171 Printing Images and TransferringImages to a Computer Printing (p.172) You can connect the camera directly to a printer and print out the images in the card. The camera is compatible with “w PictBridge” which is the standard for direct printing. Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) (p.181) DPOF (Digital Print Order Fo rmat) enables you to print images recorded in the card according to your printing instructions such as the image selection, quantity to print, etc. You can print multiple images in one batch or give the print order to a photofinisher. Transferring Images to a Personal Computer (p.185) By connecting the camera to a personal computer, you can transfer images from the camera’s card by operating the camera. COPY
172 The direct printing procedure is done entirely with the camera while looking at the LCD monitor. 1Set the camera’s power switch to . 2Set up the printer. For details, see the printer’s instruction manual. 3Connect the camera to the printer. Use the interface cable provided with the camera. When connecting the cable plug to the camera’s < D> terminal, the cable plug’s < D> icon must face the front side of the camera. 173 Preparing to Print 6Playback the image. Press the button. X The image will appear, and the < w> icon will appear on the upper left to indicate that the camera is connected to a printer. X The < l> button lamp will light in blue.wPictBridge Movies cannot be printed. The camera cannot be used with printers compatible only with CP Direct or Bubble Jet Direct. Do not use any interface cable other than the one provided. If there is a long beeping sound in st ep 5, it indicates a problem with the printer. To find out what’s wrong, do the following: 1. Press the < x> button to play back the image. 2. Press < 0>. 3. On the print setti ng screen, select [Print]. The error message will be displayed on the LCD monitor (p.180). You can also print RAW imag es taken by this camera. If you use the battery to power the came ra, make sure it is fully charged. With a fully-charged batt ery, printing up to about 3.5 hours is possible. Before disconnecting the cable, turn off the camera and printer first. Hold the plug (not the cord) to pull out the cable. For direct printing, using the AC Adap ter Kit ACK-E6 (sold separately) to power the camera is recommended. COPY

175 wPrinting Select the size of the paper loaded in the printer, then press < 0>. X The paper type screen will appear. Select the type of the paper loaded in the printer, then press < 0>. When using a Canon printer and Canon paper, read the printer’s instruction manual to check what paper types can be used. X The page layout screen will appear. Select the page layout, then press . X The print setting screen will reappear. * From the Exif data, the camera name, lens name, shooting mode, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensat ion amount, ISO speed, white balance, etc., will be imprinted. If your printer cannot print borderless prints, the print will have borders. 176 wPrinting 4Set the printing effects. Set as necessary. If you need not set any printing effects, go to step 5. The screen display may differ depending on the printer. Select the option on the upper right, then press < 0>. Select the desired printing effect with the dial, then press < 0>. If the < e> icon is displayed next to < z >, you can also adjust the printing effect (p.178). * When you change the printing effects, it is reflected in the image displayed on the upper left. Note that the printed imag e might look slightly different from the displayed image which is only an approximation. This also applies to [Brightness] and [Adjust levels] on page 178. Item Description EOnThe image will be printed according to the printer’s standard colors. The image’s Exif data is used to make automatic corrections. EOffNo automatic correction will be performed. EVividThe image will be printed with higher saturation to produce more vivid blues and greens. ENRThe image noise is redu ced before printing. 0 B/WPrints in black-and-white with true blacks. 0 Cool tonePrints in black-and-white with cool, bluish blacks. 0 Warm tonePrints in black-and-white wi th warm, yellowish blacks. zNaturalPrints the image in the actu al colors and contrast. No automatic color adjustments will be applied. z Natural MThe printing characteristics are the same as the “Natural” setting. However, this setti ng enables finer printing adjustments than with “Natural.” EDefaultThe printing will differ dependin g on the printer. For details, see the printer’s instruction manual. COPY
177 wPrinting 5Set the date and file number imprinting. Set as necessary. Select , then press . Set as desired, then press < 0>. 6Set the number of copies. Set as necessary. Select < R>, then press < 0>. Set the number of copies, then press . 7Start printing. Select [Print ], then press < 0>. X The < l> button’s blue lamp will blink and the printing will start. With Easy printing, you can print another image with the same settings. Just select the im age and press the button lit in blue. With Easy printing, the number of copies will always be 1. (You cannot set the number of copies.) Also, any tri mming (p.179) will not be applied. The [ Default ] setting for printing effect s and other options are the printer’s own default settings as set by the printer’s manufacturer. See the printer’s instru ction manual to find out what the [ Default] settings are. Depending on the im age’s file size and image-recording quality, it may take some time for the printing to start after you select [Print]. If image tilt correction (p.179) has been applied, it will take longer to print the image. To stop the printing, press < 0> while [Stop ] is displayed, then select [ OK ]. COPY
178 wPrinting In step 4 on page 176, select the printing effect. When the < e> icon is displayed next to < z>, press the < B> button. You can then adjust the printing effect. What can be adjusted or what is displayed will depend on the selection made in step 4. Brightness The image brightness can be adjusted. Adjust levels When you select [ Manual], you can change the histogram’s distribution and adjust the image’s brightness and contrast. With the Adjust levels screen displayed, press the < B> button to change the position of the < h>. Turn the < 5> dial to freely adjust the shadow level (0 - 127) or highlight level (128 - 255). kBrightener Effective in backlit conditions which can make the subject’s face look dark. When [ On] is set, the face will be brightened for printing. Red-eye corr. Effective in flash images where t he subject has red eye. When [On] is set, the red eye will be corrected for printing. e Adjustment of Printing Effects The [kBrightener ] and [Red-eye corr. ] effects will not show up on the screen. When you select [ Detail set.], you can adjust the [ Contrast], [ Saturation], [ Color tone], and [Color balance ]. To adjust the [ Color balance ], use < 9>. B is for blue, A is ambe r, M is magenta, and G is green. The color in the respective direction will be corrected. If you select [ Clear all], all the printing effect se ttings will be reverted to the default. COPY
179 wPrinting You can crop the image and print only the trimmed portion as if the image was recomposed. Do the trimming right before printing. If you set the trimming and then set the print settings, you may have to set the trimming again. 1 On the print setting screen, select [Trimming]. 2 Set the trimming frame si ze, position, and proportion. The image area within the trimming frame will be printed. The trimming frame’s vertical-to-horizontal proportion can be changed with [ Paper settings]. Changing the trimming frame size When you press the < u> or < I > button, the size of the trimming frame will change. The sm aller the trimming frame, the larger the image magnificati on will be for the printing. Moving the trimming frame Use to move the frame over the image vertically or horizontally. Move the trimming frame until it covers the desired image area or composition\ . Rotating the frameEach time you press the button, the trimming frame will toggle between the vertical and horizontal or ientations. This enables you to create a vertical-oriented print from a horizontal image. Image tilt correction By turning the < 5> dial, you can adjust the image tilt angle by ±10 degrees in 0.5-degree increm ents. When you adjust the image tilt, the < O> icon on the screen will turn blue. 3 Press < 0> to exit the trimming. X The print setting screen will reappear. 180 wPrinting Depending on the printer , the trimmed image area might not be printed as you specified. The smaller you make the trimming fr ame, the grainier the picture will look on the print. While trimming the image, look at th e camera’s LCD monitor. If you look at the image on a TV sc reen, the trimming frame might not be displayed accurately. Handling Printer ErrorsIf you resolve a printer error (no in k, no paper, etc.) and select [Continue] to resume printing but it doe s not resume, operate the bu ttons on the printer to resume printing. For de tails, see the printer’s instruction manual. Error MessagesIf a problem occurs during printing, an error me ssage will appear on the camera’s LCD monitor. Press to stop printing . After fixing the problem, resume prin ting. For details on how to fix a printing problem, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. Paper Error Check whether the paper is pr operly loaded in the printer. Ink Error Check the printer’s ink level, and check the waste ink tank. Hardware Error Check for any printer problems ot her than paper and ink problems. File Error The selected image cannot be printed via PictBr idge. Images taken with a different camera or images edited with a computer might not be printable. COPY
