Gmail Gmail is a web-based email service. Gmail is configured when you first set up your phone. Depending on your synchronization settings, Gmail can automatically synchronize with your Gmail account on the web. Signing into Your Gmail Note: You must sign in to your Gmail account in order to access Gmail. 1. Sign on to your Google account if you are not already signed on. For more information, refer to “Creating a New Google Account” on page 12. 2. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Gmail . 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. The Inbox loads conversations and email. Effect: allows you to add various effects to your photo. Portrait: allows you to apply various face correction effect s such as: Remove red, Brighten face, Airbrush, or Out-of-focus. 174 Creating a Gmail Message 1.From the Gmail Inbox, tap at the bottom of the screen to create a new message. 2. Enter the recipients Email address in the To field. Separate multiple recipient email addresses with a comma. 3. Tap and select Add Cc/Bcc to add a carbon or blind copy. 4. Enter the subject of this message in the Subject field. 5. Ta p t h e Compose email field and begin composing your message. 6. Tap to send. Viewing a Gmail Message 1.From the Gmail Inbox, tap a message to view it. 2. Press for additional options. Google The Google Search applicatio n provides you an on-screen Internet search engine powered by Google™. The Google Search application is the same on-screen Internet search engine that is on the Google Search Bar on your main Home screen. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Google. 2. Use the on-screen keypad to enter the item you want to search for, then tap . 3. Tap to use Google Voice Search. Follow the on-screen instructions. Google Settings As Google has become more intertwined with other applications, this menu provides a quick and ready access point to configure preferences for Google+, Location, etc. You can also use the Search fu nction to initiate a Google Search from this menu. 1. You can set up Circles of friends, visit the Stream to get updates from your Circles, use Messenger for fast messaging with everyone in your Circles, or use Instant Upload to automatically upload videos and photos to your own private album on Google+. 1. Sign on to your Google account. For more information, refer to “Creating a New Google Account” on page 12. 2. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Google+ . 3. Select the account you want to use to sign in to Google+. – or – Ta p Add account to create another account. 4. Follow the on-screen inst ructions to use Google+. 5. Visit www.google.com/mobile/+/ for more information. Hangouts Hangouts is a free Windows a nd web-based application for instant messaging offered by Google. You can connect with your friends across computers and various Android devices. You can have conversations or video calls with up to 10 friends. Note: The first time you use Hangouts, you will need to download the updated applicat ion from the Play Store. When the Play Store page displays, tap Update. For more information, refer to “Play Store” on page 187. 1. Log on to your Google acco unt if you have not already done so. For more information, refer to “Creating a New Google Account” on page 12. 2. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Hangouts . 3. The first time you access Hangouts, tap Confirm to confirm your mobile number. 176 Inter net The Internet is your access to the mobile web. This section explains how to navigate your Internet Browser and introduces you to the basic features. Accessing the Mobile Web To access the Browser: From the Home screen, tap Internet . The Quick access homepage displays. Navigating with the Browser 1. To select an item, tap an entry. 2. To scroll through a website, sweep the screen with your finger in an up or down motion. 3. Sweep the screen left to right to move laterally across a web page. 4. To return to a previous page, press . 5. To move forward to a web page, press . Browser Options From any web page, press to access your browser options. Internet Settings From any web page, press ➔ Settings to access your Internet settings. For more detailed information, see “Internet” on page 134. Enter a URL You can access a website quickly by entering the URL. Websites are optimized for viewing on your phone. To enter a URL and go to a particular website, follow these steps: 1. Ta p t h e Search or enter URL field at the top of your screen . 2. Enter the URL using the on-screen keypad. The website displays. Search the Internet To perform an internet search using keywords, follow these steps: 1. Ta p t h e Search or enter URL field at the top of the browser. 2. Applications 177 Adding and Deleting Windows You can have up to eight Internet windows open at one time. To add a new window, follow these steps: 1. From your browser, tap ➔ New window. A new browser window is opened. 2. Ta p (Windows) to see thumbnails of all open windows. 3. Tap a window listing to open up that Internet window. 4. Ta p at the top right corner of the web page thumbnail to delete the window. Going Incognito The incognito feature allows you to view Internet sites outside of normal browsing. Pages viewed in this incognito window won’t appear within your browser history or search history, and no traces (such as cookies) are left on your device. Note: Any downloaded files will be pr eserved and will stay on your device after you exit the incognito mode. To add a new incognito window: 1.From your browser, tap ➔ Incognito mode. 2.At the information prompt, tap OK. 3. A new browser window displays. To exit from the incognito window: 1.From your browser window, tap (Windows). 2. Scroll across the availabl e windows and locate the incognito window. The inco gnito icon appears in the upper-left of the new browser window while you are in this mode. 3. Ta p next to the incognito listing to delete this window. Using Bookmarks While navigating a website, you can bookmark a site to quickly and easily access it at a future time. The URLs (website addresses) of the bookm arked sites are displayed in the Bookmarks page. From the Bookmarks page you can also view your Most visited websites and view your History. 1. Lookout Security Lookout Security™ provides mobile device-specific security features that are coupled with a minimal performance hit. Lookout Mobile Security provides key security options that are unique to the mobile market. Along with the antivirus and anti-malware tech, theres a lost and stolen phone locator service, an application privacy adviser, and a backup service. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Lookout Security . 2. Read the on-screen information, then tap Get started. 3. Read the on-screen descriptions and activate those desired features. Tap Next to progress to the next screen. 4. Ta p New user or Existing user. 5. Create a Lookout account by entering an email address and account password. 6. Applications 179 Maps Depending on your location, you can view basic, custom, and satellite maps and local business information, including location, contact information, and driving directions. You can also post public messages about a location and track your friends. Important! Before using Google Maps you must have at least an active data connection. The Maps application does not cover every country or city. To receive better GPS signals, avoid using your device in the following conditions: inside a building or between buildings in a tunnel or underground passage in poor weather around high-voltage or electromagnetic fields in a vehicle with tinted windows Using Maps 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Maps . A map will display with your location in the very center. 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to use the Maps application. Memo The Memo application allows you to write memos that can include text, audio, and images. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Memo . 2. Ta p Options to reveal available Memo categories or Manage categories. 3. Ta p Search to search for a matching text string within your available memos. – or – Ta p Tap to create memo to create a new memo. – or – Ta p Menu and select one of the following options: Select: allows you to select an available memo. 180 Messages App AT&T Messages brings your texts, calls, and voicemail messages together into a single conversation thread and is accessible by phone or computer.1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Messages . 2. The first time you use AT&T Messages, tap Update AT&T Messages . 3. Sign on to your Google account if you are not already signed on. For more information, refer to “Creating a New Google Account” on page 12. Note: The first time you use the AT&T Messages app, you will need to download the updated application from the Play Store. Mobile Hotspot This application allows you to share your phones’s mobile data connection via USB or as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. For more information, refer to “Mobile Hotspot” on page 149. Mobile TV Mobile TV is a subscription service that allows you to watch your favorite TV shows using your handset. Note: This feature requires a paid subscription. See your AT&T Customer Service Representative for more information. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Mobile TV . 2. Read the 7 day Trial for Mobile TV screen and tap Accept & Start Trial to continue or Exit to exit. 3. The Mobile TV main page displays. Follow the on- screen instructions to watch TV. Music supports files with extensions AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, WMA, 3GP, MP4, and M4A. Launching Music allows you to navigate through your music library, play songs, and create playlists (music files bigger than 300 KB are displayed). Playing Music 1.Ta p ➔ Music . 2. Tap a library category at the top of the screen (Songs, Playlists, Albums, Artists, Music square, or Folders) to view the available music files. 3. Scroll through the list of songs and tap an entry to begin playback. 4. The following Music controls are available: Pause the song. Start the song after pausing. Press and hold to rewind the song. Tap to go to previous song. Press and hold to fast-forward the song. Tap to go to next song. Volume control and SoundAlive. Volume control showing volume muted. Plays the entire song list once. Replays the current list when the list ends. Repeats the currently playing song. Shuffles the current list of songs randomly. Songs play in order and are not shuffled. 182 Music Options To access additional options, follow these steps:1. While in Music, press . 2.The follow options are available before you play music: Note: The following options may or may not appear depending on whether or not music is actually playing. Also, options will be different if the song you are listening to is in a playlist. Listen via Bluetooth: scans for devices and pairs with a Bluetooth headset. : allows you to set the music file as a ringtone or alarm tone. Settings: allows you to change your Music settings. For more information, refer to “Music Settings” on page 182. : displays details about the music file such as Title, Artist, etc. Music Settings The Music Settings menu allows you to set preferences for the Music app such as whether yo u want the music to play in the background, sound effects, and how the music menu displays. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Music . 2. Press ➔ Settings. 3. Select one of the following settings: : this menu allows you to select which categories you want to display. Choices are: Albums, Artists, Genres, Music square, Folders, Composers, Years, Most played, Recently played, or Recently added. Tap each item that you want to display in the Music menu. Playlists: this menu allows you to determine which playlists are displayed. : set a type of equalization such as Normal, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Dance, Classic, etc. Adapt Sound: allows you to set Adapt Sound on when your are listening with earphones to alert of incoming calls and notifications.
