24 1Remove the protective cover. 2Attach the battery. As shown in the illustration, attach the battery securely. To detach the battery, follow the above procedure in reverse. 3Recharge the battery. For LC-E6 As shown by the arrow, flip out the battery charger’s prongs and insert the prongs into a power outlet. For LC-E6E Connect the power cord to the charger and insert the plug into the power outlet. X Recharging starts automatically and the charge lamp blinks in orange. It takes about 2.5 hour s to fully recharge a completely exhausted battery at 23°C / 73°F. The time re quired to recharge the battery depends on the ambient temperat ure and battery’s charge level. For safety reasons, rechar ging in low temperatures (5°C - 10°C / 41°F - 50°F) will take a longer time (up to 4 hours). 25 Charging the Battery Recharge the battery on the day before or on the day it is to be used.Even during non-use or storage, a charged battery will gradually discharge and lose its power. After recharging the battery, detach it and unplug the power cord or prongs from the power outlet. You can attach the cover in a different orientation to indicate whether the battery has been recharged or not. If the battery has been recharged, attach the cover so that the bat tery-shaped hole < > is aligned over the blue sticker on the battery. If the battery is exhausted, attach the cover in the opposite orientation. When not using the camera, remove the battery. If the battery is left in the camera for a prolonged period, a small amount of power current is released, result ing in excess discharge and shorter battery life. Store the battery with t he protective cover attached. Storing the battery after it is fully charg ed can lower the battery’s performance. The battery charger can also be used in foreign countries. The battery charger is compatible with a 100 V AC to 240 V AC 50/ 60 Hz power source. If necessary, attach a commercially-available plug adapter for the respective coun try or region. Do not attach any portable voltage transformer to the battery charger. Doing so can damage the battery charger. If the battery becomes exhausted quickly even after being fully charged, the batt ery has worn out. Purchase a new battery. Tips for Using the Battery and Charger After disconnecting the charger’s powe r plug, do not touch the charger power plug (prongs) for at least 3 sec. If the battery’s remaining capacity (p .212) is 94% or higher, the battery will not be recharged. The charger cannot charg e any battery other than Battery Pack LP-E6. COPY
26 Load a fully charged Battery Pack LP-E6 into the camera. 1Open the battery compartment cover. Slide the lever as shown by the arrow and open the cover. 2Insert the battery. Insert the end with the battery contacts. Insert the battery until it locks in place. 3Close the cover. Press the cover until it snaps shut. Open the cover and remove the battery. Press the battery release lever as shown by the arrow and remove the battery. To prevent short circuiting, be sure to attach the protective cover to the battery. Installing and Removing the Battery Installing the Battery Removing the Battery Only the Battery Pack LP-E6 can be used. Whenever you set the power switch to < 1/J> or < 2>, the sensor cleaning will be executed automatically. During the sensor cleaning, the LCD monitor will display < f>. Even during the sensor cleaning, you can still shoo t by pressing the shutter button halfway (p.35) to stop the sens or cleaning and take a picture. If you turn on/off the power switch < 1/J>/< 2 > at a short interval, the < f> icon might not be displayed. This is normal and not a problem. To save battery power, the camera turns off automatically after about 1 minute of non-operation. To turn on the camera again, just press the shutter button halfway (p.35). You can change the auto power-off time with the menu’s [ 5 Auto power off ] setting (p.44). Pressing the shutter button halfway fo r long periods or operating only the autofocus can also reduce th e number of possible shots. The number of possible shots will de crease with more frequent use of the LCD monitor. The lens operation is powered by t he camera’s battery. Depending on the lens used, the number of possible shots may be lower. Using the Image Stabilizer of the le ns will decrease the number of possible shots (sho rter battery life). For battery life with Live View shooting, see page 112. See the [ 7 Battery info.] menu to further check the battery’s condition (p.212). 29 Although the thickness is different between the two types of CF (CompactFlash) cards, either on e can be inserted into the camera. Also, Ultra DMA (UDMA) cards and hard disk-type cards can be used. 1Open the cover. Slide the cover as shown by the arrow to open it. 2Insert the card. As shown in the illustration, face the label side toward you and insert the end with the small holes into the camera. If the card is inserted in the wrong way, it may damage the camera. XThe card ejection button will stick out. 3Close the cover. Close the cover and slide it in the direction shown by the arrow until it snaps shut. X When you set the power switch to or < J>, the number of remaining shots will be displayed on the LCD panel. Installing and Removing the CF Card Installing the Card Label side Card ejection button Possible shots The number of possible shots depends on the remaining capacity of the card, image-recording quality, ISO speed, etc. Setting the [ 1 Shoot w/o card ] menu option to [ Off] will prevent you from forgetting to in stall a card (p.220). 30 Installing and Removing the CF Card 1Open the cover. Set the power switch to . Make sure the access lamp is off, then open the cover. 2Remove the card. Press the card ejection button. X The card will come out. Close the cover. Removing the Card Access lamp Card ejection button The access lamp lights or blinks while the picture is taken, when data is being transferred to th e card and when data is being recorded, read, or erase d on the card. While the access lamp is lit or blinking, never do any of the following. Doing so may damage the image data. It may also damage the card or camera. • Opening the card slot cover. • Removing the battery. • Shaking or banging the camera around. If the card already contains record ed images, the image number might not start from 0001 (p.74). If a card-related error me ssage is displayed on the LCD monitor, remove and reinstall the card. If the erro r persists, use a different card. If you can transfer all the images in the card to a personal computer, transfer all the im ages and then format the card. The card may then return to normal. When holding a hard disk-type card , always hold its sides. You may damage the card by holding its flat surfaces. Compared to CF cards, hard disk-type cards are more vulnerable to vibration and physical shock. If you use such a card, be ca reful not to subject the camera to vibration or physical shock especial ly while recording or displaying images. COPY
