Chapter 8 | Companion Programs | 127 • Sequence. To automatically play the slideshow, select the order in which you want pictures displayed: Forward, Reverse, or Random. To control the slideshow manually (by rocking the action button to display the next picture), select Off. • Delay. Set the delay time (in seconds) you want the slideshow to wait before it automatically displays the next picture. • Wrap around. To repeat the slideshow after the final picture has been displayed, select the Wrap around check box. Clear the check box if you want the slideshow to stop after the last picture. • Auto-rotate. Select the Auto-rotate check box to rotate pictures if necessary to better fit the screen. Select either Clockwise or Anti-clockwise to determine the direction of rotation. • Show filename and Show date. Select Show filename and/or Show date to display information about the picture on the screen during the slideshow. • Play audio. Select Play audio to play any associated sound files when the picture is displayed. Sending Images You can also use hp image viewer to send images by e-mail, send images by infrared, or copy and paste images into Word documents and notes. To send an image as an attachment to an e-mail message 1. In Browse mode, select the image that you want to send. 2. On the Send menu, tap E-Mail. This will launch Pocket Inbox and open a new e-mail with the image as an attachment. To send an image to another PDA by infrared 1. In Browse mode, select the image that you want to send. 2. On the Send menu, tap Infrared.

Align the infrared ports on your hp Jornada with the infrared ports on the receiving device, and set the receiving device to receive the file. To send an image to an infrared-equipped printer or desktop PC 1. In Browse mode, select the image that you want to send. 2. On the Edit menu, tap Send IrOBEX. 3. Align the infrared ports on your hp Jornada with the infrared ports on the receiving device. To copy an image to a document 1. In Browse mode, select the image that you want to copy. 2. On the Edit menu, tap Copy to Clipboard, and then choose the appropriate size. 3. Switch to the document or note into which you will paste the image. 4. On the Edit menu, tap Paste. CodeWallet includes information forms for your convenience, and stores your data in encrypted, password-protected files. CodeWallet Pro may not be included on some models of the hp Jornada. To start CodeWallet Pro • On the Start menu, tap Programs, and then tap the CodeWallet Pro icon. If you need information about troubleshooting ActiveSync or connecting to your desktop PC, click Microsoft ActiveSync Help on the Help menu in ActiveSync. The information in this chapter will help you • Reset your hp Jornada. • Restore your hp Jornada to the factory default settings. • Troubleshoot basic problems. • Troubleshoot problems with remote connections. • Troubleshoot problems with the display and touch screen.
132 | hp Jornada 560 series personal digital assistant User’s Guide Resetting Your hp Jornada Occasionally, you may need to reset your hp Jornada; for example, you should reset after you restore data from your desktop PC or when the operating system stops responding. Resetting your hp Jornada is similar to restarting your desktop PC. It restarts the operating system and preserves any saved data, but you will lose any unsaved data. Reset after restoring data from a backup file or when your hp Jornada appears to be “frozen” or “locked up.” When you reset, you lose unsaved data in all open documents or programs. Use hp task switcher to close all open documents and programs before you reset. To reset 1. Remove your hp Jornada from the cradle. 2. Remove the CompactFlash card (if installed). 3. Use the stylus to press the red reset button on the back of the hp Jornada, as shown in the following illustration.
Chapter 9 | Troubleshooting | 133 Restoring Factory Defaults In some cases, such as when your hp Jornada does not respond after being reset or when you forget your password, you may need to restore your hp Jornada to the factory default settings. This erases all data not stored in the hp safe store folder or on a CompactFlash memory card. All information you have entered in RAM, including all files, system settings, and programs you have installed, may be erased. To ensure the safety of your information should it be necessary to restore the factory defaults, you should regularly back up your data to your desktop PC (using ActiveSync), to a CompactFlash card (using the hp backup application), or to the hp safe store folder (using the hp emergency backup application). For more information on backing up data, see “Backing Up and Restoring Data” in chapter 6. Restoring the factory default settings erases all files, programs, and data stored in RAM. You can restore data from a backup file saved on your desktop computer, on a CompactFlash card, or in the hp safe store folder. (For more information, see “Backing Up and Restoring Data” in chapter 6, or ActiveSync Help on your desktop computer.) To restore the factory defaults 1. Disconnect all cables, including the ac adapter, from your hp Jornada. 2. Remove the backup battery. Use the stylus to hold the backup battery lock in the OPEN position, and then slide out the backup battery tray. 3. Remove the main battery. 4. Wait at least 5 minutes, and then reinstall the main battery, reinstall the backup battery, and reconnect the ac adapter. (For more information, see “Using Your hp Jornada for the First Time” in chapter 2.) 5. Your hp Jornada should turn on automatically and display the Welcome Wizard. 6. If you have enabled hp emergency backup, you will be prompted to restore your PIM databases from the hp safe store folder.
134 | hp Jornada 560 series personal digital assistant User’s Guide After you restore the factory defaults, you will need to complete the Welcome Wizard and reestablish a partnership with your desktop PC. You may also want to restore data to your hp Jornada from your most recent backup file. For more information, see “Using Your hp Jornada for the First Time” in chapter 2, and “Backing Up and Restoring Data” in chapter 6. Basic Problems If you have a specific problem, review the information below to see if you can quickly find the answer. Or, visit the hp Web site at www.hp.com/jornada for more information about common difficulties. Problem Diagnosis/Remedy hp Jornada does not turn on when not connected to ac power. Power is too low to run your hp Jornada. Connect to ac power, and then turn on your hp Jornada. (Charge the battery regularly to avoid running out of battery power.) Battery runs out of power quickly. You are using your hp Jornada in ways that drain power quickly. Use external power to charge and power your device whenever possible, especially when listening to music or using CompactFlash cards. –or– Alerts and notifications are causing your hp Jornada to turn on, even when you are not using it. Check the “wake up sources” in the Power Preferences page in hp settings. For more information, see “Managing Power” in chapter 6.
Chapter 9 | Troubleshooting | 135 Problem Diagnosis/Remedy hp Jornada automatically shuts down/suspends. Power is too low. When a critically low power condition is encountered, the hp Jornada initiates a safety shutdown. Connect to ac power and charge the battery. –or– Auto-suspend activated. To conserve power, the hp Jornada auto-suspends if it is idle for 1 minute immediately after power is turned on. It also auto-suspends if it is continuously idle for 5 minutes. –or– hp Jornada is locked up. Connect to external power, and reset your hp Jornada. (See “Resetting your hp Jornada” in this chapter.) (Caution: You may lose any unsaved data when you reset.) hp Jornada locks up when running applications, or it runs slowly. hp Jornada is locked up. Connect to ac power, and reset. (See “Resetting your hp Jornada” in this chapter.) Note: Check to ensure that the device is not running low on power, and avoid running several applications at the same time. Use hp task switcher to close applications that are not in use.
136 | hp Jornada 560 series personal digital assistant User’s Guide Problem Diagnosis/Remedy hp Jornada does not turn on or display appears to be off, even though power is on. The display is off. Press and hold the notification button/LED to turn on the display. –or– There is not enough light to see the display. Turn on lights or move to a room with more light. Use hp settings to increase the brightness of the display. Press and hold the power button to turn on the backlight. Change hp settings to use the light sensor to automatically turn on the backlight in dark conditions. –or– The device has been reset. After a reset, the screen remains blank for approximately 3 seconds after pressing the power button. –or– hp Jornada has run out of power. Charge the device by connecting to ac power Backup file created with the hp backup application on another hp handheld device cannot be restored to the hp Jornada. Only PIM data can be migrated to hp Jornada 560 series personal digital assistants. Because the hp Jornada 560 series personal digital assistant uses a new version of the Pocket PC operating system, it is recommended that you restore PIM data from an older device by using Microsoft ActiveSync or Microsoft Outlook rather than hp backup. Synchronize your older hp handheld device with Microsoft Outlook on your desktop PC, and then establish a new partnership to transfer data to your new hp Jornada.
