Tap and select a Bluetooth setting to configure: Visibility timeout: use this setting to control when to automatically turn off the Discoverable option: 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 1 hour, or Never time out. Received files: shows the list of files received by using Bluetooth. Rename device: allows you to rename your device. : provides additional information on Bluetooth and Bluetooth settings. 5. Tap the checkbox next to SAMSUNG-SM-G900A if you do not want your phone visible to other Bluetooth devices. Tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot This option allows you to share your phones’s mobile data connection via USB or as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. USB tethering 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot . 2. Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable. 3. Ta p USB tethering to add a checkmark and activate the feature. The USB tethering icon is displayed at the top of your screen. For more information, refer to “USB Tethering” on page 149. Wi-Fi Hotspot Note: To enable Wi-Fi Hotspot on your phone, dial 611 or go to att.com/mywireless to set up the service. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Mobile Hotspot . – or – From the main Settings screen, tap Tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot . 2. Turn Mobile Hotspot on by tapping the slider so that it changes to the ON position . The Mobile Hotspot icon is displayed at the top of your screen. 3. Ta p Configure at the bottom of the screen. 844. Enter or edit the Network SSID, Hide my device, Security setting, and Password. 5. Ta p Show password and Show advanced options to see them displayed. 6. Ta p Save. 7. Tap for the following option: Timeout settings: allows you to set the time your device will be available as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. For more information, refer to “Mobile Hotspot” on page 149. Connecting to your Wi-Fi hotspot from other devices 1. Activate Wi-Fi on the device that wants to connect to your phone. 2. Find Galaxy S5 XXXX in the Wi-Fi network list and connect to it. XXXX are four randomly generated digits that will appear when you set up a Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on your device. The connected device can now use internet through your Portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Note: Activating Wi-Fi and connecting to your phone will be different depending on the type of the other device. Airplane mode Airplane mode allows you to use many of your phone’s features, such as Camera, Games, and more, when you are in an airplane or in any other area where making or receiving calls or data is prohibited. Important! When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receive any calls or access online information or applications. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Airplane mode . 2. Changing Your Settings 85 Data Usage From this screen you can view your Mobile data usage and turn your Mobile data capability On or Off. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Data usage. 2. Ta p Mobile data to create a checkmark and turn Mobile data usage on. 3. Ta p Set mobile data limit to create a checkmark and allow a data limit to be set. 4. Touch and drag the orange limit bar to the GB limit that you desire. 5. Ta p t h e Data usage cycle drop-down menu and select a date. The data usage displays as a visual (chart) and also displays a list of each application with a breakdown of how much data was used per application. Note: Data is measured by your device. Your service provider may account for data usage differently. 6. Tap to display additional options. Tap to activate. Data roaming: enables data roaming on your device. Restrict background data: restricts some apps and services from working unless you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. Auto-sync data: allows your accounts to automatically sync : displays a Wi-Fi tab that shows Wi-Fi usage. Mobile hotspots: displays available mobile hotspots. Location The Location settings allow you to set up how the phone will determine your location and the sensor settings for your phone. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Location. 2. The menu is separated into various sections: : allows you to choose a location mode. Each mode enables different technologies and affects both the accuracy of the location and battery usage. 86 My places: allows you to add location information for your Home, Work, and Car. More networks This option displays addition al Connectivity information. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks . Options display for Airplane mode, Mobile networks, Tethering and portable hotspots, and VPN. Default messaging app This option allows you to set the default messaging app that you can use to send all of your messages. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ Default messaging app and make a selection. Mobile networks Before you use applications such as Google Maps and find your location or search for places of interest, you must enable the Mobile networks options. Mobile data To enable data access over the mobile network, this option must be selected. It is set on by default. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Mobile data to create a checkmark and activate the feature. Data Roaming Data roaming allows you to connect to your service provider’s partner networks and access data services when you are out of your service providers area of coverage. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Data roaming to create a checkmark and activate the feature. Access Point Names To use Wi-Fi you need access to a wireless access point (hotspot). 1. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Access Point Names. Network Operators Using this feature you can view the current network connection. You can also scan and select a network operator manually, or set the network selection to Automatic. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Network operators. The current network connection displays at the bottom of the list. Important! You must deactivate data service prior to searching for an available network. Note: Connecting to 2G networks slows the data transfer speed and time. Default setup options Your phone default is set to Automatic (to automatically search for an available network. You can set this option to Manual to select a network each time you connect. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ Mobile networks. 2. Ta p Network operators. 3. Ta p Default setup. 4. Ta p Manual to locate and connect to a network manually, or tap Automatic to allow the device to automatically select a network. VPN settings The VPN settings menu allows you to set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Important! Before you can use a VPN you must establish and configure one. 88 Adding a Basic VPN Before you add a VPN you must determine which VPN protocol to use: PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol), L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol), L2TP/IPSec PSK (Pre- shared key based L2TP/IPSec), or L2TP/IPSec CRT (Certificate based L2TP/IPSec). 1. Before using VPN, you must first set up a screen unlock PIN or password. For more information, refer to “Lock Screen Settings” on page 95. 2. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ VPN. 3. Ta p Basic VPN. 4. Ta p (Add VPN network). 5. Enter a name for the VPN network in the Name field. 6. Select a VPN type from the Ty pe drop-down menu. 7. Enter the Server address and any other required fields that are dependent upon the Ty p e you entered previously. 8. Ta p t h e PPP encryption (MPPE) check box to enable encryption. 9. Ta p t h e Show advanced options check box to display additional VPN options. 10. Ta p Save to save your VPN settings. Adding an IPsec VPN 1.Before using VPN, you must first set up a screen unlock PIN or password. For more information, refer to “Lock Screen Settings” on page 95. 2. From the main Settings screen, tap More networks ➔ VPN. 3. Ta p Advanced IPsec VPN. 4. Ta p (Add IPsec VPN network). 5. Enter a password, confirm the password, and tap OK. 6. Enter a name for the VPN connection in the VPN connection name field. 7. Select an IPsec connection type from the drop-down menu. 8. Enter any other required information. 9. Changing Your Settings 89 NFC NFC (Near Field Communication) allows data exchange when you touch your device with another compatible device. This is used for applications such as Android Beam and S Beam. To activate NFC, follow these steps: 1. From the main Settings screen, tap NFC. 2. Tap the ON/OFF slider, located to the right of the NFC field, to turn NFC ON . Android Beam When Android Beam is activated, you can beam app content to another NFC-capable device by holding the devices close together. You can beam browser pages, YouTube videos, contacts, and more. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap NFC ➔ Android Beam. 2. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon to turn Android Beam ON . 3. Touch the back of your device with another NFC- capable device and the content is transferred. S Beam When S Beam is activated, you can beam files to another NFC-capable device by holdin g the devices close together. You can beam images and videos from your Gallery, music files from your Music app, and more. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap NFC ➔ S Beam . 2. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon to turn S Beam on . 3. Touch the back of your device with another NFC- capable device and the content is transferred. Tap and pay Tap and pay allows you to select the default payment application you want to use for making on-phone purchases. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap NFC ➔ Ta p and pay . 2. 90 Nearby devices This option allows you to share your media files with nearby devices using DLNA and connected to the same Wi-Fi.1. Connect to a Wi-Fi network. For more information, refer to “Activating Wi-Fi” on page 81. 2. From the main Settings screen, tap Nearby devices . 3. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon to turn Nearby devices on . 4. Verify ( Nearby devices) appears at the top of the screen in your status bar. 5. Ta p Shared contents, then check the media you would like to share. Tap OK. 6. Ta p Allowed devices, then select the connected devices you would like to allow. 7. Ta p Denied devices, then select the connected devices you would like to not allow. 8. Ta p Download to, then select the destination of any downloaded (shared) content. Choose from Device or SD card. 9. Ta p Download from other devices, then select the actions you’ll take when you download content from other devices. Choose from either Always accept, Always ask, or Always reject. Printing With the Printing option, you can set your device to print on compatible Samsung Wi-Fi printers. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Printing. 2. If you have a Samsung printer, tap Samsung Print Service Plugin . – or – If you have a HP printer, tap HP Print Service Plugin. 3. Tap the ON/OFF slider, to turn Printing ON . Changing Your Settings 91 Screen Mirroring The Screen Mirroring feature allows you to share the media files on your device screen with an HDMI device such as an HDMI TV. Note: This feature requires the optional AllShare Cast dongle which is available as an accessory. See your AT&T Customer Service Representative for more information. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Screen Mirroring . 2. Tap the ON/OFF slider, to turn on . 3. Connect the AllShare Cast dongle to the HDMI device using an HDMI A-to-A cable. 4. Ta p Scan to scan for available devices. Sound Settings From this menu you can control the sounds on the phone. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound. The following options display: Sound Mode Sound mode allows you to select Sound, Vibrate, or Mute to be used for all sounds. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound ➔ Sound mode. 2. Select the option that you would like to use for all of your sounds. Vo l u m e The Volume option allows you to change the volume for all phone sounds in one easy location. 1. 92 Vibration intensity Vibration intensity allows you to select how intense the vibration is for different options.1. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound ➔ Vibration intensity. 2. Touch and drag the slider to adjust the Vibration intensity for the various options. Music effects Music effects allows you to set the Music effects control panel that will be used when you play music on your phone. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound ➔ Music effects. 2. Select the option that you would like to use for your Music effects control panel. Ringtones This option allows you to set the ringtone. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound. 2. Ta p Ringtones. 3. Tap a ringtone and tap OK. – or – Ta p Add to select a file from your music files. Vibrations This option allows you to set your phone to vibrate and ring. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound. 2. Ta p Vibrations. 3. Select a vibration pattern and tap OK. – or – Ta p Create and follow the on-screen instructions to create your own vibration. Notifications This option allows you to set the ringtone that will sound for notifications and alarms. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound. 2. Ta p Notifications. 3. Tap a ringtone and tap OK. Vibrate when ringing This option allows you to enable your phone to vibrate whenever it rings. 1. From the main Settings screen, tap Sound. 2.
