Using Your Printer in Linux 39 The document is scanned and the image preview appears in the Preview Pane. 7Change the scan options in the Image Quality and Scan Area sections. • Image Quality: allows you to select the color composition and the scan resolution for the image. • Scan Area: allows you to select the page size. The Advanced button enables you to set the page size manually. If you want to use one of th e preset scan option settings, select from the Job Type drop-down list. For details about the preset Job Type settings, see page 39. You can restore the default setting for the scan options by clicking Default. 8When you have finished, click Scan to start scanning. The status bar appears on the bottom left of the window to show you the progress of the scan. To cancel scanning, click Cancel. 9The scanned image appears in the new Image Manager tab. If you want to edit the scanned image, use the toolbar. For further details about editing an image, see page 39. Drag the pointer to set the image area to be scanned. 10When you are finished, click Save on the toolbar. 11Select the file directory where you want to save the image and enter the file name. 12Click Save. Adding Job Type Settings You can save your scan option settings to retrieve for a later scanning. To save a new Job Type setting: 1Change the options from the Scanner Properties window. 2Click Save As. 3Enter the name for your setting. 4Click OK. Your setting is added to the Saved Settings drop-down list. To save a Job Type setting for the next scan job: 1Select the setting you want to use from the Job Type drop- down list. 2The next time you open the Scanner Properties window, the saved setting is automatically selected for the scan job. To delete a Job Type setting: 1Select the setting you want to delete from the Job Type drop-down list. 2Click Delete. The setting is deleted from the list Using the Image Manager The Image Manager applicatio n provides you with menu commands and tools to edit your scanned image. Use these tools to edit the image. Allows you to scale the image size; you can enter the size manually, or set the rate to scale proportionally, vertically, or horizontally. Allows you to rotate the image; you can select the number of degrees from the drop- down list. Allows you to flip the image vertically or horizontally. Using Your Printer with a Macintosh 41 10Using Your Printer with a Macintosh Your printer supports Macintosh systems with a built-in USB interface or 10/100 Base-TX network interface card. When you print a file from a Macintosh computer, you can use the driver by installing the PPD file. NOTE: Some printers do not support a network interface. Make sure that your printer supports a network interface by referring to Printer Specifications in your Printer User’s Guide. This chapter includes: • Installing Software • Uninstalling software • Using SetIP program • Setting Up the Printer •Printing • Scanning Installing Software The CD-ROM that came with your printer provides you with the PPD file that allows you to use the CUPS driver or Apple LaserWriter driver (only available when you use a printer which supports the PostScript driver) , for printing on a Macintosh computer. Also, it provides you with the Twain driver for scanning on a Macintosh computer. 1Make sure that you connect yo ur printer to the computer. Turn on your computer and printer. 2Insert the CD-ROM which came with your printer into the CD-ROM drive. 3Double-click CD-ROM icon that appears on your Macintosh desktop. 4Double-click the MAC_Installer folder. 5Double-click the Installer icon. 6Enter the password and click OK. 7The Samsung Installer window opens. Click Continue 8Select Easy Install and click Install. Easy Install is recommended for most users. All components necessary for printer operations will be installed. If you select Custom Install, you can choose individual components to install. 9The message which warns all application will close on your computer appears, Click Continue. 10Select Typical installation for a local printer and then click OK. NOTE: If you select Typical installation for a network printer , see “Using SetIP program” on page 42 after the installation is finished. 11After the installation is finished, click Quit. NOTE: • If you have installed scan driver, click Restart. • After the installation is finished, see “Setting Up the Printer” on page 42 Uninstalling software Uninstall is required if you are upgrading the software, or if installation fails. 1Make sure that you connect your printer to the computer. Turn on your computer and printer. 2Insert the CD-ROM which came with your printer into the CD-ROM drive. 3Double-click CD-ROM icon that appears on your Macintosh desktop. 4Double-click the MAC_Installer folder. 5Double-click the Installer icon. 6Enter the password and click OK. 7The Samsung Installer window opens. Click Continue 8Select Uninstall and click Uninstall. 9The message which warns all application will close on your computer appears, Click Continue. 10When the uninstallation is done, click Quit. Using Your Printer with a Macintosh 42 Using SetIP program This program is for the network IP setting using the MAC address which is the hardware serial number of the network printer card or interface. Especially, it is for the network administrator to set several network IPs at the same time. You can only use SetIP program when your machine is connected to a network. SetIP program should be automatically installed during the printer driver installation. NOTE: If you select Typical installation for a network printer during the printer driver installation, the SetIP program automatically runs afte r the installation. Follow the below instruction. 1The certificate window appears, click Trust. 2Print the machine’s network information report which includes your machine’s MAC address. 3Click in the SetIP window to open the TCP/IP configuration window. 4Enter the network cards MAC ad dress, IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and then click Apply. NOTE: when you enter the MAC address, enter it without colon(:). 5The machine prints the network information. Confirm all the settings are correct. 6Close the SetIP program. Starting the program If you want to change your ne twork printer IP setting, follow the below instruction. 1Print the machine’s network information report which includes your machine’s MAC address. 2Open the Library folder → Printers → Samsung → Your printer model name → SetIP. 3Double click the SetIPApplet.html file. 4The certificate window appears, click Trust. 5Click in the SetIP window to open the TCP/IP configuration window. 6Enter the network cards MAC ad dress, IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and then click Apply. when you enter the MAC address, enter it without colon(:). 7The machine prints the network information. Setting Up the Printer Set up for your printer will be different depending on which cable you use to connect the printer to your computer—the network cable or the USB cable. For a Network-conn ected Macintosh NOTE: Some printers do not suppo rt a network interface. Before connecting your printe r, make sure that your printer supports a network interface by referring to Printer Specifications in your Printer User’s Guide. 1Follow the instructions on “Installing Software” on page 41 to install the PPD file on your computer. 2Open the Applications folder → Utilities, and Print Setup Utility . •For MAC OS 10.5, open System Preferences from the Applications folder, and click Printer & Fax. 3Click Add on the Printer List. •For MAC OS 10.5, press the “+” icon then a display window will pop up. 4For MAC OS 10.3, select the Rendezvous tab. •For MAC OS 10.4, click Default Browser and find the Bonjour. •For MAC OS 10.5, click Default and find the Bonjour. The name of your machine appears on the list. Select SEC000xxxxxxxxx from the printer box, where the xxxxxxxxx varies depending on your machine. 5For MAC OS 10.3, if Auto Select does not work properly, select Samsung in Printer Model and your printer name in Model Name. •For MAC OS 10.4, if Auto Select does not work properly, select Samsung in Print Using and your printer name in Model. •For MAC OS 10.5, if Auto Select does not work properly, select Select a driver to use... and your printer name in Print Using. However the composition of the printer properties window is similar. • You can check your printer name in the supplied CD-ROM. Printing a Document When you print with a Macintosh, you need to check the printer software setting in each applicat ion you use. Follow these steps to print from a Macintosh. 1Open a Macintosh application and select the file you want to print. 2Open the File menu and click Page Setup (Document Setup in some applications). 3Choose your paper size, orientation, scaling, and other options and click OK. 4Open the File menu and click Print. 5Choose the number of copies yo u want and indicate which pages you want to print. 6Click Print when you finish setting the options. S Mac OS 10.3 Make sure that your printer is selected. Changing Printer Settings You can use advanced printing features when using your printer. From your Macintosh application, select Print from the File menu. The printer name which appears in the printer properties window may differ depending on the printer in use. Except for the name, the composition of the printer properties window is similar. NOTE: The setting options may differ depending on printers and Macintosh OS version. Layout The Layout tab provides options to adjust how the document appears on the printed page. You can print multiple pages on one sheet of paper. Select Layout from the Presets drop- down list to access th e following features. • Pages per Sheet: This feature determines how many pages printed on one page. For details, see Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet of Paper on the next column. • Layout Direction: You can select the printing direction on a page as like the examples on UI. Using Your Printer with a Macintosh 45 Graphics The Graphics tab provides options for selecting Resolution(Quality) and Color Mode. Select Graphics form the Presets drop-down list to access the graphic features. • Resolution(Quality): You can select the printing resolution. The higher the setting, the sharper the clarity of printed characters and graphics. The higher setting also may increase the time it takes to print a document. • Color Mode: You can set the color options. Setting to Color typically produces the best possible print quality for color documents. If yo u want to print a color document in grayscale, select Grayscale. Paper Set Paper Type to correspond to the paper loaded in the tray from which you want to print. This will let you get the best quality printout. If you load a different type of print material, select the corresponding paper type. SMac OS 10.4 S Mac OS 10.4 Printer Features This tab provides options for selecting the paper type and adjusting print quality. Select Printer Features from the Presets drop-down list to acce ss the following features: • Reverse Duplex Printing: Allows you to select general print order compare to duplex print order. If this option does not appear, your prin ter does not have this feature. •Fit to Page: This setting allows you to scale your print job to any selected paper size regardless of the digital document size. This can be useful when you want to check fine details on a small document. • RGB Color: This setting determines how colors are rendered. Standard is the most widely used setting which the color tone of this mode is the closest to that of standard monitor (sRGB Monitor). Vivid mode is appropriate for printing pres entation data and charts. The color tone of Vivid mode produces more Vivid color images than that of Standard mode. Device mode is best used for printing fine lines , small characters and color drawings. The color tone of Device mode may be different from that of monitor, the pure toner colors are used for printing Cyan, Ma genta and Yellow colors. Using Your Printer with a Macintosh 46 Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet of Paper You can print more than one page on a single sheet of paper. This feature provides a cost-effective way to print draft pages. 1From your Macintosh application, select Print from the File menu. 2Select Layout. 3Select the number of pages you want to print on one sheet of paper on the Pages per Sheet drop-down list. 4Select the page order from the Layout Direction option. To print a border around each page on the sheet, select the option you want from the Border drop-down list. 5Click Print, and the printer prints the selected number of pages on one side of each page. ▲ Mac OS 10.3 Duplex Printing You can print on both sides of the paper. Before printing in the duplex mode, decide on which edge you will be binding your finished document. Th e binding options are: • Long-Edge Binding: Which is the conventional layout used in book binding. • Short-Edge Binding: Which is the type often used with calendars. 1From your Macintosh application, select Print from the File menu. 2Select the Layout. 3Select a binding orientation from Two Sided Printing option. 4Click Print and the printer prints on both sides of the paper. CAUTION: If you have selected duplex printing and then try to print multiple copies of a document, the printer may not print the document in the way you want. In case of Collated copy , if your document has odd pages, the last page of the first copy and the first page of the next copy will be printed on the front and back of one sheet. In case of Uncollated copy, the same page will be printed on the front and back of one sheet. Using Your Printer with a Macintosh 47 Scanning You can scan docoments using Image Capture program. Macintosh OS offers Image Capture program. Scanning with USB 1Make sure that your machine and computer are turned on and properly connected to each other. 2Place a single document face down on the document glass. OR load the document(s) face up into the ADF (or DADF). 3Start Applications and click Image Capture. NOTE: If No Image Capture device connected message appears, disconnect the USB ca ble and reconnect it. If the problem persists, please refer to the Image Capture’s help. 4Set the scan options on this program. 5Scan and save your scanned image. NOTE: • For more information about using Image Capture, please refer to the Image Capture’s help. • If you want to scan via the DADF, use TWAIN-comliant softwares. • You can also scan using TWAIN- compliant softwares, such as Adobe Photoshop. • Scan process differ according to TWAIN-compliant softwares. Please refer to the user’s guide of the software. • If scanning does not operate in Image Capture, update Mac OS to the latest version. Image Capture operates propery in Mac OS 10.3.9 or higher and Mac OS 10.4.7 or higher. Scanning with network 1Make sure that your machine and computer are turned on. 2Place a single document face down on the document glass. OR load the document(s) face up into the ADF (or DADF). 3Start Applications and click Image Capture. 4Click Devices and click Browse Devices. 5For MAC OS X 10.4: Select your machine in Twain devices option. Make sure that Use TWAIN software checkbox is checked, and click Connect. For MAC OS X 10.5: Make sure that Connected checkbox is checked beside your machine in Bonjour Devices. If you want to scan using TW AIN, refer to the MAC OS X 10.4 procedure above. 6Set the scan options on this program. 7Scan and save your scanned image. NOTE: • If you want to scan via the DADF, use TWAIN-comliant softwares. • For more information about using Image Capture, please refer to the Image Capture’s help. • You can also scan using TWAIN-compliant softwares, such as Adobe Photoshop. • Scan process differ accord ing to TWAIN-compliant softwares. Please refer to the user’s guide of the software. • If scanning does not operate in Image Capture, update Mac OS to the latest version. Image Capture operates propery in Mac OS 10.3.9 or higher and Mac OS 10.4.7 or higher. Setting scan info rmation in Scan Manager. You can find out about Scan Manager program information and installed scan drivers condit ion. Also, you can change scan settings and add or delete the folders where scanned documents to computer are save in Scan Manager program. 1Open Scan Manager in Smart Panel menu on Status bar. 2Set Scan Button allows you to change the saving destination and scan settings, add or delete application program and format files.
