    SharedNetworkPortdoesnotincuraniLOperformancepenalty.PeakiLOtrafficislessthan2
    Mb/s(onaNICcapableof1GB/sor10GB/sspeeds),andiLOtrafficvolumeislowunlessthe
    VirtualMediaorRemoteConsolefeatureisinuse.
    WhenusingtheiLOSharedNetworkPort,observethefollowing:
    •TheiLOSharedNetworkPortissupportedonallnonbladeservers.
    •YoucanusetheiLOSharedNetworkPortandtheiLODedicatedNetworkPortonlyforiLO
    servermanagement.
    •TheiLOSharedNetworkPortisnotanavailabilityfeature.Itspurposeistoallowmanaged
    networkportconsolidation.
    •Duetoserverauxiliary-powerbudgetlimitations,some1Gb/scoppernetworkadaptersused
    foriLOSharedNetworkPortfunctionalitymightrunat10/100speedwhentheserveris
    poweredoff.Toavoidthisissue,HPrecommendsconfiguringtheswitchtheiLOShared
    NetworkPortisconnectedtoforautonegotiation.
    IfyouwanttoconfiguretheiLOswitchforaspeedof1Gb/s,beawarethatsomecopper
    iLOSharedNetworkPortadaptersmightloseconnectivitywhentheserverispoweredoff.
    Connectivitywillreturnwhentheserverispoweredbackon.
    •TheiLOSharedNetworkPortandiLODedicatedNetworkPortcannotoperatesimultaneously.
    IfyouenabletheiLODedicatedNetworkPort,youwilldisabletheiLOSharedNetworkPort.
    IfyouenabletheiLOSharedNetworkPort,youwilldisabletheiLODedicatedNetworkPort.
    •DisablingtheiLOSharedNetworkPortdoesnotcompletelydisablethesystemNIC—network
    trafficstillpassesthroughtheNIC.WhentheiLOSharedNetworkPortisdisabled,anytraffic
    goingtoororiginatingfromiLOwillnotpassthroughtheiLOSharedNetworkPortbecause
    thatportisnolongersharedwithiLO.
    •UsingtheiLOSharedNetworkPortcancreateasinglefailurepoint.Iftheportfailsoris
    unplugged,boththehostandiLObecomeunavailabletothenetwork.
    EnablingtheiLOSharedNetworkPortfeature
    TheiLOSharedNetworkPortfeatureisdisabledbydefaultonserversthatareshippedwitha

    managementagentscanbeforwardedtoSNMPalertdestinationsthroughiLO.These
    alertsaregeneratedbytheInsightManagementAgents,whichareavailableforeach
    supportedoperatingsystem.InsightManagementAgentsmustbeinstalledonthehost
    servertoreceivethesealerts.
    •SNMPPass-thru—UseSNMPagentsrunningonthehostoperatingsystemtomanagethe
    server.SNMPrequestssentbytheclienttoiLOoverthenetworkarepassedtothehost
    operatingsystem.TheresponsesarethenpassedtoiLOandreturnedtotheclientover
    thenetwork.Alertsarenotaffectedbythissetting.
    4.Optional:ClickSendTestAlerttogenerateatestalertandsendittotheTCP/IPaddressesin
    theSNMPAlertDestination(s)boxes.
    TestalertsincludeanInsightManagementSNMPtrap,andareusedtoverifythenetwork

    Afterthealertisgenerated,aconfirmationdialogboxopens.ChecktheHPSIMconsolefor

    5.ClickApplytosavetheconfiguration.
    SNMPtraps
    YoucangeneratethefollowingSNMPtrapswithiLO3:
    •ALERT_TESTisusedtoverifythattheSNMPconfiguration,clientSNMPconsole,andnetwork
    areoperatingcorrectly.YoucanusetheiLOwebinterfacetogeneratethisalerttoverify
    receiptofthealertattheSNMPconsole.YoucanalsogeneratethisalertusingtheiLOOption
    ROMtoverifySNMPconfigurationsettings.
    •ALERT_SERVER_POWERoccurswhentheiLOmanagementprocessordetectsanunexpected
    transitionofthehostsystempower,eitherfromONtoOFF,orOFFtoON.Transitionsofthe
    hostsystempowerareunexpectedwhenthechangetakesplacebecauseofeventsunknown
    tothemanagementprocessor.Thisalertisnotgeneratedwhenthesystemispoweredupor
    downusingtheiLOwebinterface,CLI,RIBCLorothermanagementfeature.Iftheserveris
    powereddownbecauseoftheoperatingsystem,physicalpowerbuttonpresses,orother
