Changing Your Settings 123 Android version: displays the android version loaded on this handset. Baseband version: displays the baseband version loaded on this handset. Kernel version: displays the kernel version loaded on this handset. Build number: displays the software, build number. SE for Android status: displays the Security Enhancement status of your device. Security software version: displays the version of the latest security software. Note: Baseband, kernal and build numbers are usually used for updates to the handset or support. For additional information please contact your AT&T service representative. Software Update The AT&T Software Update feature enables you to use your phone to connect to the netw ork and upload any new phone software directly to your phone. The phone automatically updates with the latest available software when you access this option. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap About device ➔ Software update. 2. Ta p Check for updates. 3. At the AT&T Software update prompt, tap OK to continue. 4. The phone automatically updates the software (if available), otherwise, when the Current software is up to date prompt is displayed, tap OK. 5. When updating software, once the update file is downloaded, you can delay the update on the start screen by postponing it for a certain period of time. 124 Application Manager You can download and install applications from Play Store or create applications using the Android SDK and install them on your device. Use Application manager settings to manage applications. Warning! Because this device can be configured with system software not provided by or supported by Google or any other company, end-users operate these devices at their own risk. From the main Settings screen, tap Application manager . Memor y Usage See how memory is being used by Downloaded or Running applications. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Application manager . 2. Ta p DOWNLOADED, SD CARD, RUNNING, or ALL to display memory usage for that category of applications. The graph at the bottom of the Downloaded tab shows used and free device memory. The graph at the bottom of the Running tab shows used and free RAM. Downloaded Displays apps you have downloaded onto your device. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Application manager . 2. Ta p t h e DOWNLOADED tab to view a list of all the downloaded applications on your device. 3. To switch the order of the lists displayed in the Downloaded tabs, Tap ➔ Sort by size or Sort by name . 4. To reset your application preferences, Tap ➔ Reset app preferences. Note: This will reset the preferences for disabled apps, disabled app notifications, default applications for actions, and background data restrictions for apps. You will not lose any app data. SD Card Displays apps you have downloaded onto your SD card. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Application manager . 2. Ta p t h e SD CARD tab to view a list of all the downloaded applications on your device. 3. To switch the order of the lis ts displayed in the On SD card tab, Tap ➔ Sort by size or Sort by name. 4. To reset your application preferences, Tap ➔ Reset app preferences. Note: When you Reset app preferences, you will not lose any app data. 5. Tap an application to view and update information about the application, includ ing memory usage, default settings, and permissions. Running Ser vices View and control services running on your device. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Application manager . 2. Ta p t h e RUNNING tab. All the applications that are currently running on the device display. 3. Tap one of the applications to view application information. The following options display: : Stops the application from running on the device. This is usually done prior to uninstalling the application. Warning! Not all services can be st opped. Stopping services may have undesirable consequences on the application or Android System. : Report failure and other application information. Note: Options vary by application. 126 Default applications This menu allows you to pre-set the default applications for your Home screen a nd your messaging app. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Default applications . 2. Ta p Home and tap one of the following options: TouchWiz easy home: this option provides a Home screen that provides an easier user experience for the first-time smartphone users. : this is the Home screen that originally displays on your phone. 3. Ta p Message and select the method of sending messages. Select either Messaging (original Samsung messaging app) or Hangouts (Google messaging app). 4. To clear defaults that you have set up, tap Clear. Calendar This section allows you to modi fy settings associated with the Calendar app. For information on the Calendar app, see “Calendar” on page 155. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Calendar. 2. Ta p First day of week and select either Locale default, Saturday, Sunday or Monday. 3. Ta p Lock time zone to lock event time based on your current user-selected time zone. Select a time zone from within the Select time zone field. 4. Ta p Show week numbers to display the week numbers along the side of the week entries. 5. Ta p Hide declined events to activate this option. A check mark indicates selection. 6. Ta p Hide completed tasks to activate this option. A check mark indicates selection. 7. Ta p Weather to have weather symbols displayed on your calendar. A check mark indicates selection. 8. Ta p Quick responses to select quick responses to emailing guests. Call The Call settings menu allows you to modify your settings for making calls with your phone. From the main Settings screen, tap Call. – or – From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Settings. The following options are available: Call rejection 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Call rejection . 2. Ta p Auto reject mode and tap one of the following options: : to turn Auto reject mode off. All incoming calls: to reject all calls. Auto reject numbers: to reject all calls in your Reject list. 3. Ta p Auto reject list. 4. Tap to manually add numbers to the Reject list. 5. Ta p Unknown, to create a checkmark and automatically reject all calls that are not in your Contacts list. Set up call rejection messages 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Call rejection ➔ Set up call rejection messages. 2. Tap to manually add a reject message. – or – Tap one of the pre-written messages to be displayed when you want the call to be rejected. You can edit the message if desired. 3. Ta p Save to save the reject message. Answering and ending calls 1.From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Answering and ending calls. 2. 128 Voice control: Tap this option to be able to accept incoming calls by using your voice. Waving hand over device: Tap this option to answer a call by waving your hand over the device. Pressing the power key: This option will allow you to end a call by pressing the power key without turning off the screen. Call notification pop-ups This option allows you to ha ve incoming call notifications pop-up on your display if an application is open on the screen. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call. 2. Ta p Call notification pop-ups to create a checkmark and activate the feature. In-call status pop-ups This option allows you to have in-call status information displayed in a pop-up if an ap plication is open on the screen. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call. 2. Ta p In-call status pop-ups to create a checkmark and activate the feature. Show caller information This option displays a caller’s recent social network activity and the history of your communication with them when a call is received. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call. 2. Ta p Show caller information to create a checkmark and activate the feature. Call alerts 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Call alerts . 2. Tap the following options to create a checkmark and activate the features: Vibrate when answered: enables your phone to vibrate when the called party answers the phone. Call-end vibration: enables your phone to vibrate when the call ends. Call connect tone: plays a tone when a call is connected. Changing Your Settings 129 Notify during calls: turns on alarm and message notifications during a call. Call Accessories 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Call accessories . 2. The following options are available: Automatic answering: configures the device to automatically answer and incoming call when a headset is detected. Automatic answering timer: configures the time delay before the device automatically accepts the incoming call. Outgoing call conditions: allows you to make calls even when the device is locked. Additional settings 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Additional settings. 2. Tap one of the following options: : allows you to choose how your Caller ID will be displayed. Select Network default, Hide number, or Show number. Call forwarding: allows you to forward your calls to another number. Auto area code: allows you to automatically prepend a specific area code to all outbound calls. Call waiting: the network service informs you when someone is trying to reach you during another call. Tap to activate. Auto redial: automatically redials the last number if the call was either cut off or was unable to connect. Tap to activate. Fixed dialing numbers: allows you to restrict outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers. TTY mode: allows you to connect your phone and a TTY device via a special cable that plugs into your phone’s headset jack. If this cable was not provided with your TTY device, contact your TTY device manufacturer to purchase the connector cable. Hearing aids: allows you to improve the sound quality of your phone when you are using a hearing aid. Using Fixed Dialing Numbers Enabling FDN 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Additional settings ➔ Fixed dialing numbers. 2. Ta p Tu r n o n F D N. 3. At the prompt, enter your PIN2 code and tap OK. FDN is enabled. 1304. To enable FDN after it has been disabled, tap Tu r n o f f FDN , enter your PIN2 code and tap OK. Important! Not all SIM cards use a PIN2 code. If your SIM card does not, this menu does not display. The PIN2 code is provided by your carrier. Entering an incorrect PIN2 code could cause the phone to lock. Contact customer service for assistance. Changing the PIN2 Code 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Additional settings ➔ Fixed dialing numbers. 2. Ta p Change PIN2. 3. At the prompt, enter your old PIN2 code. 4. At the prompt, enter a new PIN2 code. 5. Confirm your PIN2 code. Managing the FDN List When this feature is enabled, you can make calls only to phone numbers stored in the FDN list on the SIM card. Note: Before you can manage an FDN list a list must be created. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Additional settings ➔ Fixed dialing numbers. 2. Ta p FDN list. 3. A list of all existing FDN numbers will be displayed. Ringtones and keypad tones This option allows you to personalize the sounds you hear when your phone rings and when you press the keypad. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Ringtones and keypad tones. 2. Ta p Ringtones, select a ringtone, and tap OK. 3. Ta p Vibrations, select a vibration type, and tap OK. 4. Ta p Vibrate when ringing to create a checkmark if you want your phone to vibrate when a call is incoming. 5. Changing Your Settings 131 Personalize call sound This option allows you to personalize the sounds you hear during a call with and without earphones.1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Personalize call sound. 2. At the Personalize call sound display, tap one of the following options: Adapt sound: allows you to customize your sounds. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your personal call sound. : plays a softer sound when the other party is in a noisy environment. : plays a clearer sound when the other party sounds unclear or muffled. : turns off your customized call sound and plays the default sounds. Noise reduction This option helps to suppress background noise from your side during a call. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Noise reduction to create a checkmark and enable the feature. Voicemail ser vice 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Voicemail Service. Voicemail service provided by your carrier is the default. 2. Ta p My carrier to remove the carrier Voicemail service. Voicemail settings You can view or modify your voicemail number from this menu. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Voicemail settings. 2. Ta p t h e Voice mail number field, backspace to erase the digits, and enter a new voicemail number using the keypad, then tap OK. 3. Ta p OK. Sound This option allows you select your default ringtone that you receive whenever you get a call. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call ➔ Sound. 2. 132 Vibrate This option allows you turn on vibration when you receive a call.1. From the main Settings screen, tap Call. 2. Ta p Vibrate to create a checkmark and activate the Vibrate feature. Contacts To modify the settings for your contacts, follow these steps: 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Contacts. 2. The following options are available: : allows you to move contacts to or from your memory card or USB storage. Contacts to display: allows you to choose to display All contacts, those on your Device, SIM card, Samsung account, Gmail, or only display contacts that are part of a Customized list. Swipe to call or send msgs: allows you to call or message by swiping the contact to the left (to message) or to the right (to call). Only contacts with phones: allows you to only display contacts that have phone numbers. : allows you to sort by First name or Last name. Display contacts by: allows you to sort by First name first or Last name first. Service numbers lists the currently available service numbers. Send contact information: allows you to send all or individual contacts via Bluetooth in the form of namecards. Tap Export settings and make a selection. : allows you to add and manage your Samsung, ChatON, Google, LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync accounts. Tap Add account and then follow the on-screen instructions. AT&T Address Book: allows you to access the AT&T Address Book so you can sync your contacts. Email The Email settings allow you to customize your Email application. 1. Set up an email account if you haven’t already done so. For more information, refer to “Email” on page 167. 2.
