Polling69 10 Setup to receive delayed polling10 Delayed polling lets you set the machine to begin polling receive at a later time. You can only set up one delayed polling operation. aPress ( Fax). bPress aor b to choose Polling RX . cPress dor c to choose Timer. Press OK. dEnter the time (in 24-hour format) you want to start polling. For example, enter 21:45 for 9:45 PM. Press OK. eEnter the fax number you are polling. fPress Mono Start or Colour Start . The machine makes the polling call at the time you entered. Sequential polling (Monochrome only)10 Sequential polling lets you request documents from several fax machines in one operation. aPress ( Fax). bPress aor b to choose Polling RX . cPress dor c to choose Standard, Secure or Timer . Press OK. dDo one of the following: „ If you chose Standard, press OK and then go to step e. „ If you chose Secure, press OK and then enter a four-digit number. Press OK, go to step e. „ If you chose Timer, press OK and then enter the time (24-hour format) you want to begin polling. Press OK, go to step e. ePress aor b to choose Broadcasting . Press OK. fDo one of the following: „ Press aor b to choose Add Number and enter a number using the dial pad. Press OK. „ Press aor b to choose Speed Dial and OK. Press aor b to choose Alphabetical Order or Numerical Order and OK. Press a or b to select a number and OK. gAfter you have entered all the fax numbers by repeating steps f, press a or b to choose Complete. Press OK. hPress Mono Start . The machine polls each number or group in turn for a document. Press Stop/Exit while the machine is dialling to cancel the polling process. Chapter 10 70 Polled transmit (Monochrome only) 10 Polled transmit lets you set up your machine to wait with a document so another fax machine can call and retrieve it. The document will be stored and can be retrieved by any other fax machine until you delete it from the memory. (See Checking and cancelling waiting jobs on page 35.) Setup for polled transmit with secure code10 Secure Polling lets you restrict who can get the documents you set up to be polled. Secure Polling only works with Brother fax machines. The LCD shows: 1 No. of Copies You can enter the number of copies you want by using the dial pad. Making copies73 11 Copy settings11 You can change the copy settings temporarily for the next multiple copies. The machine returns to its default settings after 1 minute, or if the Mode Timer returns the machine to Fax mode. (See Mode Timer on page 22.) If you have finished choosing settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . If you want to choose more settings, press a or b. Note You can save some of the settings that you use most often by setting them as default. These settings will stay until you change them again. (See Setting your changes as a new default on page 79.) Changing copy speed and quality11 You can choose from a range of quality. The factory setting is Normal. „ Fast Fast copy speed and lowest amount of ink used. Use to save time printing documents to be proof-read, large documents or many copies. „ Normal Normal is the recommended mode for ordinary print outs. This produces good copy quality with good copy speed. „ Best Use best mode to copy precise images such as photographs. This provides the highest resolution and slowest speed. aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Quality. ePress dor c to choose Fast, Normal or Best . Press OK. fIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start .

If you choose Fit to Page, your machine will adjust the size automatically to the paper size you set. aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Enlarge/Reduce . ePress dor c to choose 100%, Enlarge , Reduce , Fit to Page or Custom(25-400%) . fDo one of the following: „ If you chose Enlarge or Reduce , press OK and press dor c to choose the enlargement or reduction ratio you want. Press OK. „ If you chose Custom(25-400%) , press OK and then enter an enlargement or reduction ratio from 25% to 400% . Press OK. „ If you chose 100% or Fit to Page , go to step g. gIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . Note •Page Layout is not available with Enlarge/Reduce . • Book Copy , Sort and Watermark Copy are not available with Fit to Page . • Fit to Page does not work properly when the document on the scanner glass is skewed more than 3 degrees. Using the document guidelines on the left and top, place your document in the upper left hand corner, with the document face down on the scanner glass. • Fit to Page is not available for a Legal size document. Making N in 1 copies or a poster (Page Layout) 11 The N in 1 copy feature can help you save paper by letting you copy two or four pages onto one printed page. You can also produce a poster. When you use the poster feature your machine divides your document into sections, then enlarges the sections so you can assemble them into a poster. If you want to print a poster, use the scanner glass. Important „ Make sure paper size is set to Letter or A4. „ You cannot use the Enlarge/Reduce setting with the N in 1 and Poster features. „ If you are producing multiple colour copies, N in 1 copy is not available. „ (P) means Portrait and (L) means Landscape. „ You can only make one poster copy at a time. 100% 198% 10x15cm iA4 186% 10x15cm iLTR 142% A5 iA4 97% LTR iA4 93% A4 iLTR 83% LGL iA4 69% A4 iA5 47% A4 i10x15cm Fit to Page Custom(25-400%)

If you placed the document in the ADF or are making a poster, the machine scans the pages and starts printing. If you are using the scanner glass, go to step g. gAfter the machine scans the page, press 1 to scan the next page. hPut the next page on the scanner glass. Press OK. Repeat steps g and h for each page of the layout. iAfter all the pages have been scanned, press 2 to finish. Place the document face down in the direction shown below: „ 2 in 1 (P) „2 in 1 (L) „4 in 1 (P) „4 in 1 (L) „Poster (3 x 3) You can make a poster size copy of a photograph.

Pages will be stacked in the order 321, 321, 321, and so on. aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Stack/Sort . ePress dor c to choose Sort. Press OK. fIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . Note Fit to Page , Page Layout and Book Copy are not available with Sort. Adjusting Brightness and Contrast11 Brightness11 You can adjust the copy brightness to make copies darker or lighter. aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Brightness . ePress dor c to make a darker or lighter copy. Press OK. fIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . Contrast11 You can adjust the copy contrast to help an image look sharper and more vivid. aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Contrast. ePress dor c to change the contrast. Press OK. fIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start .
Making copies77 11 Paper Options11 Paper Type11 If you are copying on special paper, set the machine for the type of paper you are using to get the best print quality. aPress (Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Paper Type . ePress dor c to choose Plain Paper , Inkjet Paper , Brother BP71 , Other Glossy or Transparency . Press OK. fIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . Paper Size11 If copying on paper other than A4 size, you will need to change the paper size setting. You can copy only on Letter, Legal, A4, A5 or Photo 10 cm ×15 cm paper. aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Paper Size . ePress dor c to choose A4, A5 , 10x15cm , Letter or Legal . Press OK. fIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . Book Copy11 Book copy corrects dark borders and skew. Your machine can correct the data automatically or you can make specific corrections. If you use this setting, use the scanner glass. aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Book Copy . eDo one of the following: „ If you want to correct the data yourself, press dor c to choose On(Preview) . Press Mono Start or Colour Start and go to step f. „ If you want the machine to correct the data automatically, press dor c to choose On and go to step g. fAdjust the skewed data by using #or l. Remove the shadows by using aor b. gIf you have finished making corrections, press Mono Start or Colour Start . Note Book Copy is not available with Page Layout , Sort , Fit to Page or Watermark Copy .
Chapter 11 78 Watermark Copy11 You can place a logo or text into your document as a Watermark. You can select one of the template watermarks, data from your media cards or USB Flash memory drive, or scanned data. Note Watermark Copy is not available with Fit to Page , Page Layout and Book Copy . Using a template11 aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aorb to choose Watermark Copy. Press OK. ePress dor c to choose On. fPress aor b to choose Current Setting . Press OK. gPress aor b to choose Template. Press OK. hChange the settings from the options displayed on the LCD if required. iIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . Using media cards or a USB Flash memory drive data 11 aPress ( Copy). bLoad your document. cEnter the number of copies you want. dPress aor b to choose Watermark Copy . Press OK. ePress dor c to choose On. fPress aor b to choose Current Setting . Press OK. gInsert a media card or USB Flash memory drive. Press aor b to choose Media . hPress OK and then press dor c to choose the data you want to use for the watermark. iPress OK and change any additional settings from the options shown on the LCD. jIf you do not want to change additional settings, press Mono Start or Colour Start . CAUTION DO NOT take out the memory card or USB Flash memory drive while Photo Capture is blinking to avoid damaging the card, USB Flash memory drive or data stored on the card.
