Personalize Call Sound Choose options for call audio, in cases where you might need the sound softer or more clear, or optimized for your right or left ear. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ My deviceMy device . 2. Touch Call ➔ Personalize call sound. 3. Touch In-call sound EQ to configure options: •Off : Use the default call sound settings. •Soft sound : Use softer sounds during calls. • Clear sound : Use clearer sounds during calls. • Adapt Sound left : Optimize audio for the left headphone speaker. • Adapt Sound right: Optimize audio for the right headphone speaker. 4. Touch Adapt sound and follow the prompts to find the best sound for you. Noise Reduction Set the phone to suppress background noise during calls. 1. Configure options: • Voicemail service : By default, your device uses your wireless service provider’s voicemail service. If you have another option for voic email installed, select it here. • Voicemail settings : By default, the speed dial for calling voicemail for your serv ice provider is *86 (*VM). If you wish to use another speed dial, touch Voicemail number to set a new one. •Sound : Choose a default ringto ne for new voicemail. •Vibrate : Set a vibration to occur for new voicemail. To u c h Auto Retry to automatically redial a call if it receives a busy signal from the network. TTY Mode A TTY (teletypewriter, also known as a Text Telephone or TDD) is a telecommunications de vice that allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to communicate by telephone. Your phone is compatible with select TTY devices. Please check with the manufacturer of your TTY device to ensure that it supports digital wireless transmission. 1. 3. Touch Hearing aids to enable the feature. DTMF Tones Set the length of Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency tones which play when you use the keypa d during a call or when navigating the phone’s menus. 1. Voice Privacy Use Enhanced voice privacy to improve the security of your phone calls. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ My deviceMy device . 2. Touch Call. 3. Touch Voice privacy to enable the feature. Blocking Mode When Blocking mode is enabled, notifications for selected features are blocked, and you only receive the notifications you choose. You can choose to block notifications by feature or contact, and choose blocking all the time, or during a specific time period. 1. Set up All owed contacts (contacts whose notifications will not be blocked): None: Block notifications from all contacts. All contacts : Allow notifications from any contact. Fa vo rites : Only allow notifications from contacts tagg ed as favorites. Cu stom : Allow notifications from contacts you specify . Create a list of allowed contacts by touching Add and selecting co ntacts. 1.From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ . 2. To u c h ON/OFF next to Hands-fr ee mode to enable or disable the setting. 3. Power Saving Mode Configure Power saving mode settings to conserve battery power. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ My deviceMy device . 2. Touch ON/OFF next to Power saving mode to enable or disable the setting. 3. Touch Power saving mode for options: •CPU power saving : Limit the maximum performance of the CPU (Central Processing Unit). Accessories Settings Configure your phone's behavior when it is connected to an optional dock (not included). 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ My deviceMy device . 2. To u c h Accessories for options: • Dock sound : Play a sound when you insert and remove the phone from the dock. • Audio output mode : Play audio through the dock speakers when the phone is docked. • Desk home screen display : Display the desk home screen when the phone is docked. • Automatic unlock : Flip the S View cover open to unlock the screen when the secure lock is disabled and the phone is docked. Accessibility Settings Your phone offers features to make using the phone easier for those with certain physical disabilities. Use the Accessibility settings to configure these features. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔My deviceMy device . 2. Touch Accessibility for options: • Auto rotate screen : Enable automatic rotation of the screen when you rotate the phone. • Screen timeout : Set a period of time for the screen to remain lit-after which it will dim and lock. • Lock automatically : Lock the screen in 5 seconds after screen auto matically turns off. (This option appears only when a scr een lock is enabled.) • Speak passwords : Read aloud password information. • Answering/ending calls : Accept calls by pressing the Home Key or end calls by pressing the Power/Lock key. • Show shortcut : Display a shortcut to Accessibility settings on the Device options menu. (The Device options menu displays when you press and hold the Power/Lock key.) • Manage accessibility : Choose settings for exporting, updating, and sharing the acce ssibility settings as a file. • TalkBack : Activate the TalkBack feature and configure options. •Font size : Change the size of the fonts used on the screen. • Magnification gestures : Control whether your phone recognizes gestures to pa n, and zoom in or out. • Negative colors : Reverse the display of onscreen colors from white text on a black background to black text on a white background. • Color adjustment : Adjust the color of the screen if you are color blind or have difficulty reading the display because of the screen color. • Accessibility shortcut : Control whether your phone recognizes a gesture to qu ickly enable accessibility features. • Text-to-speech options : Configure options for converting text to speech. For more information, see “Text-To-Speech Options” on page 146. • Sound balance : Control the signal sent to the left and right when using earphones. • Mono audio : Enable stereo audio to be compressed into a single mono audio stream for use with a single earphone. • Turn off all sounds : Mute every sound made by the phone during touches, selections, notifications, etc. •Hearing aids : Turn on hearing aid compatibility. • Flash notification : Set the camera flash to blink when notifications occur. • Google subtitles (CC) : Enable subtitles in Google apps. • Samsung subtitles (CC) : Enable subtitles in Samsung apps. • Assistant menu: Display a special menu to improve phone accessibility for users with reduced dexterity. Touch ON/OFF , and then touch Assistant menu for options. – Dominant hand : Display the Assistant menu on the left or right side of the screen. – Edit : Reorder or remove items on the Assistant menu. • Press and hold delay : Select a time interval for using the Touch and hold gesture. • Interaction control : Adjust how your phone interprets motions and screen touches. You can turn motions and screen timeout on or off. You can also block areas of the screen from touch interact ion, turn Auto rotate and hard key functions (Power/Lock Key, Volume Key, etc.) off, and display app notificati ons only on the Notification panel and Status bar. Language and Input Use Language and input settings to choose a default language for your phone's operations, plus settings for text entry and other inputs. Default Language Choose the default language for operating your phone. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ My deviceMy device . 2. Touch Language and input ➔ Language to select a default language. Default Input Method Select default input method you will use when accessing the keyboard. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ My deviceMy device . 2. Touch Language and input ➔ Default to select Samsung keyboard or Swype. Samsung Keyboard The Samsung Keyboard is an onscreen QWERTY keyboard, so you can enter text by “typ ing” on the keyboard. Samsung keyboard is enabled by default. – - Live Language Update : Automatically update with popular new words everyday – Personalised data : When enabled, predictive text uses personal language da ta you have entered to make better predictions. Samsung keyboard can collect all the text you ente r, including personal data and credit card numbers, in order to give better prediction results. – Learn from Facebook : Log into Facebook to allow your phone to learn from your Facebook postings. – Learn from Gmail : Log into Gmail to allow your phone to learn from your Gmail email. – Learn from Twitter: Log into Twitter to allow your phone to learn from your Twitter postings. – Learn from Messages : Allow your phone to learn from your text and multimedia messages. – Learn from Contacts : Allow your phone to learn from your Contacts entries. – Clear server data : Clear unknown collected data. – Clear personalised data : Clear all personalised language data collected to learn your writing style. – Privacy Policy: Personalisation services are provided by a third party service provider. The service provider’s policy is applied. •Auto Replacement : Complete or replace the word you are typing with the most probable word when you tap the space bar or punctuation mark. • Auto capitalization : Automatically capitalize words in your text based on common usage, such as at the beginning of sentences. •Auto spacing : Automatically inserts spaces between words. • Auto punctuate : Automatically enter a period and space to end a sentence when you touch the space bar twice. Keyboard swipe •None : Disable keyboard swipe. • Continuous input : Enter text by sliding your finger across the keys on the keyboard. • Cursor control : Slide your finger across the keyboard to move the cursor to begin entering text. Key-tap feedback •Sound : Play a sound when a key is touched. • Character preview : Display the character in a bubble when you touch it on the keyboard. More settings •Help : Learn about Samsung Keyboard. • Reset setting : Return settings to the defaults. Swype Swype lets you enter text by sliding your finger between letters to spell out a word. For each word, place your finger on the first letter and slide to the subsequent letters, lifting on the last letter. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔My deviceMy device . 2. Touch Language and input. 3. Swype is enabled by default. Touch to configure: •Settings : Set Swype options: – Sound on keypress : Play sounds for your key touches. – Pop-up on keypress : Characters display above keys as you enter text. – Long-press delay : Set the time needed to select alternative characters. – Show complete trace : Display the trace of each word until you start the next word. – Auto-capitalization : Automatically capitalize the first word of sentences. – Auto-spacing : Automatically insert spaces between words as you complete them. – Next word prediction : Let Swype predict the next word based on the previous word. – Show Voice key : Display a voice entry button on the keyboard. •My Words : View and manage words in your Swype dictionary, used for word co mpletion, suggestions, and spell checking. • Languages: Choose the current language for Swype, and download addi tional languages. •Gestures : Learn about shortcuts you can use on the keyboard to quickly accomplish common tasks. •Help : Learn about using Swype. •Updates : Check for updates to Swype. 144 My deviceMy device
