General Considerations for Clearing Jams
Bear in mind the following considerations when attempting jam removal:
• If paper jams occur frequently, try using a different type of paper, 
replace the paper with paper from another ream, flip the paper stack 
over, or rotate the paper stack 180 degrees. The printer may have 
problems if paper jams recur after the paper was replaced.
• Whether or not the jammed pages are reproduced normally after 
printing is resumed depends on the location of the paper jam.H Paper is jammed at the optional

CAUTION  When pulling the paper, pull it gently so as not to 
tear it. Torn pieces of paper are difficult to remove and may 
be easily overlooked, deterring the jam recovery.

Paper Jam at Cassette 1
Follow the steps below to clear paper jams at paper cassette 1.
1Pull up the left cover 1 lever and open left cover 1.
2Remove the jammed paper.
3Pull out paper cassette 1.
4Remove the jammed paper.
5Push paper cassette 1 back in place securely.
6Press the specified position to close left cover 1.

Paper Jam at Cassette 2
Follow the steps below to clear paper jams at paper cassette 2.
1Open left cover 3.
2Remove the jammed paper.
3Pull out paper cassette 2.
4Remove the jammed paper.
5Push paper cassette 2 back in place securely.
6Close left cover 3.

Paper Jam at Optional Cassette 3 or 4
When using the optional paper feeder, follow the steps below to clear 
paper jams at paper cassette 3 or 4.
1Open left cover 4.
2Remove the jammed paper.
3Pull out the paper cassette that is being used.
4Remove the jammed paper.
5Push the paper cassette back in place securely.
6Close left cover 4.

Paper Jam at MP Tray
Follow the steps below to clear paper jams at the MP tray.
1Remove the paper from the MP tray.
2If paper is jammed inside, remove the jammed paper.
3Pull up the left cover 1 lever and open left cover 1.
4Remove the jammed paper.
5Open feed guide B1.

6Remove the jammed paper.
7Pull out paper cassette 1.
8Turn the lower green knob (B2) to the left at least 10 times.
9Remove the jammed paper.
If you cannot remove the paper, continue with the following steps.
10Pull out the paper feed unit (B3).

11Open the paper feed unit cover (B4) and remove the jammed paper.
12Push the paper feed unit (B3) back in place, and push the paper 
cassette back in place securely.
13Press the specified position to close left cover 1.
Paper Jams Inside Left Cover 1, 3, or 4
When using the optional paper feeder, follow the steps below to clear 
paper jams from inside left cover 1, 3, or 4.
1Open the left cover where the paper is jammed inside.
2Remove the jammed paper.
3Close the left cover.

Paper Jam at Duplex Unit
Follow the steps below to clear paper jams at the duplex unit.
1Pull up the left cover 1 lever and open left cover 1.
2Remove the jammed paper.
3Press the specified position to close left cover 1.

Follow the steps below to clear paper jams at the duplex unit and paper 
cassette 1.
1Pull up the left cover 1 lever and open left cover 1.

3Press the specified position to close left cover 1.
4If the left cover 2 indicator is flashing, open left cover 2.
5Remove the jammed paper.
6Close left cover 2.
7Pull out paper cassette 1 and remove the jammed paper.
8Push paper cassette 1 back in place securely.

Paper Jam at Fixing Unit
Follow the steps below to clear paper jams at the fixing unit.
1Pull up the left cover 1 lever and open left cover 1.
2Remove the jammed paper.
3Open the fuser cover (A1).
CAUTION  When pulling the paper, pull it gently so as not to tear it. 
Torn pieces of paper are difficult to remove and may be easily 
overlooked, deterring the jam recovery.
4Remove the jammed paper.
