156 QWERTY Action Choose how the phone reacts when you open the QWERTY keyboard and begin entering text at the Home screen.1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ QWERTY Action. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight a launch action, then press the Center Select Key OK. Options include: Dialer Screen: Open the Dialer to enter a number to call or send a message. : Open Contacts to find a contact. New Message: Create a new message. Phone Search: Launch Phone Search to find items on your phone. : Launch Notepad to create a new note. Let Me Choose: Display icons for Contacts, New Message, Phone Search, and Notepad, so you can choose. Location Detection Choose whether your phone’s GPS (Global Positioning System) location is available to the network at all times, or only when you’ve dialed an Emergency Number, such as 911. Note: Location service is required by some applications on your phone, and is only available on the Verizon Wireless network. It is not available when roaming. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ Location Detection. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight a setting, then press the Center Select Key SET: : GPS location is on wherever the feature is available. Only: GPS location setting turns on only when you dial 911.

From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ Current Country. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight a country, then press the Center Select Key SET. Security Lock your phone, set restrictio ns, and other security options. Important! Access to all Security settings requires the phone lock code. By default the Lock Code is the last four digits of your phone number. For security reasons, your phone does not display lock codes. If you change the lock code, be sure to record the new code for future reference. Edit Codes Set a new Phone Only Lock Code (for locking and unlocking the phone) or Calls & Services Lock Code (for restricting access to calls and services). 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ Security. 2. Enter the Phone Only Lock Code at the prompt. The default lock code is the last four digits of your phone number. 3. Choose Edit Codes, then use the Directional Key to highlight a code, then press the Center Select Key OK : Phone Only: Enter a new lock code at the prompt, then enter the new code again to confirm the change. Calls & Services: Enter a new lock code at the prompt, then enter the new code again to confirm the change.

Use the Directional Key to highlight Location Setting to control the Location Detection setting, then press the Center Select Key OK: Unlock Setting: Changes are permitted to the Location Detection setting with no restrictions. : You must enter the Calls and Service Code to make changes to the Location Detection setting. 6. Use the Directional Key to highlight Calls to set restrictions on calls, then press the Center Select Key OK: Incoming Calls: Choose Allow All to permit all incoming calls. Choose Contacts Only to permit only calls from numbers saved in Contacts. Choose Block All to prevent all incoming calls. Outgoing Calls: Choose Allow All to allow dialing of any phone number. Choose Contacts Only to permit dialing calls to numbers saved in Contacts. Choose Block All to prevent all dialing. 7. Use the Directional Key to highlight Messages to set restrictions for messages, then press the Center Select Key OK: Incoming Messages: Choose Allow All to permit all incoming messages. Choose Block All to prevent all incoming messages. Outgoing Messages: Choose Allow All to permit sending of all messages. Choose Block All to prevent sending of all messages.
Settings 159 Phone Lock Setting Set the locking behavior of your phone. When the phone is locked, you must enter a lock code to use it, except when dialing emergency numbers or accessing ICE information. For more information about see “In Case of Emergency” on page 56. Note: Phone Lock is different from the Keypad Lock. For more information about keypad locking, see “Keyguard Settings” on page 140. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ Security. 2. Enter the Phone Only Lock Code at the prompt. The default lock code is the last four digits of your phone number, or you can set a custom lock code under Phone Settings ➔ Security ➔ Edit Codes. 3. Choose Phone Lock Setting, then use the Directional Key to highlight a setting and press the Center Select Key OK: : The phone is unlocked at all times. On Power Up: The phone locks when you power it on. You can make emergency calls, but must enter a lock code for other features.
160 Lock Phone Now You can manually lock your phone, to prevent access until you unlock it with the Phone Only Lock Code. This is a one- time lock; your phone returns to the setting you selected at Phone Lock Setting af ter you unlock it. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ Security. 2. Enter the Phone Only Lock Code at the prompt. The default lock code is the last four digits of your phone number, or you can set a custom lock code under Phone Settings ➔ Security ➔ Edit Codes. 3. Select Lock Phone Now. The phone locks and returns to the Home screen. To unlock the phone, press Unlock and enter the Lock Code. Restore Phone Return all phone settings to the defaults and permanently erase your information, includ ing pictures, videos, music, messages, contacts and downloaded applications. Warning! Restore Phone is irreversible. Data cannot be recovered after the Restore Phone operation. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ Security. 2. Enter the Phone Only Lock Code at the prompt. The default lock code is the last four digits of your phone number, or you can set a custom lock code under Phone Settings ➔ Security ➔ Edit Codes. 3. Use the Directional Key to highlight Restore Phone , then press the Center Select Key OK. 4. At the prompt, highlight Ye s to restore default settings, then press the Center Select Key OK. The phone powers off, then back on. Note: After restoring defaults, dial *228 to connect to the network and program your ph one with default settings.

The phone powers off, then back on. Global Data Roaming Access Set preferences for data access when your phone is outside the home network area. Important! Accessing data services while roaming may result in significant charges. Consult Verizon Wireless for more information. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ Global Data Roaming Access. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight, then press the Center Select Key SET: Allow Access for All Trips: Enable access to data networks at anytime, by any application. Allow Access Only for This Trip: Enable access to data network currently available. Deny Data Roaming Access: Block data usage while roaming.

When outside the coverage area, your phone will not roam, and call functions and other features will not be available. : Your phone automatically acquires service based on default settings, using the Verizon Wireless network and the networks of roaming partners. NAM Select Set the primary NAM (Num ber Assignment Module). Note: For more information about NAM selection, contact Verizon Wireless. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Phone Settings ➔ NAM Select. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight a selection, then press the Center Select Key OK: NAM Select: Choose NAM1 or NAM2. : Choose Enable to allow automatic NAM selection, or Disable to use the NAM Select setting.
Settings 163 Call Settings Customize settings related to placing and receiving calls. Answer Options Select a method for answering incoming calls.1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Call Settings ➔ Answer Options. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight option(s), then press the Center Select Key MARK to mark them for selection, or press the Right Soft Key Mark All : : Answer incoming calls by sliding the phone open. This also triggers Speakerphone mode. : When the phone is open, answer calls by pressing any key on the QWERTY keyboard. Auto with Handsfree: When paired with a handsfree device, calls are answered automatically after a short delay. 3. Press Done to save your selections. Auto Retr y Select settings for automatic redialing of unanswered calls after a set period of time. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Call Settings ➔ Auto Retry. 2. 164 TTY Mode Your phone is fully TTY-compatible, allowing you to connect a TTY device to the phone’s headset jack. Before you can use your phone with a TTY device, you’ll need to enable TTY Mode. Enabling TTY Mode 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Call Settings ➔ TTY Mode. 2. At the prompt “ Enabling TTY will disa ble headset audio. Continue? ”, use the Directional Key to highlight Ye s and the Center Select Key OK. 3. On the TTY MODE screen, use the Directional Key to highlight a TTY mode and press the Center Select Key SET to select it: TTY Full TTY + Talk (VCO) TTY + Hear (HCO) TTY Off One Touch Dial Enable or disable the speed dialing feature. For more information about using speed dials, see “Speed Dials” on page 52. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Call Settings ➔ One Touch Dial. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight On to enable one touch dialing, or Off to disable, then press the Center Select Key SET.
Settings 165 Voice Privacy Note: This feature is only available on the Verizon Wireless network. Enable or disable encryption of voice signals for enhanced privacy. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Call Settings ➔ Voice Privacy. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight On to enable Voice Privacy, or Off to disable, then press the Center Select Key SET. Data Settings Select a port for connecting the phone to a PC, and set connection speed. 1. From the Home screen, press the Center Select Key to select MENU ➔ Settings & Tools ➔ Call Settings ➔ Data Settings. 2. Use the Directional Key to highlight a setting, then press the Center Select Key to configure these settings: Select Port: Choose USB to allow connections via the USB port, BLUETOOTH to allow connections via Bluetooth, or NULL to allow no connections. Press the Center Select Key SET to save the setting. Port Speed: Choose a speed, then press the Center Select Key SET to save the setting.
