    Setting Up the Printer 
    Set up for your printer will be different depending on which 
    cable you use to connect the pr inter to your computer—the 
    network cable or the USB cable.
    For a Network-connected
    NOTE: Some printers do not support a network 
    interface. Before connecting your printer, make sure 
    that your printer supports  a network interface by 
    referring to Printer Specifications in your Printer User’s 
    Guide.
    1Follow the instructions on “Installing Software” on page 37 
    to install the PPD and Filter files on your computer.
    2Open the Applications folder → Utilities, and Print 
    Setup Utility
    .
    • For MAC OS 10.5~10.6, open 
    System Preferences from 
    the 
    Applications folder, and click Print & Fax.
    3Click Add on the Printer List.
    • For MAC OS 10.5~10.6, press the “
    +” icon then a display 
    window will pop up. 
    4For MAC OS 10.3, select the IP Printing tab. 
    • For MAC OS 10.4, click 
    IP Printer.
    • For MAC OS 10.5~10.6, click 
    IP.
    5Select Socket/HP Jet Direct in Printer Type.
    WHEN PRINTING A DOCUMENT CONTAINING MANY 
    PAGES, PRINTING PERFORMANCE MAY BE 
    ENHANCED BY CHOOSING SOCKET FOR PRINTER 
    TYPE OPTION. 
    6Enter the printer’s IP address in the Printer Address 
    field.
    7Enter the queue name in the Queue Name field. If you 
    cannot determine the queue name for your printer server, 
    try using the default queue first.
    8For MAC OS 10.3, if Auto Select does not work properly, 
    select 
    Samsung in Printer Model and your printer 
    name
     in Model Name. 
    • For MAC OS 10.4, if Auto Se lect does not work properly, 
    select 
    Samsung in Print Using and your printer name 
    in 
    Model. 
    • For MAC OS 10.5~10.6, if Auto Select does not work  properly, select 
    Select a driver to use... and your 
    printer name
     in Print Using. 
    Your printer’s IP address appears on the 
    Printer List, and 
    is set as the default printer.
    9Click Add.
    For a USB-connected
    1Follow the instructions on “Installing Software” on page 37 
    to install the PPD and Filter files on your computer.
    2Open the Applications folder → Utilities, and Print

    • For MAC OS 10.5~10.6, open

    the

    Default Browser and find the 
    USB connection.
    • For MAC OS 10.5~10.6, click 
    Default and find the USB 
    connection.
    5For MAC OS 10.3, if Auto Select does not work properly, 
    select 
    Samsung in Printer Model and your printer 
    name
     in Model Name. 
    • For MAC OS 10.4, if Auto Select does not work properly,  select 
    Samsung in Print Using and your printer name 
    in 
    Model. 
    • For MAC OS 10.5~10.6, if Auto Select does not work  properly, select 
    Select a driver to use... and your 
    printer name
     in Print Using. 
    Your machine appears on the Pr inter List and is set as the 
    default printer.
    6Click Add.

    Printing 
    NOTES: 
    • The Macintosh printer’s proper ties window that appears in 
    this User’s Guide may differ depending on the printer in use. 
    However the composition of the printer properties window is 
    similar.
    • You can check your printer name in the supplied CD-ROM.
    Printing a Document
    When you print with a Macintosh,  you need to check the printer 
    software setting in each applicat ion you use. Follow these steps 
    to print from a Macintosh.
    1Open a Macintosh application and select the file you want 
    to print.
    2Open the File menu and click Page Setup (Document 
    Setup
     in some applications). 
    3Choose your paper size, orientation, scaling, and other 
    options and click 
    OK.
    4Open the File menu and click Print.
    5Choose the number of copies yo u want and indicate which 
    pages you want to print. 
    6Click Print when you finish setting the options.

    Make sure that your 
    printer is selected.
    Changing Printer Settings
    You can use advanced printing features when using your 
    printer.
    From your Macintosh  application, select 
    Print from the File 
    menu. The printer name which appears in the printer properties 
    window may differ depending on the printer in use. Except for 
    the name, the composition of the  printer properties window is 
    similar.
    NOTES: The setting options may differ depending on printers 
    and Macintosh OS version.
    Layout
    The Layout tab provides options to adjust how the document 
    appears on the printed page. You can print multiple pages on 
    one sheet of paper. Select 
    Layout from the Presets drop-down 
    list to access the following features.
    •Pages per Sheet: This feature determines how many pages 
    printed on one page. For details, see Printing Multiple Pages 
    on One Sheet of Paper on the next column.
    •
    Layout Direction: You can select the printing direction on a 
    page as like the examples on UI.

    Graphics
    The Graphics tab provides options for selecting Resolution. 
    Select 
    Graphics form the Presets drop-down list to access 
    the graphic features.
    •Resolution: You can select the printing resolution. The higher 
    the setting, the sharper the clar ity of printed characters and 
    graphics. The higher setting also  may increase the time it takes 
    to print a document.
    Paper
    Set Paper Type to correspond to the paper loaded in the tray 
    from which you want to print. This will let you get the best 
    quality printout. If you load a different type of print material, 
    select the corresponding paper type.

    Printer Settings
    Select Printer Settings from the list to access the following 
    features:
    •Toner Save Mode
    Selecting this option extends the  life of your toner cartridge and 
    reduces your cost per page withou t a significant reduction in print 
    quality. 
    Some printers do not support this feature. 
    - On: Select this option to allow the printer to use less toner on 
    each page.
    - 
    Off: If you don’t need to save toner when printing a 
    document, select this option.

    Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet 
    of Paper
    You can print more than one page on a single sheet of paper. 
    This feature provides a cost-effective way to print draft pages.
    1From your Macintosh application, select Print from the 
    File menu. 
    2Select Layout.
    3Select the number of pages you want to print on one sheet 
    of paper on the 
    Pages per Sheet drop-down list.
    4Select the page order from the Layout Direction option.
    To print a border around each page on the sheet, select 
    the option you want from the 
    Border drop-down list.
    5Click Print, and the printer prints the selected number of 
    pages on one side of each page.

    Duplex Printing
    You can print on both sides of the paper. Before printing in the 
    duplex mode, decide on which edge you will be binding your 
    finished document. Th e binding options are:
    Long-edge binding: Which is the conventional layout used in 
    book binding.
    Short-edge binding: Which is the type often used with 
    calendars. 
    1From your Macintosh  application, select Print from the 
    File menu. 
    2Select the Layout. 
    3Select a binding orientation from Two-Sided option.
    4Click Print and the printer prints on both sides of the 
    paper. 
    CAUTION: If you have selected  duplex printing and 
    then try to print multiple copies of a document, the 
    printer may not print the document in the way you 
    want. In case of  Collated copy , if your document has 
    odd pages, the last page of the first copy and the first 
    page of the next copy will  be printed on the front and 
    back of one sheet. In case of  Uncollated copy, the 
    same page will be printed on the front and back of one 
    sheet. Therefore, if you need multiple copies of a 
    document and you want those copies on both sides of 
    the paper, you must print  them one at a time, as 
    separate print jobs.

    Scanning 
    You can scan docoments using Image Capture program. 
    Macintosh OS offers 
    Image Capture program.  
    Scanning with USB
    1Make sure that your machine and computer are turned on 
    and properly connected to each other.
    2Place a single document face  down on the document glass. 
    OR load the document(s) face  up into the ADF (or DADF).
    3Start Applications and click Image Capture.
    NOTE: If No Image Capture device connected message 
    appears, disconnect the USB ca ble and reconnect it. If the 
    problem persists, please refer to the Image Capture’s help.
    4Set the scan options on this program.
    5Scan and save your scanned image.
    NOTE: 
    • For more information about using 
    Image Capture, please 
    refer to the Image Capture’s help.
    • Use TWAIN-compliant software  to apply more scan options.
    • You can also scan using TWAIN- compliant softwares, such as 
    Adobe Photoshop.(Only for Maci ntosh OS X 10.3.9 or above)
    • Scan process differ according to TWAIN-compliant  softwares. Please refer to the user’s guide of the software.
    • When scanning does not operate in 
    Image Capture, update 
    Mac OS to the latest version. 
    Image Capture operates 
    propery in Mac OS 10.3.9 or higher and Mac OS 10.4.7 or 
    higher.
    Scanning with network
    1Make sure that your machine  and computer are turned on.
    2Place a single document face down on the document glass. 
    OR load the document(s) face  up into the ADF (or DADF).
    3Start Applications and click Image Capture.
    4For Mac OS 10.4~10.5, click Devices and click Browse 
    Devices
    .
    For Mac OS 10.6, select your device below 
    SHARED. Skip 
    to step 7.
    5For Mac OS X 10.4, select your machine in Twain devices 
    option. Make sure that 
    Use TWAIN software checkbox is 
    checked, and click 
    Connect.
    •If a warning message appears, click 
    Change Port.. to 
    select port. 
    •If TWAIN UI appears, from the 
    Preference tab, click 
    Change Port.. to select port.
    NOTE: Refer to Scan Manager for Change Port.. use (See 
    your Printer User’s Guide). 
    For Mac OS X 10.5~10.6, make sure that 
    Connected 
    checkbox is checked beside your machine in 
    Bonjour 
    Devices
    . 
    If you want to scan using TW AIN, refer to the Mac OS X 
    10.4 procedure above.
    6Set the scan options on this program.
    7Scan and save your scanned image.
    NOTE: 
    • For MAC OS X 10.3, use TWAIN-compliant softwares.
    • Use TWAIN-compliant software  to apply more scan options.
    • For more information about using 
    Image Capture, please 
    refer to the 
    Image Capture’s help.
    • You can also scan using TWAIN-compliant softwares, such as  Adobe Photoshop.(Only for Maci ntosh OS X 10.3.9 or above)
    • Scan process differ accord ing to TWAIN-compliant 
    softwares. Please refer to the user’s guide of the software.
    • When scanning does  not operate, update Mac OS to the 
    latest version. Scanning operat es properly in Mac OS 10.4.7 
    or higher.
    Setting scan information in Scan 
    Manager.
    You can find out about Scan Manager program information 
    and installed scan drivers condit ion. Also, you can change scan 
    settings and add or delete the folders where scanned 
    documents to computer are save in 
    Scan Manager program. 
    1Open Scan Manager in Smart Panel menu on Status 
    bar.
    2Set Scan Button allows you to change the saving 
    destination and scan settings, add or delete application 
    program and format files. You can change the scanning 
    machine by using 
    Change Port... (Local or Network) 
    3Press OK after setting is done.
