31 Advanced operations RQT5741 Summary of settings This chart shows the settings for this unit. See page 30 for details on menu operation. Underlined items are the factory preset. The menu and on-screen message language has been factory preset to English. You can change the language by going to “Menu Language” in the Display menu. Items Audio Choose the preferred audio language. Subtitle Choose the preferred subtitle language. Menus Choose the preferred language for disc menus. Ratings (➡ page 32) Set a ratings level to limit DVD-Video play. The password screen is shown if you choose levels 0 to 7 or if you choose “Ratings” when levels 0 to 7 have been selected. Select “Level 0” to prevent play of discs that do not have ratings levels recorded on them. TV Aspect (➡ page 11)Choose the setting to suit your television and preference. TV Type ( ➡ ➡➡ ➡ ➡ page 11) Change the setting to suit your television. Still Mode (➡ page 32) Specify the type of picture shown when paused. Input a 4-digit password with the numbered buttons and press [ENTER]. If you enter a wrong number, press [CANCEL] to erase it before you press [ENTER]. The lock symbol appears closed to show the rating is locked. Do not forget your password. 2. Press [ENTER] to confirm the 4 digits. Now, when you insert a DVD-Video that exceeds the ratings limit you set, a message appears on the television. Follow the on-screen instructions. The equipment you connected will be unable to output audio when the re-master circuit is functioning if it cannot handle digital signals with sampling frequencies of 88.2 kHz or more. Off:Digital signals are not output. This improves sound quality when you are using analog connection. RE-MASTER is only effective on the audio signals from CDs. Audio—Audio during Search Audio will be heard when playing some DVD-Audio despite the settings you make here. Others—DVD-Video Mode Off:DVD-Audio discs are played as DVD-Audio discs. On:DVD-Audio discs are played in a similar fashion to DVD-Video discs. The setting reverts to “Off” if the disc tray is opened or the unit is turned off. These settings are not necessary when you select “2-channel” (only two speakers are connected). ASpeaker presence and size () 1. Use the joystick [,,,] to select the item and press [ENTER]. 2. BDelay time () (Dolby Digital, center and surround speakers only) For optimum listening with 5.1-channel sound, all the speakers, ex- cept for the subwoofer, should be the same distance from the seat- ing position. If you have to place the center or surround speakers closer to the seating position, adjust the delay time to make up for the difference. If distance (from the center speaker) and (from the surround speakers) are the same as or greater than (from the front speak- ers), leave the delay time as “0”, the factory preset. If either distance or is less than , find the difference in the relevant table and change to the recommended setting. Changing the delay time 1. Use the joystick [,,,] to select the delay time box and press [ENTER]. 2. Move the joystick [,] to adjust the delay time and press [ENTER]. Channel balance () 1. Use the joystick [, ,,] to select “Test” and press [ENTER]. A test signal is output from one speaker at a time, starting with the front left speaker and proceeding clockwise. Advanced operations RQT5741 34 Changing settings Digital output Change these settings when you have connected equipment through this unit’s DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminals (OPTICAL or COAXIAL). Refer also to Common procedures (➡ page 30) and the Audio sec- tion in Summary of settings (➡ page 31). PCM Down Conversion Select how to output the high-quality audio signals (sampling fre- quencies of 96 kHz and 88.2 kHz) on discs that do not have copy- right protection. Choose the settings to suit the equipment you have connected. 1The equipment cannot output signals of 88.2 kHz or more if the setting is “No” and the equipment is unable to handle these signals. 2This setting allows the re-master settings (➡ page 23) to work on the digital signals from CDs. 3Choose this setting when you have connected equipment that cannot handle signals of 88.2 kHz or more, as the equipment will be unable to output audio when the re-master circuit is func- tioning. Note Signals are down-sampled to either 48 kHz or 44.1 kHz despite the above settings if they have a sampling frequency of 176.4 kHz or more or are copyright protected. To enjoy Dolby Pro Logic If you connect an amplifier that can decode Dolby Pro Logic, you will also need to connect center and surround speakers to enjoy surround sound. Read the instructions for the equipment for connection details. Turn Advanced Surround off (➡ page 23). Dolby Pro Logic will not function correctly if Advanced Surround is on. Reference RQT5741 38 No response when buttons pressed. No operations can be performed with the remote control or the professional commander. The remote control cannot operate the television. Play fails to start even when [] (play) is pressed. Play starts but then stops immediately. Alternative languages fail to be selected. No subtitles. Soundtrack and/or subtitle language is not the one selected with the ACTION menus. Angle cannot be changed. You have forgotten your ratings password. Reset all the settings to Factory Preset. Before requesting service, make the below checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem: In the U.S.A., contact the Panasonic Customer Call Center at 1-800-211-7262, or e-mail [email protected], or web site (http://www.panasonic.com). In Canada, contact Panasonic Canada Inc. Customer Care Centre at 1-800-561-5505, web site (www. panasonic.ca), or an authorized Servicentre closest to you. Reference pages are shown as black circled numbers . Power Some operations may be prohibited by the disc. The unit may not be operating properly due to lightning, static electricity or some other external factor. Reset procedure: Press [POWER, /I] to switch the unit to the standby mode and then back to ON. Alternatively, press [POWER, /I] to switch the unit to the standby mode, disconnect the AC power supply cord, and then reconnect it. Check the batteries are installed correctly. The batteries are depleted: Replace them with new ones. Point the remote control or the professional commander at the remote control sensor and operate. Change the manufacturer code. The remote control is unable to operate some types of televisions. Condensation has formed: Wait 1 to 2 hours for it to evaporate. This unit cannot play discs other than DVD-RAM, DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, Video CD and CD. This unit cannot play DVD-Video with a region number other than “1”, “ALL” or multiple region numbers including “1”. The disc may be dirty and may require cleaning. Ensure that the disc is installed with the label of the side to be played facing upwards. Check that the DVD-RAM has something recorded on it. An alternative language is not selected with discs which do not contain more than one language. In the case of some discs, the alternative language cannot be selected with [AUDIO] or [SUBTITLE]. Try selecting it from the disc’s menu if one is available. Subtitles appear only with discs that contain them. Subtitles are cleared from the television. Display the subtitles. The language is not recorded on the disc. This function is dependent on software availability. Even if a disc has a number of angles recorded, these angles may be recorded for specific scenes only. While stopped, press and hold [] and [] on the unit and then also press and hold [] on the unit until “Initialized” disappears from the television. Turn the unit off and on again. All settings will return to the default values. Insert the AC power supply cord securely into the household AC outlet. To conserve power, the unit automatically switches to standby after approximately 30 minutes in the stop mode. Turn the power back to ON. [You can use the ACTION menus (Others — Auto Power Off) to turn this feature off if you would prefer. ] Operation No power. The unit is automatically switched to the standby mode. 39 Reference RQT5741 Picture Displays Picture distorted. No picture. The picture shown on the television is not normal. (The sides of the picture are cut off or black bands appear at the top and bottom of the screen.) There is a lot of ghosting. Colors are strange. Picture quality is poor. Some distortion is normal during SEARCH. The screen may be disrupted briefly when you turn off the AUDIO ONLY feature. Ensure that the equipment is connected properly. Make sure the television is on. Ensure the television’s video input setting (e.g., VIDEO 1) is correct. If “This disc is PAL system. The output is sound only. ” is on the television, then you have loaded a PAL system DVD-Audio and only the audio portion of the disc can be played. Go to the Video menu in the ACTION screen, and change “TV Aspect” to suit your television. You may also need to change the screen mode on the television itself. If you are using progressive output, try changing 4:3 ASPECT and Shift Position with the on-screen menu icons. Ensure that the unit is connected directly to the television, and is not connected through a video cassette recorder. You cannot view progressive video if your television is not designed to receive progressive signals. Ghosting may occur due to the editing method or material used on some DVDs when connected to a television through the 480P COMPONENT VIDEO OUT (progressive) terminals. It should be corrected by connecting the television through the VIDEO OUT, S VIDEO OUT, or COMPONENT VIDEO OUT (interlace) terminals. Use the on-screen menu icons to turn off noise reduction or adjust the picture quality. Check the settings (U4/U5) in the on-screen menu’s video menu. Check the settings in the on-screen menu’s video menu. Sound No sound. Distorted sound. Piercing noise comes from the speakers.Check the connections. Check the volume on the equipment you have connected. Ensure that the input settings for the television and stereo system are correct. If you have connected this unit to an amplifier through the AUDIO OUT terminals, go to the Audio menu in the ACTION menus, and change “Speaker Setting” to suit your speakers. Select the large or small icon for all the speakers you have connected. Turn Advanced Surround off if it causes distortion. Output from this unit will be in stereo (two channels) when Advanced Surround is on. Turn Advanced Surround off if you are using three or more speakers. Due to the specifications on some types of televisions, both video and audio may be cut off when you turn the AUDIO ONLY feature on.
