    that produce heat.
    9) Do not defeat the safety purpose of the
    polarized or grounding-type plug. A
polarized plug has two blades with one
wider than the other. A grounding-type
plug has two blades and a third ground-
ing prong. The wide blade or the third
prong are provided for your safety. If the
provided plug does not fit into your outlet,
consult an electrician for replacement of
the obsolete outlet.10) Protect the power cord from being
walked on or pinched particularly at

    unit inoperable.)
    ≥Sandy places such as beaches.

Do not play your headphones or earphones
at a high volume. Hearing experts advise
    against continuous extended play.
If you experience a ringing in your ears,
    reduce volume or discontinue use.
Do not use while operating a motorized
vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is
    illegal in many areas.
You should use extreme caution or
    temporarily discontinue use in potentially
    hazardous situations.
Even if your headphones or earphones are
the open-air type designed to let you hear
outside sounds, don’t turn up the volume so
high that you can’t hear what’s around you.
Sound can be deceiving. Over time your
hearing “comfort level” adapts to higher
volumes of sound. So what sounds
“normal” can actually be loud and harmful to
    your hearing.
Guard against this by setting your
equipment at a safe level BEFORE your
    hearing adapts.
    To establish a safe level:
≥Start your volume control at a low
    setting.
≥Slowly increase the sound until you can
hear it comfortably and clearly, and
    without distortion.
Once you have established a comfortable
    sound level:
≥Set the dial and leave it there.

    Panasonic DVD-R recorded and finalized
on a Panasonic DMR-E20 DVD video recor-

    Disc handling
    precautions
Do not use irregularly shaped discs, such as
    heart-shaped.
(These discs can damage the unit.)
    ∫How to hold a disc
Do not touch the recorded shiny surface.
    ∫If the surface is dirty

    number LF-K200DCA1.
≥Never use cloths or cleaners for CDs, etc.
∫If the disc is brought from a cold to a
    warm environment, moisture may
    form on the disc
    If the disc is a DVD-RAM or a DVD-R,
    use the DVD-RAM/PD disc cleaner
    (LF-K200DCA1, available from Panasonic
    dealers) to wipe dry.

    or heating appliance
    Playing CD-R/RW and
    MP3
This unit can play CD-R and CD-RW if they
are formatted as CD-DA (digital audio) or
video CD and finalized (a process that
allows CD-R and CD-RW to be played on
    compatible equipment).
It may not be able to play some CD-R or
CD-RW due to the condition of the
    recording.
Discs recorded using MP3 differ to CDs
    in the following ways.
    ≥Structure of the disc (example)
≥Starting play from a selected chapter
≥Press the numbered buttons and press
    [ENTER].
    ≥Example: Chapter 23: [2]>[3]>[ENTER]
    ≥Example:
    (Pressing [S10] is unnecessary.)
    ≥Repeat play
≥You can use chapter repeat or title repeat
    (➡page 26).
    ≥Program play, random play
≥You cannot use program play or random
    play.
≥On-Screen Menu Icons for disc infor-
    mation during play
    Note
≥If you play an MP3 track that includes still
picture data, it will take some time before
the music itself starts playing and the
elapsed time will not be displayed during
this time. Even after the track starts, the
correct play time will not be displayed.
≥This unit is not compatible with ID3 tags.
Refer to the glossary on page 44 for more
    information about MP3.

supply cord is connected. The primary
circuit is always “live” as long as the
AC adaptor is connected to an electrical
    outlet.
    BEFORE USE
    Remove the insulation sheet from
between the built-in battery and unit.
Leave the built-in battery attached when-
    ever you use the unit.
You can power the unit in one of four ways.

    ≥Optional battery pack (➡page 35)
    Using the AC adaptor
∫When the unit is not going to be used
    for a long time
The unit consumes 0.9 W when in standby
    mode.
To conserve power, disconnect the AC
power supply cord from the AC outlet.
    Note
    Refer to “IMPORTANT SAFETY
    INSTRUCTIONS” on page 6.
    Note
≥Do not expose the remote control signal
    sensor to bright light.
≥Do not place obstacles between the
remote control signal sensor and the
    remote control.
≥Do not use another unit’s remote control at
the same time. ∫Replacing the button-type battery
The battery normally lasts for about a year.
Replace if the remote control fails to operate
the unit when used within the operation
    range.
    Note
    Refer to “IMPORTANT SAFETY
