Setting Protocols
When the printer is shipped from the factory, all protocols except FTP are active by default. Normally 
if you are connecting a new printer to a network for the first time, you will not need to perform the 
operations described in this section. If you need to change any of the default protocol settings, follow 
the steps outlined in this section.
The printer settings are completed. Proceed to Confirming Settings on page 1-9.

Confirming Settings
Print the printer settings list to check the content of printer settings.
The printer settings list also contains information that is required when configuring computers for printing. 
Use the list to confirm that settings on the printer and the computer match.

Turning the Printer On and Off
Turn the Printer On
To turn the printer on, follow the steps below.
1On the printers right side, press the side of the 
power switch marked I to turn the printer on. The 
printer starts.
The printer motors warm up for 1 or 2 minutes when 
you turn the printer on.
2Testing appears on the control panel. When the 
display changes from

Turn the Printer Off
To turn the printer off, follow the steps below.
1Confirm that Ready to Print is displayed on the 
control panel.
Do not turn the printer off in the following situations:
■Data Wait is displayed on the control panel.
■The Ready lamp is blinking.
■The Alarm lamp is on. See The Alarm Indicator 
is On or Flashing on page 5-22.
2On the printers right side, press the side of the 
power switch marked O to turn the printer off. The 
printer is now off.

Installing the Printer Driver for Windows®
The printer driver is software that translates print and command instructions from the format used by a 
computer to the format that a particular printer needs.
When using the printer locally, install the printer driver on the computer connected to it. To share a printer 
through a network, install the printer driver on every computer connected to the network.
