appear in the Password Keeper app. 1. In the Password Keeper app, swipe down from the top of the screen. 2. Tap . 3. Turn on the CloudSynchronization switch. To delete password records stored in the cloud, tap DeleteCloudRecords. Tip: For an answer thaths more difficult to guess, Password Keeper can generate a random answer for you. 1. In the Password Keeper app, add a new record or select an existing record. Tap . 2.
