TheiLOSharedNetworkPortusesthenetworkportlabeledNIC1ontherearpaneloftheserver whenSharedNetworkPort–LOMisselected,andthenetworkportlabeled1ontheShared NetworkPortEnabledStandupNICadapterifSharedNetworkPortEnabledStandupNICis selected.NICnumberingintheoperatingsystemcanbedifferentfromsystemnumbering.TheiLO SharedNetworkPortdoesnotincuraniLOperformancepenalty.PeakiLOtrafficislessthan2 Mb/s(onaNICcapableof1GB/sor10GB/sspeeds),andiLOtrafficvolumeislowunlessthe VirtualMediaorRemoteConsolefeatureisinuse. WhenusingtheiLOSharedNetworkPort,observethefollowing: •TheiLOSharedNetworkPortissupportedonallnonbladeservers. •YoucanusetheiLOSharedNetworkPortandtheiLODedicatedNetworkPortonlyforiLO servermanagement. •TheiLOSharedNetworkPortisnotanavailabilityfeature.Itspurposeistoallowmanaged networkportconsolidation. •Duetoserverauxiliary-powerbudgetlimitations,some1Gb/scoppernetworkadaptersused foriLOSharedNetworkPortfunctionalitymightrunat10/100speedwhentheserveris poweredoff.Toavoidthisissue,HPrecommendsconfiguringtheswitchtheiLOShared NetworkPortisconnectedtoforautonegotiation. IfyouwanttoconfiguretheiLOswitchforaspeedof1Gb/s,beawarethatsomecopper iLOSharedNetworkPortadaptersmightloseconnectivitywhentheserverispoweredoff. Connectivitywillreturnwhentheserverispoweredbackon. •TheiLOSharedNetworkPortandiLODedicatedNetworkPortcannotoperatesimultaneously. IfyouenabletheiLODedicatedNetworkPort,youwilldisabletheiLOSharedNetworkPort. IfyouenabletheiLOSharedNetworkPort,youwilldisabletheiLODedicatedNetworkPort. •DisablingtheiLOSharedNetworkPortdoesnotcompletelydisablethesystemNIC—network trafficstillpassesthroughtheNIC.WhentheiLOSharedNetworkPortisdisabled,anytraffic goingtoororiginatingfromiLOwillnotpassthroughtheiLOSharedNetworkPortbecause thatportisnolongersharedwithiLO. •UsingtheiLOSharedNetworkPortcancreateasinglefailurepoint.Iftheportfailsoris unplugged,boththehostandiLObecomeunavailabletothenetwork.
