Accounts and Messaging 89 Sort Email Messages You can sort email messages by date received, priority, subject, sender, or size. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Touch > Sort , and select from the sorting options. Tip: To quickly scroll through the message list based on the sorting option you’ ve selected, touch and hold two fingers on any email message, and then drag upward or downward. Send an Email Message Send an email message to your contacts using an email account in Mail. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account that you want to use. 3. Touch . 4. Fill in one or more rec ipients. Tip : If you want to send a carbon copy (Cc) or a blind carbon copy (Bcc) of the email to other recipients, touch > Show Cc/Bcc . 5. Enter the subject, and then compose your message. 6. Do any of the following: Add an attachment. Touch Attach and then choose what you want to attach. Set the priority for an important message. Touch > Set priority . 7. Touch Send, or to send it later, touch Save as draft . Note : If there ’s no Wi -Fi or data connection available or Airplane mode is on when you send y our email, the email is saved to the Outbox folder. Once there’ s Wi-Fi or data connection available, the saved email will be sent automatically next time your phone syncs. Resume a Draft Email Message 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. In an email account inbox, touch > Folder > Drafts . 3. Touch the message. 4. When you finish editing the message, touch Send . Read and Reply to an Email Message 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account that you want to use.

Note: If you want to read a particular message inside an email conversation, touch to expand the conversation, and then touch the email message. 4. Touch Reply or Reply All . 5. Touch for more actions for the email. Find Unread Email Messages Unread email messages display in bold in your inbox. If you’ re viewing the unified inbox of all your email accounts, color bars also appear next to unread email messages. The color bars also indicate the email account from where the email messa ge is received. To group all unread email messages, add the Unread tab to your inbox. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account you want to use. 3. In the inbox, touch > Edit tabs. 4. Touch and hold Unread, and then drag it to the bottom row to add. 5. Touch and touch the Unread tab. Save an Email Message in Tasks Save an email message in your Tasks list so you can remind yourself when to reply. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. In an email account inbox, touch and hold the email message, and then touch Save as task. 3. On the New task screen, enter the task details, and then touch Save . Print Your Email Messages Do you need to print your email? Not a problem. Connect your phone to a supported printer and start printing out your email messages. Note : Both printer and your phone must be turned on and connected to the same local network. To learn how to connect the phone to the local wireless network, see Turn Wi -Fi On and Connect to a Wireless Network . To learn how to connect the printer to the local network, refer to your printer user guide. The local network must not be behind a firewall. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account that you want to use. 3. On the email inbox, touch the email you want to print.

Otherwise, touch Scan for printers or Add printer and then follow the onscreen instructions to add the printer to the list. 6. In the Print preview screen, you can select which pages to print, set the number of copies, or select to fit the email messages on the page. Tip : Touch Advanced to set the page size, print layout, and page orientation, and whether you want to print in color or black -and- white. 7. Touch Print. Tip: You can check the printing progress by opening the Notifications panel, and then touching the item you’ re printing. Search Email Messages If you have a long list of email messages on your inbox, you can easily search for that important email. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Touch . 3. If you want to refine or filter your search, t ouch , check the search options, and then touch OK. For example, you can focus the search on a part of an email or filter email messages that have attachments or tagged as high priority. 4. In the search box, enter the words you want to search for. 5. Touch a result to open the email message. Search Emails From a Contact Do you remember the sender, but can’ t find that particular email? 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account you want to use. 3. Touch and hold an email message from a contact. 4. Touch Search the mail from the sender . A list of email messages from that contact appears. Work with Exchange ActiveSync Email If you sync your phone with your work Exchange Act iveSync account, you can read, reply, send, and manage email in the same easy way as with a POP3/IMAP account. In addition, you can also use some powerful Exchange features. Flag E mail Messages 1. Touch > > Mail .

W hile viewing your Exch ange ActiveSync email inbox, touch the white flag icon ( ) that appears on the right of an email message or conversation. The icon turns red ( ) after you flagged the email or conversation. Tip: To flag an email message insi de a conversation, touch to expand the conversation, and then touch the flag icon of the email message. Set Y our Out of O ffice Status You can set your Out of Office status and auto -reply message right from your phone . 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to your Exchange ActiveSync email account. 3. Touch > Out of the office. 4. Touch your current office status , and then select Out of the office . 5. Set the dates and times for the period when you will be out of the office. 6. Enter the auto -reply message. 7. If you want a different auto- reply message for recipients outside your organization, select the Send auto reply message to external recipient option, and then enter the auto- reply message in the box that appears. 8. Touch Save . S end a M eeting Request 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to your Exchange ActiveSync email account. 3. Touch > New meeting invitation . 4. Enter the meeting details, and then touch Save .
Accounts and Messaging 93 Manage Email Messages Your email inbox provides management options for sorting and deleting your email messages. Move Email Messages to Another Folder 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account that you want to use. 3. Select the email messages you want to move. Tip: To select all, select one email message first, and then t ouch > Select all . 4. Touch Move to , and then select a folder. Delete Email Messages 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account that you want to use. 3. Touch the check buttons of email messages you want to delete. Tip: To select all, select one email message first, and then t ouch > Select all . 4. Touch Delete. Switch to Other Mail Folders 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. In an email account inbox, touch > Folder . 3. Touch the mail folder that contains the email messages you want to view. Sync Email Less Frequently When you don’t need to sync email frequently, such as when you’ re watching video or driving, use Smart Sync to automatically extend the time before your phone syncs your email account. Smart Sync helps you save battery power. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account where you want to use Smart Sync. 3. Touch > Settings > Sync, Send & Receive. 4. Touch Peak time sync > Smart Sync . 5. Touch Off-peak sync > Smart Sync . 6. Touch . Smart Sync then extends the email synchronization time after each auto sync time passes and you don’ t open the Mail app. To sync your email at any time, open the Mail app and check your inbox.
Accounts and Messaging 94 Change the Email Account Settings Change your email account settings such as the email account name and password, signature, sync schedule, and more. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account that you want to change . 3. Touch > Settings, and choose from these options: Account settings : Change the email account settings such as the name, email address, password, and description. General settings Mail body f ont size: Se t the font size when reading email messages. Use signature: Select to append a signature to your outgoing email messages. Signature : Set the signature for outgoing email messages. Set as default account : Select to use the current email account as the default account to send email messages. Attachment cache: Select where to save email attachments. Ask before deleting : Select to display a confirmation box when deleting email messages. Portrait body preview : Set the number of lines of text to dis play for email messages in the i nbox. Show threaded view : Select to group messages and related replies into threads. Sync, Send & Receive Peak time sync: Set the synchronization schedule during your set peak time. Peak time: Set the time when you receive the most number of email messages. Off -peak sync: Set the synchronization schedule during your set off -peak time. Download past mail : Set how many days to download past email messages. Refresh on open: Select to aut omaticaly download email messages when you open an email folder. Folder to sync: Select the folder to synchronize whenever you launch Mail. Mail size limit : Set the maximum email file size for incoming messages. Message format : Set email messages to displa y in HTML or plain text format. Include file attachment : Set the size of email attachments that will be automatically downloaded with email messages.
Accounts and Messaging 95 Reply with original text : Select to reply email messages with the original receive email. Always bcc me: S elect to always send yourself a copy of all email messages that you send. Notification settings Email notifications : Select to turn on email notifications on your phone. Notification sound : Set the phone to play a sound when a new email message arrives. Notification vibrate: Set the phone to vibrate when a new email message arrives. Delete account : Touch to delete an email account. 4. Touch to save your changes. Delete an Email Account Delete an email account from your phone i f you want to discontinue using that account. 1. Touch > > Mail . 2. Switch to the email account that you want to delete. 3. Touch > Settings > Delete account . Add the Mail Widget Add the Mail widget to view your POP3/IMAP or Exchange ActiveSync email messages on the Home screen. To learn how to add widgets, see Customize the Home Screen. Text Messaging and MMS Keep in touch with important people in your life. Use the Messages app to compose and send text and multimedia messages. On the All messages screen, your sent and received messages are neatly grouped into conversations, by contact name or phone number . See your service plan for applicable charges for messaging. Touch > > Messages. 2. Touch . 3. Enter a contact name or mobile number in the To field. Tip: Sending t he message to a group of friends? T ouch , and then select the contacts to whom you want to send the message. You can also select contact groups as recipients. When you have selected all the message recipients, t ouch Done. 4. Touch the “ Add text” box and then start composing your message. Note : A counter appears at the top of the Send button to tell you how many characters you have entered and how many characters are left. Once you go over the 160- character limit, a new message is created but automatically j oined into one when received. Your text message automatically becomes a multimedia message if you enter an email address as the recipient, add a message subject, attach an item, or compose a very long message. 5. Touch S end, or touch to save the message as a draft . Use Preset Messages Preset messages make it easy to compose text messages.
Accounts and Messaging 97 1. Touch > > Messages. 2. Touch . 3. Enter a contact name or mobile number in the To field. 4. Touch the “Add text” box , and then touch > Quick text . You will see the list of preset messages. 5. Do any of the following: Touch a preset message to enter it to your text message. To add a new preset message, touch > Add . Enter your message and touch OK . To edit a preset message, touch > Edit . T ouch the message you want to edit, edit the message, and then touch OK. To delete preset messages, touch > Delete . Touch the messages you want to delete, and then touch Delete. Send a Multimedia Message (MMS) When you need to add a little more to a text message, you can send a multimedia message (MMS) with pictures, voice recordings, audio or video files, contact cards (vCard), or appointments (vCalendar). 1. Touch > > Messages. 2. Touch . 3. Enter a contact name or mobile number in the To field. Tip: Sending the message to a group of friends? Touch , and then select the contacts to whom you want to send the message. You can also select contact groups as recipients. When you have selected all the message recipients, touch Done. 4. To add a subject line, t ouch > Add subject to add a subject line to your message. 5. Touch the “ Add text” box, and then start composing your message. 6. Touch and then select the type of attachment : Picture. Select Camera to take a photo and attach it, or Gallery to attach a photo from your storage card. Video. Select Camcorder to capture a video and attach it, or Videos to attach a video from your storage card. Audio. Select Voice Recorder to make a voice recording and at tach it, or Music & sounds to attach a music file or voice recording from your storage card. App recommendation. Choose an app you’ve installed from Google Play Store that you want to share with others. The URL from which the app can be downloaded will be inserted to your message.
Accounts and Messaging 98 Location. Add your current location (requires GPS to be turned on), or a location you pick on a map to your message. See Google Maps . Contact (vCard). Select a contact from your phone, and then select which contact information you want to attach. Appointment (vCalendar). Select the calendar event you want to attach. 7. To see options for replacing or reviewing your attachment, touch . You can also touch > Discard to start over. 8. Touch Send, or touch to save message as a draft. Create a Slideshow You can create an MMS message with multiple slides, each containing a photo, video, or audio, and text. 1. Touch > > Messages. 2. Touch . 3. Enter a contact name or mobile number in the To field. Tip: Sending the message to a group of friends? Touch , and then select the contacts to whom you want to send the message. You can also select contact groups as recipients. When you have selected all the message recipients, touch Done. 4. To add a subject line, touch > Add subject . 5. Touch the “Add text” box, and then start composing your message. 6. Touch and then attach a photo, video, or audio in the multimedia message you’ re composing 7. Touch > Slide . 8. Choose where you want to insert the next slide. 9. Right after adding a slide, do any of the following: Touch , and then choose to add a photo or a video. Touch > Audio to add music or a voice recording to a slide. Touch Add text , and then enter your caption. Touch to see options for replacing, viewing or removing your attachment. Touch > Preview . Touch once on the preview screen to see playback controls. 10. When finished, touch Send, or touch to save the message as a draft.
