    Sending a Message to a Recent Call 
    1.	 
    Touch Phone  ➔  Recent. A list of recent 
    calls displays. 
    2.  Swipe the entry you want to messag
    e to the left. 
    3.	  At the New message screen, touch the  Enter message 
    field and use the onscreen  keyboard to enter in a 
    message. 
    4.	  When you are done with your message, touch  Send. 
    For more information, refer to  “Creating and Sending 
    Messages”  on page 61
    . 
    Deleting a Call from the Call Log 
    1.	 Touch Phone  ➔ Recent. A list of recent 
    calls displays. 
    2.	  Touch and hold the call you want to delete from the 
    Recent calls log. 
    3.	  To
    uch  Delete . 
    4.	  At the  Delete log  prompt, touch  Delete.
     
    The call is deleted from the Recent calls log.
     
    Adding a Call to the Reject List 
    1.	  To u c h Phone ➔  Recent. A list of recent 
    calls displays. 
    2.	  Touch and hold the call you want to add to the 
    
    Reject List. 
    
    3.  To u
    c h  Add to reject list. 
    4.  At the  Add to reject list prompt, touch  OK. 
    Future calls from this number will be rejected and sent 
    to your voicemail. 
    Call Duration 
    1.	  To u c h Phone ➔ Recent. 
    2.	  To u c h 
    Menu  ➔ Call duration  for options: 
    •Last call : Shows the length of time for the last call. 
    •  Dialed calls : Shows the total length of time for all calls 
    made. 
    •  Received calls : Shows the total length of time for all 
    calls received. 
    •  All calls : Shows the total length of time for all calls 
    made and received. 
    3.  To reset these times to zero, touch 
    Menu 
    ➔  Reset .

    Options During a Call 
    Your phone provides a number of  control functions that you 
    can use during a call. 
    Adjusting the Call Volume 
    During a call, to adjust the volume, use the Volume key on 
    the left side of the phone. 
    � 	Press the Up end of the volume key to increase the 
    volume level and press the Down end of the volume 
    key to decrease the volume level. 
    – or – 
    Quickly add more volume to the incoming audio by 
    touching the onscreen  Extra volume button 
    . 
    From a Home screen, you can also adjust the ringer volume 
    using these same keys. 
    In-Call Options 
    During an active call there are several functions available by 
    touching a corresponding onscreen button. 
    • Add call: Display the dialer so you can call another person. 
    • Keypad: Display the onscreen keypad, where you can 
    
    enter number using DTMF (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency).
     
    • End call : Terminate the call. 
    • Speaker : Route the phone’s audio through either the 
    
    speaker or through the earpiece.
     
    – To u c h  Speaker to route the audio through the speaker. 
    (You can adjust the speaker volume using the volume 
    keys.) A green line will appear under the Speaker button. 
    – To u c h   Speaker again 
     to use the phone’s earpiece (see 
    “Using the Speakerphone During an Active Call”  on 
    page 58). The green line will disappear when Speaker is 
    not activated. 
    • Mute/Unmute  turn the onboard micr ophone either on or 
    off. 
    – To u c h  Mute during a call to mute the microphone. A 
    green line will appear under the Mute button. 
    – To u c h  Mute again to unmute the microphone. The green 
    line will disappear when  Mute is not activated.

    • Headset  connects to a Bluetooth headset. 
    – To u c h Headset  during a call to activate a Bluetooth 
    
    headset. A green line will appear under the Headset 
    
    button.
     
    – To u c h  Headset  again to de-activate the Bluetooth 
    headset. The green line will  disappear when the Headset 
    is not activated. 
    • Touch Menu  for more options: 
    – Contacts: Go to your Contact list. – Memo: Write a memo. 
    – Message : Write a message during a call. 
    Personalizing the Call Sound Setting 
    During a call it may be necessary to adjust the sound of the 
    incoming call by selecting an audio equalizer setting for the 
    current call. 
    1.  From the call screen, touch 
    . 
    2.  Select an available option. 
    3.  Confirm the option is enabled 
    . 
    Activating Noise Reduction 
    During a call it may be nece ssary to activate the noise 
    reduction feature. Activating this feature can improve the 
    quality of your conversation  by reducing ambient noise.

    Multi-Party Calling  Using the Speakerphone During an 
    Active Call 
    Use multi-party call features to set up a call between multiple 
    callers, such as for a conference call. 
    While in an active call, it is possible to enable the 
    speakerphone feature.
     
    1.	 Establish the first call, by answering an incoming call 
    or making a call. 
    2. Touch   Add call.
    The firs  t call is placed on hold. 
    4. To merg e the calls into one conference call, touch 	 
    Merge .
    3.	 Make the second cal l by touching the phone number 
    digits, then t  o

    Section 5: Messaging 
    This section describes how to  send and receive different 
    types of messages. It also includes the features and 
    functionality associated with messaging. 
    Types of Messages 
    Your phone provides the following message types: 
    • Te x t  M e s s a g e s 
    • Multimedia (Picture, Video, and Audio) Messages 
    • Email and Gmail Messages 
    • Hangouts 
    • Google+ 
    Messaging 
    The Short Message Service (SMS) lets you send and receive 
    text messages to and from other mobile phones or email 
    addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to 
    your service provider’s message service. 
    The Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) lets you send and 
    receive multimedia messages (s uch as picture, video, and 
    audio messages) to and from other mobile phones or email 
    addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to 
    your service provider’s multimedia message service. 
    Important!  When creating a message, adding an image, a 
    sound file, or a video clip to a text message 
    changes the message from a text message to a 
    multimedia message. 
    Messaging icons are displayed in the Status Ba r and indicate 
    when messages are received and their type. For more 
    information, refer to  “Status Bar” on page 
    17.

    Creating and Sending Messages 
    1. From a Home screen, touch Apps  ➔ 
    Messaging. 
    2.	  Touch 
    Compose. 
    3.	 Touch the  Enter recipient  field to manually enter a 
    recipient or touch
     to select a recipient from your 
    Contacts. You can also select the recipient based on 
    Groups, Favorites, or Logs. 
    Note:  For the Group option, if the number of recipients is less 
    than 10, all members in the group will be added. You 
    will need to delete any unnecessary members in the list 
    by selecting the trash can icon and deleting unwanted 
    entries. 
    4.	  If adding a recipient from  your Contacts, touch the 
    contact to place a check mark then touch  Done. 
    The contact is placed in the recipient field. 
    Note:  Enter additional recipients by separating each entry 
    with a semicolon ( ; ) then us ing the previous procedure.  5.	 
    To u c h  t h e  Enter message  field and use the onscreen 
    keyboard to enter a message. 
    6.	  Add more recipients by touching the recipient field. 
    7.	  Review your message and touch  Send. 
    Note:  If you exit a message before you send it, it will be 
    automatically saved as a draft. 
    Adding Attachments to a Message 
    To add an attachment to your message, touch and 
    
    select one of the following options: Image, Take a picture, 
    
    and so on.
     
    Options While Composing a Message 
    � 	While composing a message, touch Menu to 
    reveal additional messaging options. 
    •  Insert smiley : Add emoticons, such as a happy face to 
    your message. 
    •Add text : Copy text from your contacts, calendar, or 
    from a memo to add to  your message. This is a 
    convenient feature for adding names, phone numbers, 
    events, and so on, to your message.

    • Add to contacts : Add the recipient to your Contacts 
    list. (This option only appears if the recipient is not 
    already in your Contacts list.) 
    •View contact : See information on the recipient. (This 
    option only appears if the recipient is in your Contacts 
    list.) 
    •  Add slide : Add a new slide to a message. 
    •  Add subject : Add a subject to a message 
    •  Add recipients : Add additional recipients of future 
    messages in this message thread. 
    •  Scheduling: Set a future time to send the message. 
    •  Lock/Unlock messages : Protect / unprotect the 
    selected message(s) from being accidentally deleted. 
    •  Add to spam numbers: Add this recipien t to your list 
    of spam numbers. 
    •Discard : Delete the current message. 
    •Translate : Launch a Translate pop-up menu. Here you 
    can both assign the sender’s  original language and 
    assign a target language fo r the recipient (they will 
    receive your message in  the designated language).  •Font size
    : Set the size of the font from Tiny to Huge, or 
    use the default font. 
    View New Messages 
    When you receive a new message, the new message 
    
    icon displays in the Status Bar.
     
    1.	  Open the Notification Panel and select the message.

    . 
    – or – 
    From a Home screen, touch 
    Apps ➔ 
    Messaging , and then touch the new message to 
    view it. 
    2. To play a multimedia message, touch . 
    To pause playback of the multimedia message, 
    touch 
    . 
    3.	  To scroll through the message (if additional text pages 
    have been added), touch the screen and in a single 
    motion, scroll up or down the page.

    Message Options 
    � 	Touch and hold the message bubble within an active 
    message conversation to display the following options 
    (options may vary by content): 
    •  Delete message : Delete any currently selected 
    message bubble from the thread. 
    •  Copy message text : Copy the currently selected 
    message bubble from the thread. 
    •  Lock/Unlock message : Lock or unlock the currently 
    selected message bubble from being accidentally 
    deleted. 
    •Forward : Forward the currently selected message 
    bubble to another recipient. 
    •Share : Share the message with others. 
    •  View message details : Display details for the 
    currently selected message bubble. 
    •Translate : Translate the text from the currently 
    selected bubble into a desired language. 
    Message Threads 
    Sent and received text and picture messages are grouped 
    into message threads. Threaded messages allow you to see 
    all the messages exchanged with a recipient (similar to a 
    chat program). 
    To access message thread options: 
    1.  From a Home screen, touch 
    Apps  ➔ 
    Messaging . 
    Menu for options: 
    2.	  To u c h 
    •Search : Enter characters to search messages and 
    recipients. 
    •  Delete threads : Choose message threads to erase. 
    •  Draft messages : View messages you’ve created but 
    not yet sent. 
    •  Locked messages: View messages you’ve locked. 
    Locked messages cannot be deleted. 
    •  Scheduled messages : View messages you have 
    scheduled to sent later. 
    •  Spam messages: View messages tagged as spam. 
    •  Settings : Configure Messaging settings. 
    •Font size : Configure the size of the font.

    Delete Messages 
    To delete a single message thread: 1.  From a Home screen, touch 
    Apps  ➔ 
    Messaging . 
    2.  Touch and hold a message, then touch  Delete thread. 
    3.  At the  Delete  prompt, touch  OK. 
    To delete multiple  message threads: 
    1.  From a Home screen, touch 
    Apps  ➔ 
    Messaging . 
    2.	  Touch 
    Menu  ➔ Delete threads. 
    3.	  Touch each message you want to delete or touch 
    Select all . A check mark displays beside each 
    message you select. 
    4.	  Touch  Delete . 
    5.  At the  Delete  prompt, touch  OK to delete or  Cancel. 
    Message Search 
    You can search through your messages by using the 
    
    Message Search feature.
     
    1.  From a Home screen, touch 
    Apps  ➔ 
    Messaging . 
    2.	  To u c h 
    Menu  ➔ Search . 
    3.	  Use the onscreen keyboard to enter a word or phrase 
    to search for, then touch 
    Search . 
    4.	  All messages that contain the search string you 
    entered are displayed.
