Settings 59 2. Clear the Auto-rotate screen option and touch . Note : Not all application screens support automatic rotation. The screen orientation automatically changes to landscape mode when you turn the phone sideways. Animation You can enable or disable screen anima tions. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures. 2. Select or clear the Animation option. Text Size You can adjust the text size for your viewing comfort. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures. 2. Touch Font size and then select the font size. Brightness By default, the screen brightness automatically adjusts depending on the surrounding lighting conditions. To manually adjust screen brightness: 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures. 2. Touch Brightness, and then clear the Automatic brightness option. 3. Drag the slider to adjust the brightness. 4. Touch OK. Screen Timeout After a period of inactivity, the phone screen turns off to conserve battery power. You can set the idle time before the screen turns off. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures. 2. Touch Sleep, and then t ouch the time before the screen turns off. Note : Extended screen timeout periods reduce the battery ’s talk and standby times. Tip : To turn off and lock the screen quickly, press . Keep the Screen On While Charging You can keep the screen on while you charge the phone. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures. 2. Select the Stay awake option and touch .

Change the Wallpaper Changing the phone’s display screen wallpaper with a preset wallpaper or your favorite photo is a quick and easy way to change the feel of your phone and give it a fresh look. Browse the collection of wallpapers included in your phone or choose from photos that you have taken with the camera. You can also change to an animated wallpaper. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Personalize > Wallpaper . 2. Select from the following: HTC wallpapers to use a preset image. Live wallpapers to choose from preset animated wallpapers. Gallery to use a picture that you have captured using the camera or copied to your phone as wallpaper. You can crop the picture before setting it as wallpaper. 3. Touch Save or Apply . Calibrate the Screen Recalibrat e the screen if you feel that the screen orientation does not respond properly to the way you hold the phone. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures > G-Sensor calibration . 2. Place the phone on a flat surface, and then touch Calibrate . 3. After the recalibration process, touch OK. Sound Settings The Sound settings menu lets you control your phone’ s audio, from ringtones and alerts to touch tones and notifications. General Sound Settings Incoming Calls Notifications System General Sound Settings Use the following settings for such features as silent mode, vibrate, and overall phone volume.
Settings 61 Silent Mode The Silent mode option allows you to mute all sounds without turning your phone off. To activate Silent mode: Press the volume down button in standby mode until you see the image below on the screen. The Silent mode icon ( ) appears on the status bar. To deactivate Silent mode: Press the volume up button repeatedly to select a volume level. Vibrate To set your phone to vibrate instead of making any sounds , follow the steps below. Press the volume down button in standby mode until you see the image below on the screen. The phone vibrates and the vibrate mode icon ( ) appears on the status bar. To set your phone to always vibrate in addition to any ringer settings: 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Sound. 2. Select the Vibrate check button. 3. Touch . Volume You can separately adjust your phone’ s multimedia, ringtone and notifications , and alarm volumes. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Sound > Volumes . 2. Drag the volume sliders on the screen to adjust the media, ringtone and notifications , and alarm, volumes. 3. Touch OK . Note : You can adjust the ringer volume in standby mode (or the earpiece volume during a call) by pressing the volume up or down button.
Settings 62 Incoming Calls You can select and assign ringtones for your incoming calls. Phone Ringtone Select a default ringtone for incoming calls. Your phone provides a variety of ringtones that you can set as the default ringtone of your phone . 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Sound > Phone ringtone . 2. Touch the ringtone you want to use, and then touch Apply . The ringtone briefly plays when selected. Note : You can use *.wav, *.mid, *.mp3, *.wma, or other types of sound files that you have downloaded from the Internet or copied from your computer as ringtones. Other Incoming Call Options You can choose to enable or disable the following incoming call features : Quiet ring on pickup. See Use the Quiet Ring on Pickup Feature . Pocket mode . When selected, the phone rings louder when it’s inside your bag or pocket. Flip for speaker . During a call, you can activate the speakerphone by flipping the phone over. Notifications Use the settings menus to assign specific ringtones for notifications. Notification Ringtone Your phone provides a variety of sounds that you can set as the default sound for notifications. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Sound > Notification sound. 2. Touch the sound you want to use, and then touch Apply . The sound plays when sele cted. System The System settings menu lets you select whether you hear tones when touching numbers on the dialpad, selecting onscreen options, and more. Dial pad touch tones : Select the short tones to use . Touch sounds: Play sounds when making an onscreen selection. Screen lock sounds: Play sounds when locking or unlocking the screen. Vibrate feedback : Vibrate when touching soft keys and during certain other instances.

Call Settings Your phone’ s Call Settings menu lets you configure your voicemail options and a number of other settings for the phone application. Voicemail Settings Other Call Settings Internet Call Settings Voicemail Settings See Set Up Voicemail . Other Call Settings Use these options to adjust several call settings, such as teletypewriter and DDTM. TTY Mode A TTY (teletypewriter, also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) is a telecommunications phone that allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to communicate by telephone. Your phone is compatible with select TTY phone s. Please check with the manufacturer of your TTY phone to ensure that it supports digital wireless transmission. Your phone and TTY phone will connect using a special cable that plugs into your phone’ s headset jack. If this cable was not provided wi th your TTY phone, contact your TTY phone manufacturer to purchase the connector cable. When establishing your Sprint service, please call Sprint Customer Service using the state Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) by first dialing . Then provide the state TRS with this number: 866- 727-4889. To turn TTY Mode on or off: 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Call > TTY mode . 2. Touch TTY Full , TTY HCO , or TTY VCO . Touch TTY Off to turn TTY mode off. Note : When enabled, TTY mode may impair the audio quality of non- TTY phone s connected to the headset jack. Warning : 911 Emergency Calling Sprint recommends that TTY users make emergency calls by other means, including Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS), analog cellular, and landline communications. Wireless TTY calls to 911 may be corrupted when received by public safety answering points (PSAPs), rendering some
Settings 64 communications unintelligible. The problem encountered appears related to TTY equipment or softwar e used by PSAPs. This matter has been brought to the attention of the FCC, and the wireless industry and the PSAP community are currently working to resolve this. DDTM Mode Select this option if you want to direct all calls to your voicemail when you are using data connection. See Data Services FAQs . Internet Call Settings See Internet Calls . Applications Settings This menu lets you control your application settings, including allowing installation of non- Google Play applications and removing applications. Allow Installation of Third -Party Programs Clear Application Cache and Data Select the App to Open Data Items Stop Applications Using Task Manager Allow Installation of Third-Party Programs By default, you can install only programs and games downloaded from Google Play. To install third -party programs on the phone: Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Security . Select the Unknown sources option. To uninstall third -party programs on the phone: 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then t ouch > App s. 2. Touch the Downloaded, On phone storage, Running, or All tab, and then touch the application you want to uninstall. 3. On the App info screen, touch Uninstall. Note : You cannot uninstall programs that are preinstalled on the phone . Clear Application Cache and Data Free up storage space and phone memory by deleting application cache and data. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then t ouch > App s.
Settings 65 2. Touch the Downloaded, On phone storage, Running, or All tab, and then touch the application whose cache or data you want to delete. Tip : Touch to sort the apps list . 3. In the App info screen, touch Clear data or Clear cache. Select the App to Open Data Items You can set which app opens when you tap an item such as a phone number or email address while reading a message, viewing a Web page, and more. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > App associations. 2. For each item type, select the app you want to open. Stop Applications Using Task Manager Use Task Manager to free up memory by stopping running applications that you’ re not currently using. 1. Touch > > Task Manager . 2. In the All applications list, touch to the right of the application name to stop it. Storage Settings The storage settings menu lets you reset your phone and manage the phone storage and microSD card. Where Applications, Data, and Files are Stored Encrypt Data on Your Phone Reset Your Phone Where Applications, Data, and Files are Stored Your phone uses these storage types. Apps and data storage. Apps are installed to this storage, labeled as Internal storage in your phone settings. It also stores data such as your text messages, contacts you created or synchronized to your phone , account settings, and more. This storage is managed and carefully guarded by your phone since it contains your private information. When you connect your phone to your computer, this storage is not accessible from your computer. Storage contents will be erased when you do a factory reset. Make sure to bac k up your data before starting a factory reset. File storage . This is another built -in storage, labeled as Phone storage in your phone settings. This is where you can store your files. When you connect the phone to your computer and you selected Media sync mode, this storage is accessible and you can
Settings 66 copy files between them. When you do a factory reset, you can choose whether to keep or erase the storage contents. Storage card. If you installed a microSD card, y ou can store your files such as photos, music, and videos to this removable storage. When you connect your phone to your computer, this storage is accessible and you can copy files between them. See microSD Card for more information. Note: The default storage for your fi les, whether it’s the Phone storage or your storage card, may vary from app to app. Some apps allow you to set the default storage. Encrypt Data on Your Phone You can encrypt data such as your online accounts, settings, music files and other media. After encryption, you will need to enter the screen lock PIN or password to turn on your phone and access the data. Important: Set a lock screen PIN or password befor e encrypting your data. Fully charge the battery and keep your phone connected to the power adapter during encryption. The encryption process takes about an hour. You cannot undo encryption. If you want to return to an unencrypted phone, you must perform a factory reset. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Storage. 2. Select the encryption option for the type of storage you want to encrypt. 3. Touch Encrypt . 4. Enter the lock screen PIN or password. 5. Touch Next. 6. Touch Encrypt . Encryption starts and the progress is displayed. The phone may restart a few times. When the encryption process is complete, enter your PIN or password. Reset Your Phone Resetting the phone deletes all data and resets the phone back to its initial state — the state before you turned on the phone for the first time. These items will be deleted when you reset the phone. Your Google Account All other email and social networking accounts System and application data and settings Downloaded applications
Settings 67 Important : Make sure to back up important data you have on the phone or your microSD card before you perform a reset. Reset Your Phone via Settings 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then t ouch > Storage > Factory data reset . 2. Do any of the following: If you want to erase all data on the phone storage, select Erase all data. If you want to erase all data in the installed microSD card, select Erase storage card. 3. Touch Reset phone. 4. Touch Erase everything. Your phone will power down and reset itself, which may take up to 10 minutes. Once the phone has reset, it will run through the Hands Free Activation and update processes again. When finished, you will see the Welcome screen and Setup application. See Complete the Setup Application to start over. Reset Your Phone Using the Phone Keys 1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the volume down button, and then press . 2. When the phone’s display turns on, release the power and volume buttons. 3. Use the volume button to select FACTORY RESET , and then press . All data on your phone will be deleted. Power & Data Management Settings Save battery power by adjusting the screen brightness or by controlling your phone’s wireless function and data delivery. Adjust the Screen Brightness and Screen On -Time Manage Your Phone’ s Wireless Functions Set the Email Synchronization Schedule Close Applications Not In Use Adjust the Screen Brightness and Screen On -Time You can reduce screen brightness or set a shorter sleep timeout to save battery power. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures > Brightness , and then modify the backlight setting as desired. See Brightness .
Settings 68 Add the Power Dashboard widget to the home screen to easily adjust the screen bri ghtness. Touch and hold a blank space on a Home screen and on the Widgets tab, touch All Widgets > Settings > Power Dashboard. Decrease the time before the screen turns off when the phone is idle. Open the N otifications panel, and then touch > Display & gestures > Sleep, and then select a timeout value. See Screen Timeout . To turn off the screen, press . The phone will continue to function. Manage Your Phone’s Wireless Functions To save battery life, you can disable the 4G LTE , Bluetooth, GPS, Sprint Hotspot, and Wi -Fi functions of the phone when not in use. To change wireless settings: Open the Notifications panel, and then touch . Turn off any wireless functions (for example, Bluetooth or Wi -Fi ) that are not in use. To change GPS settings: Open the Notifications panel, and then t ouch > Location . Disable the GPS by clearing the GPS satellites check button. To add a wireless function widget to your Home screen: Touch and hold a blank space on a Home screen and on the Wi dgets tab, touch the 4G, Bluetooth , GPS, or Wi -Fi widget to add it on the Home screen . Set the Email Synchronization Schedule If you use the phone to send and receive email, you can set your email account to download email more or less frequently as desired. The more frequently your phone checks for new messages, the more quickly the battery will run down. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. If you have set up mult iple email accounts on your phone, switch to the email account that you want to edit by touching . 3. In the inbox, touch > Settings > Sync , S end & Receive. 4. In the Sync schedule section, touch Peak time or Off -peak sync, and then select an email download frequency. Close Applications Not In Use You can also close applications that are not in use to conserve battery power. 1. Open the Notifications panel, and then touch > Apps . 2. Touch the Running tab, and then touch the application you would like to close.
