201 1Select the shooting mode. Press the < W> button and turn the < 6> or < 5> dial to select the shooting mode. 2Focus the subject. When you press the shutter button halfway, the camera will focus with the current AF mode (p.209). 3Take the picture. Press the shutter button completely. X The picture will be taken and the captured image is displayed on the LCD monitor. X After the image review ends, the camera will return to Live View shooting automatically. Press the < A> button to end the Live View shooting. A Shooting with the LCD Monitor The image’s field of view is approx. 100% (when th e image size is set to JPEG 3). The metering mode will be fixed to evaluative metering for Live View shooting. To check the depth of field, press the depth-of-field preview button. During continuous shooting , the exposure set for the first shot will also be applied to subsequent shots. If you switch from the d /s /f/ a/BULB shooting mode to the Custom shooting mode (or vice versa) (p.350), the Live Vi ew function display will end. Press the < A> button again. COPY

With a fully-charged Battery Pack LP-E4N, continuous Live View shooting is possible for appr ox. 2 hr. 30 min. at 23°C / 73°F. Te m p e r a t u r eAt 23°C / 73°FAt 0°C / 32°F Possible shots290250 During Live View shooting, do not point the lens toward the sun. The sun’s heat can dam age the camera’s in ternal components. Cautions for using Live View shooting are on pages 217-218. You can also focus by pressing the button. When flash is used, there will be tw o shutter sounds, but only one shot will be taken. If the camera is not operated for a prolonged period, the power will turn off automatically as set with [ 52: Auto power off ] (p.57). If [52: Auto power off] is set to [ Disable], Live View shooting will end automatically after 30 min. (camer a power remains on). With the stereo AV cable (provided) or HDMI cable (sold separately), you can display the Live View image on a TV (p.269, 272). COPY

You can display the electron ic level by pressing the button (p.62). Note that if th e AF mode is set to [u Live mode ] or the camera is connected to a TV set with an HDMI c able, the electronic level cannot be displayed. When < g> is displayed in white, it indi cates that the Live View image brightness is close to what the captured image will look like. If is blinking, it indicates that the Live View image is not being displayed at the suitable brightness du e to low- or bright-light conditions. However, the actual im age recorded will reflect the exposure setting. If flash is used or bulb is set, the < g> icon and histogram will be grayed out (for your reference). The histogra m may not be properly displayed in low- or br ight-light conditions. COPY
204 A Shooting with the LCD Monitor The final image simulation reflects the effects of the Picture Style, white balance, etc., in the Live View image so you can see what the captured image will look like. During shooting, the Live View im age will automatically reflect the function settings listed below. 205 While the Live View image is displayed, if you press the , < o >, , , < i >, , or < B> button, the setting screen will appear on the LC D monitor and you can turn the < 6 > or < 5> dial to set the respective shooting function. When f is set, you can press the < S> button to select the AF area selection mode and AF point. The pr ocedure is the same as with viewfinder shooting. Note that the < q> metering mode cannot be set. While the Live View image is di splayed, you can press the button to set the AF mode, drive mode, whit e balance, Picture Style, and Auto Lighting Optimizer. 1Press the < Q> button. XThe settable functions will be displayed. 2Select a function and set it. Use < 9> to select a function. X The setting of the selected function is displayed at the bottom. Turn the < 5> or < 6> dial to set it. The functions settable on this menu screen only apply during Live View shooting. These functions do not take effect during viewfinder shooting. LV z/k settingYou can set Live View shooting se ttings. For details, see page 200. AF modeYou can select [ Live mode] (p.209), [u Live mode] (p.210), or [ Quick mode ] (p.214). Grid displayBy displaying a [ 3x3 l] or [ 6x4 m] grid, you can check for any picture tilting. Also, with [ 3x3+diag n], the grid is displayed together with diagonal lines to help you align the intersections over the subject for better balance in the composition. 3 Menu Function Settings COPY
207 3 Menu Function Settings Exposure simulationExposure simulation displays and simu lates how the brightness of the actual image (exposure) will look. • Enable ( g) The displayed image brightness will be close to the actual brightness (exposure) of the resulting image. If you set exposure compensation, the image bri ghtness will change accordingly. • During eNormally, the image is display ed at the standard brightness to make the Live View image easy to see. The image will be displayed close to the actual brig htness (exposure) of the resulting image only while you hold down the depth-of-field preview button. • Disable ( E)The image is displayed at the standard brightness to make the Live View image easy to see. Even if you set exposure compensation, the Live View image is displa yed at the standard brightness. If you set an expanded ISO speed setting as [Maximum] in [ISO speed range ], Live View shooting will be po ssible under darker conditions. Even if a low ISO speed is set, noise may be noticeable in the displayed Live View image under low light. Ho wever, when you shoot, the image recorded will have minimal noise. (T he image quality of the Live View image is different from t hat of the recorded image.) COPY
208 3 Menu Function Settings Silent LV shooting• Mode 1The shooting operation noise is qui eter than with normal shooting. Continuous shooting is also possible. At < o>, the maximum continuous shooting speed will be approx. 12 shots/sec. At < K >, it will be approx. 14 shots/sec. • Mode 2When the shutter button is pressed completely, only one shot will be taken. While you keep holding down the shutter button, the camera operation will be suspended. Then when you return to the shutter button’s halfway positi on, the camera operation will resume. The shooting noise is thereby minimized. Even if continuous shooting is set, only a single shot will be taken. • DisableBe sure to set this function to [ Disable] if you use a TS-E lens (other than those listed in below) for shifting the lens vertically or if you use an Extension Tube. Setting it to [ Mode 1] or [Mode 2 ] will result in incorrect or irregular exposures. When you press the shutter button completely, the shutter will sound like it took two shots. However, only one shot will be taken. Metering timer You can change how long the exposure setting is displayed (AE lock time)\ . If you use flash, silent shooting w ill not be possible regardless of the [ Silent LV shoot. ] setting. When using a non-Canon flash un it, set this function to [Disable]. The flash will not fire if it is set to [ Mode 1] or [Mode 2 ]. If the ISO speed is set to ISO 32000 or higher (whe n the camera’s internal temperature is low, ISO 20000 or higher), the maximum continuous shooting speed at < o> will be approx. 10 shots/sec. (p.125). With the TS-E17mm f/4L or TS-E24mm f/3.5L II lens, you can use [Mode 1] or [Mode 2]. If you select [ z1: Set Custom WB ], [z 3: Dust Delete Data ], [53: Sensor cleaning ], [54: Clear all camera settings ], or [54: z Firmware ver. ], the Live View shooting will end. COPY
209 The AF modes available are [Live mode], [u Live mode ] (face detection, p.210), and [ Quick mode] (p.214). If you want to achieve precise focus, set the lens focus mode switch to \ < MF>, magnify the image, and focus manually (p.216). Select the AF mode. Under the [ z4] tab, select [AF mode ]. While the Live View image is displayed, you can also press the button to select the AF mode on the setting screen displayed. The image sensor is used to focus. Although AF is possible with the Live View image displayed, the AF operation will take longer than with the Quick mode. Also, achieving focus may be more difficult than with the Quick mode. 1Display the Live View image. Press the < A> button. X The Live View image will appear on the LCD monitor. X The AF point < > will appear. 2Move the AF point. You can use to move the AF point to where you want to focus. (It cannot go to the edges of the picture.) 210 Using AF to Focus 3Focus the subject. Aim the AF point over the subject and press the shutter button halfway. X When focus is achieved, the AF point will turn green a nd the beeper will sound. X If focus is not achieved, the AF point will turn orange. 4Take the picture. Check the focus and exposure, then press the shutter button completely to take the picture (p.201). With the same AF method as the Live mode, human faces are detected and focused. Have the target person face the camera. 1Display the Live View image. Press the < A> button. X The Live View image will appear on the LCD monitor. When a face is detected, the < p> frame will appear over the face to be focused. If multiple faces are detected, will be displayed.
