Using the Brother printer driver with 
your Apple
® Macintosh® 
(Mac OS
® 8.6-9.2)
To select a Printer:
1Open the Chooser from the Apple menu.
2Click the Brothe r Las er icon. On t he right side of  the Chooser 
window,  click t he printer you want to print to. Close the 
Chooser.

To print a document:
1From the application software such as Prest o!® PageManager®, 
click File menu and select Pag e Setu p. You can change the 
settings for Paper Size, Orientation, and Scaling, and then 
click OK.
2From applicat ion software such as Presto!® PageManager®, 
click File menu and select Pr int. Click Pr int to start printing.
 If you want to change Copies, Pages, Resolution, Paper Source 
and Media Type, select your settings before clicking Print.

Device Options allows you to select Duplex.
Automatic Duplex is only available with the MFC-8820D and 
MFC-8820DN.

Choosing page setup options
1From applicat ion software such as Presto!® PageManager®, 
click the Fil e menu and select Page Setup. Make sure 
MFC-8420, MFC-8820D or MFC-8820DN is selected in the 
Format for pop-up menu. You can change the settings for 
Paper Size, Orientation and Scaling, then click OK.

click File menu and select...

Press Copies & Pages to select sett ings you want to change.

Open the Apple  Ex tras folder. Open the Appl e LaserWriter 
Software folder.
For Mac O S
® 9.1 to 9. 2 Users:
Open the Applications (Mac OS
® 9) folder. Open the Utilities 
folder*.
* The screens are based on Mac
® OS 9.04.

2O pen the Desktop Printer Utility icon.
3Select Pr int er (USB), and then click OK.

4Click Change... in the  Po stScr iptTM Printer Description (PPD) 
file.
Select Brother MFC-8820D,  and then click Select.
5Click Change... in the USB Printer Selection.
Select Brother MFC-8820D,  and then click OK.

6Click Create....
7Enter your MFC name (MFC-8820D), and then click Sa ve.
8Select Quit from the File menu.
9Click the MFC-8820D icon on the Desktop.
