Fax
Send a Fax (Brother PC-FAX)—enables you to scan a page or 
document and automat ically send the image as a f ax from the PC 
using t he Brother PC-FAX software.
Custom
Scan to File—These butt ons have been pre-programmed for the 
Scan to File feat ure. You can change t he conf igurat ion of each of 
these buttons to meet your specific requirements by right-clicking on 
a button and following the configuration menus.

Scan to File
The Scan to File button allows you to scan an image and save it in a 
specif ic file type to any directory on your hard disk. This allows you 
to easily archive your paper documents. To configure the f ile type 
and save t o direct ory right-click on the Scan t o File button and click 
Conf iguration.
The Scan Action t ab is set to File and should not  be changed.

To change the configuration click on the Configuration tab.
Select the file type for the saved image by selecting from the Format 
pull down list. You can save the file to the default PaperPort folder so 
the f ile appears in PaperPort, or you can select  another 
folder/direct ory by clicking the Browse button. 
You can change the default setting by selecting the Other Folder 
button and then clicking Browse and...

Scan to E-mail
The Scan to E-mail is automatically configured to your default E-mail 
application. To change the def ault E-mail application or att achment 
file type, right-click on t he E-mail button and select “Configuration”.
The Scan Action t ab is set to E-mail and should not be changed.
To change the E-mail application click on the Configuration tab. From 
the Application pull down list, select your pref erred...

To change the file t ype of the attachment click t he Link Preferences 
button to set  up links.   Check the Convert attachment to specified 
file type box and then select the appropriate f ile type from the pull 
down list.

File attachments
Items are mailed as file att achments using the file t ype you have 
selected. 
Convert att achments to specified file t ype—Click this check box if 
you want to change the f ile type of  attachments. 
All documents and image it ems—Click this check box if you want to 
convert all scanned images t o the same file type.
PaperPort image items (MAX) only—Click this check box if you want

Scanner settings
You have the abilit y to change the scanner sett ings used to create 
the f ile attachments. Click on the Scan Set tings tab and select the 
appropriate settings.

Scan to OCR (Word Processing 
program)
Scan to O CR converts the graphic page image data to text which can 
be edited by any word processor program. You can change the 
default word processor program (example: Word Pad instead of 
Word) and file type. You can also choose anot her O CR software 
package besides the Text Bridge OCR which is built  into PaperPort.

To change the program link preferences click the Link Preferences 
button.
File Type—From the pull-down list, select the file format you want to 
use for document s. 
OCR—Select the OCR application f rom the OCR pull down list.

Scan to Graphics application 
(example: Microsoft Paint)
The Scan to Graphics Application allows you to scan an image so 
you can edit the image. To change the def ault graphics application 
right-click on the button and select  Configuration.
The Scan Action tab is set to Applicat ion and should not be changed.
To change the configuration of the destination application click on 
the Configuration Tab.
