3.1 Making phone calls
3.1.1 With the handset
1Lift the handset and press {TA L K}.
2Dial the telephone number.
3When finished talking, press {OFF} or place 
the handset on the base unit.
To mute your conversation
During a call, you can mute your unit so the other 
party cannot listen to you. When the call is 
muted, you will be able to hear the other party.
Press {Mute} (soft key 1).

LTo delete the displayed number, press 
{Erase} (soft key 1).
LTo exit the list, press {OFF}.

LWhen the other party answers, talk into 
{MIC}.

3.2 Answering phone calls
3.2.1 With the handset
1Lift the handset and press {TA L K} or {SP-
PHONE}.
LYou can also answer a call by pressing 
any button except {v}, {e} or {OFF} 
(Any key talk feature).
2When finished talking, press {OFF} or place 
the handset on the base unit.
Auto talk feature (Handset)
This feature allows you to answer a call by simply 
lifting the handset off the base unit, without 
pressing {TA L K} or {SP-PHONE}. The default 
setting is OFF. To activate this...

3.3 Storing names and 
telephone numbers into 
the phone book
For rapid access to frequently dialed numbers, 
the base unit and handset provide the phone 
book (50 items each).
LItems stored in the phone book can be copied 
from the base unit to the handset (page 38).
3.3.1 With the handset
Make sure the handset and base unit are not 
being used.
1Press {Phone book} (soft key 1).
LThe display shows the number of items in 
the phone book.
2Press {Add} (soft key 1).

Helpful hints:
LFor your convenience, HELP-FAX (1-800-
435-7329) has been stored in the base unit 
phone book. If you cannot solve a problem, 
call this number from the base unit (page 37). 
If not needed, you can erase it (page 38).
LYou can confirm the stored items by printing 
the telephone number list (page 95).
To correct a mistake
Press {} to move the cursor to the 
incorrect character/number, and then make the 
correction.
To delete a character/number

LKeep the front cover page open for button 
locations.
3.6.1 With the handset
Make sure the handset is not being used.
1Press {Phone book} (soft key).
2Press {Search} (soft key).
3Press {v} or {e} repeatedly to display the 
desired item.
4Press {Erase} (soft key).
5Press {Ye s} (soft key).
LTo cancel erasing, press {No} (soft key).
LTo erase other items, repeat steps 3 to 5.
6Press {OFF}.
