Accessing Settings � From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings . – or – From a Home screen, touch Menu ➔ Settings . – or – From any screen, touch the top of the screen and swipe downward, to display the Notification Panel, and then touch Settings. Settings Controls Some features are enabled or disabled by touching ON/OFF to turn the feature on ( ) or off ( ). For some options, you can also touch the feature name, such as Wi-Fi, to display more options. Some options are enabled or disabled by touching a checkbox. When enabled, a check mark displays. Touch the check mark to remove it and disable the option. Settings Tabs The Settings are divided into 4 main tabs: Connect to wireless netw orks, mana ge mobile networks, and connect to other devices . Per sonalize your phone, inc luding the display, sounds, t he lock screen, accessibility features, language and input methods, and more. Add and manage your email and other accounts, and back up your data. Manage location ser vices, securit y, storage, and other features of your phone. 118
Wi-Fi Data Usage Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that provides access to local area networks. Monitor da ta usage, and control your phone’s connection to mobile data service. For more information, refer to “Wi-Fi” on page 85 . Note: Data is measured by your phone. Your service provider may account for data usage differently. Wi-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct allows devices to connect to each other directly via Wi-Fi, without a Wi-Fi network or hotspot, and without having to set up the connection. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Connections Connections . For more information, refer to “Wi-Fi Direct” on page 87 . 2. To u c h Data usage ➔ Mobile data to enable or disable your phone’s connection to mobile data service. Bluetooth • When disabled, you will not be able to use the Internet, sync email, or use any app tha t requires a data connection unless you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology for exchanging in formation over a distance of about 30 feet. If the devices are in range, you can exchange information between them, even if they are in different rooms. 3. View Mobile Data Usage 1. Touch the Data usage cycle drop-down menu and select a time period. A chart displays the total mobile data usage during that time period, followed by a breakdown of data usage by each application. 2. Set data usage limits: • Touch and drag the red limit bar to set the maximum data limit. When data usag e reaches this limit, mobile data will be disabled. Warning! When disabled, you will not be able to use the Internet, sync email, or use any app that requires a data connection unless you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. • Touch and drag the yellow warning bar to set a warning level. You will be notified when data usage reaches this level. • Touch and drag the two white bars to adjust the time period displayed. • Touch an application to view its data usage. Touch Restrict background data to force the application to sync background data only when connected to a Wi-Fi network 3. To u c h Menu for options: • Data roaming : Allow your phone to use mobile data when roaming. Additional ch arges may apply. See your service plan for details. • Restrict background data: Prevent the phone from connecting to the mobile data network in the background for synchronization or other services. • Auto sync data : Synchronize with accounts automatically, at any time. •Show Wi-Fi usage : Display data usage while connected to Wi-Fi. • Mobile hotspots: Select Wi-Fi networks that are mobile hotspots. You can restrict apps from using these networks, and you can configure apps to warn you before using these networ ks for large downloads. 120

Airplane Mode Enabling Airplane mode turn s off calling, messaging, and data network features. It also turns off other connectivity features, such as Wi-Fi and Bl ue tooth. Mobile Networks Set options for network selection and data service. Important! Depending on your service plan, changes you make to mobile networks settings may incur extra charges. Consult your service provider for more information. While in airplane mode, you ca n use ot her features of your phone, such as playing m usic, watching videos, or other applications. 1. Tethering and Mobile Hotspot Use feature lets you share your phone’s mobile data connection via USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. For more information, refer to “Tethering and Mobile Hotspot” on page 92 . VPN Set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). For more information, refer to “VPN” on page 95 . NFC Use NFC (Near Field Communication) to share information between your phone and another NFC capable device by touching the devices together (typically back-to-back). For more information, refer to “NFC and Beaming” on page 95 . Android Beam Use Android Beam to share smaller files, such as browser pages, YouTube videos, contacts, pictures, etc. For more information on using Android Beam, see “Android Beam” on page 96. S Beam Use S Beam for sending larger files, such as HD videos, between your phone and another NFC capable device by touching the devices together (typically back-to-back). For more information on using S Beam, see “S Beam” on page 96. Nearby Devices Share files with nearby devices using the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standard via Wi-Fi. For more information, refer to “Nearby Devices” on page 97 . Printing Use this feature to manage your printers. Screen Mirroring Use the Screen Mirroring feature to share media files on your phone with an HDMI device, such as an HDMI TV. For more information, refer to “Screen Mirroring” on page 98 . 2. Touch Lock screen ➔ Screen lock and select a screen lock. Then configure the displayed options for that screen lock: •Swipe : Unlock your phone by swiping your finger across the screen. This is the default screen lock and offers no security. – Multiple widgets : Display multiple widgets on your Lock screen. – Lock screen widgets : Customize your clock and personal message. – Shortcuts : Add app shortcuts to the lock screen. – Unlock effect : Show a ripple effect or light effect on the lock screen when you slide your finger over the screen. – Help text : Show help information on the Lock screen. – Wake up in lock screen: Wake up the screen by speaking a command when the Swipe Screen lock is turned on. – Set wake-up command : Set a command to wake up the screen. • Face unlock: Unlock your phone by looking at the screen. This option offers low security, because someone who looks similar to you could unlock your phone. Touch the option for more information, and to set up Face unlock. – Lock screen widgets : Customize your clock and personal message. – Improve facial recognition : Have your face captured in different conditions. – Presence check : Require a blink to unlock your phone. – Make pattern visible : Display the security pattern. – Lock automatically: Automatically lock the phone when the screen has turned off after a selected amount of time. – Lock instantly with power key: Instantly lock your phone by pressing the Power/Lock Key. • Face and voice : Unlock your phone by looking at the screen and speaking. This option offers low security, because someone who looks and/or sounds similar to you could unlock your phone. Touch the option for more information, and to set up Face and voice unlock. Touch the option, then follow the prompts to create or change your screen unlock pattern. – Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. – Make pattern visible : Display the security pattern. – Lock instantly with power key : Instantly lock your phone by pressing the Power/Lock Key. •PIN : Enter a numeric PIN (Personal Identification Number) to unlock your phone. – Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. – Lock automatically : Automatically lock your phone 5 seconds after the screen turns off. – Lock instantly with power key : Instantly lock your phone by pressing the Power/Lock Key. • Password : Enter an alphanumeric password to unlock your phone. – Lock screen widgets: Customize your clock and personal message. – Lock automatically: Automatically lock the phone when the screen has turned off after a selected amount of time. – Lock instantly with power key : Instantly lock your phone by pressing the Power/Lock Key. •None : Disable all Screen lock settings. 124
