19 MAKING COPIES Interrupt INTERRUPTING A COPY RUN INTERRUPT can be used to temporarily stop a long copy run so that another job can be run. lReduction/enlargement/zoom, exposure adjustments, dual page copying, edge erase, and margin shift can be selected during interrupt copying. lDuplex copying, sort, group, and staple sort cannot be selected during interrupt copying. lINTERRUPT will not function during duplex copying or when an optional auditor (SF-EA12) is used and the copier has been programmed in the auditing mode. Interrupting a copy run 1 Press the INTERRUPT key. lThe copier will return to the initial settings. lIf this copier has been programmed in the auditing mode using auditing program No.10, ÒÐ Ð Ó will appear in the copy quantity display. Enter your account number using the 10-key pad. The number of copies of the interrupt copying will be accumulated against this account number. See page 8. lWhen an optional document feeder (ADF or RADF) is being used, the copier will stop after completing the copying of the originals which have been fed into the document feeder. 2 When the copier stops, remove the original(s) and place the original for interrupt copying on the document glass. Close the document cover. lIf an optional document feeder (ADF or RADF) is installed, place the originals face up in the document feeder tray. 3 Select the desired available copier functions. 4 Press the START key. 5 When the interrupt copy run is complete, press the INTERRUPT key again to cancel the mode and remove the original(s) used for interrupt copying. lThe copier will reset itself to the functions which were in use before the INTERRUPT key was first pressed. 6 Replace the original(s) for the interrupted job and press the START key to resume copying. 20 MAKING COPIES Automatic exposure adjustment AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE ADJUSTMENT The automatic exposure level can be adjusted to suit your copying needs. 1 Ensure that the copier is in the AUTO exposure mode. 2 Open the front cover. 3 Press and hold the EXPOSURE key for more than 3 seconds. lOne or two exposure indicators corresponding to the automatic exposure level which has been selected will light up. The factory default setting is level Ò3Ó. 4 Press the LIGHT or DARK key to lighten or darken the automatic exposure level as desired. 5 Close the front cover. lThis automatic exposure level will remain in effect until you change it again by this procedure. 21 MAKING COPIES Toner save mode TONER SAVE MODE This mode reduces toner consumption, increasing cost effective- ness, with only a slight loss in copy density. Follow the procedure below for setting the toning level. 1 Press the EXPOSURE key to select the PHOTO mode. 2 Open the front cover. 3 Press and hold the EXPOSURE key for more than 3 seconds. lThe exposure indicator marked Ò3Ó will light up, indicating that the standard toner mode is active. 4 To enter the toner save mode, press the LIGHT key. lThe exposure indicator marked Ò1Ó will light up, indicating that the toner save mode is selected. 5 Close the front cover and press the EXPOSURE key to select the desired exposure mode. lTo return to the standard mode, repeat the procedure but use the DARK key to select exposure level Ò3Ó in step 4. 22 STATUS INDICATORS When a misfeed occurs, the copier will stop. The misfeed ( ) indicator will blink and blinking red misfeed location indicators will indicate the approximate misfeed location.If paper becomes accidentally torn during removal, be sure to remove all pieces. Be careful not to damage the photoconductive drum or the corona wires. First confirm the misfeed locations. For misfeeds in optional equipment, see the cor- responding sections of this manual. 23 STATUS INDICATORS MISFEED REMOVAL Misfeed removal Misfeed in a paper tray 1 Open the side cover. NOTE: If the transport area misfeed indicator is lighted, clear the transport area first. (See below, ÒMisfeed in the transport area.Ó) 2 Remove the misfed paper. lBe careful not to tear the misfed paper during removal. 3 If the paper cannot be seen from the side, pull out the paper tray and remove the misfed paper. lBe careful not to tear the misfed paper during removal. 4 Close the paper tray and the side cover. lConfirm that theindicator has gone out. 24 STATUS INDICATORS 2 Turn the transport lever to the left. 3 Turn the roller rotating knob in the direction of the arrow to remove the misfed paper. 4 Turn the transport lever back into place. 5 Close the front cover. lConfirm that theindicator has gone out. 25 STATUS INDICATORS 2 Turn the roller rotating knob in the direction of the arrow and remove the paper from the fusing unit area. CAUTION The fusing unit is hot! Use care in removing paper. 3 If the misfed paper is in the exit area, open the exit area cover carefully. lOpen the cover by pulling the lever up. Support it until fully open. lIf an optional sorter is installed, slide it away from the copier and then open the cover. 4 Turn the roller rotating knob in the direction of the arrow and remove the paper. lIf the misfed paper is deep in the fusing unit, lift the fusing unit tab and remove any misfed paper. CAUTION The fusing unit is hot! Be sure to touch only the green tab or the green roller rotating knob. 5 Close the exit area cover. 6 Close the front cover. lConfirm that theindicator has gone out. 26 STATUS INDICATORS MISFEED REMOVAL Misfeed in the duplex module lThe duplex module is optional. NOTE: If any other misfeed locations are indicated, be sure to remove any misfed paper from these locations before performing the procedure described below. If not, a sheet of paper in another location may become torn and difficult to remove. 1 Pull out the duplex module. 2 Lift up the upper and lower paper guides, and remove the misfed paper. lWhen a misfeed occurs between the paper guides, open the upper paper guide and remove the misfed paper. 3 Close the paper guides and push back the duplex module. lConfirm that theindicator has gone out. 27 STATUS INDICATORS 1 Open the toner collecting container cover. 2 Disengage and remove the container from the copier by pushing downward and then pulling it out. lToner cannot be reused. Do not transfer used toner to the toner hopper. lRemove the cap from a new toner collecting container and use it to cover the full toner collecting container. lKeep the full toner collecting container until the next regular service call. Your authorized Sharp Service Technician will collect the container for disposal. 3 Install the new toner collecting container by pushing it down onto the spring-loaded tray and then allowing it to move upward and click into place. 4 Close the toner collecting container cover. Used toner disposal USED TONER DISPOSAL The toner collecting container full () indicator will blink when the toner collecting container is full. The copier will stop and will not operate until a new toner collecting container has been installed. Replace the toner collecting container as described below. 28 STATUS INDICATORS When the developer replacement required () indicator lights up, the developer should be replaced. DEVELOPER REPLACEMENT SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY AN AUTHORIZED SHARP SERVICE TECHNICIAN. Contact your Service Center as soon as possible.
