121 Recording ∫Screen display (When set to [ZOOM]) ¢ This zoom slider is displayed when using an interchangeable lens that supports the power zoom. •When an interchangeable lens supporting power zoom is in use and [ZOOM] is set, the zoom enters the Extended Tele conversion area after reaching the T-end of the optical zoom area. •The indicated zoom magnification is an approximation. •When the Extended Tele Conversion is used, angle of view for still pictures will be different from the angle of view for motion pictures because the zoom factor is different between them. Angle of view for recording can be checked beforehand by matching the [Rec Area] (P59) setting to the mode you wish to record in. •Extended Tele Conversion is not available in the following cases. –[Toy Effect] (Creative Control Mode)–When [Quality] is set to [ ], [ ] or [ ]–When [Burst Rate] is set to [SH] –When [HDR] is set to [ON]–[Multi Exp.] A Optical Zoom range (Focal length) ¢ BExtended Tele Conversion range for still picture recording (Zoom magnification) BA

122 Recording You can perform zoom operations by touching. (Touch zoom) (Optical Zoom and Extended Tele Conversion for still picture recoding are operable) • If you are using an interchangeable lens not supporting power zoom (H-HS12035, H-VS014140), you can only operate the Extended Tele Conversion for pictures by setting [Ex. 123 Recording Taking pictures by using the flash Applicable modes: ∫Open/Close the built-in flash Taking a picture using the flash becomes possible by opening the built-in flash. A To open the built-in flash Turn the camera on, and press the flash open button. BTo close the built-in flash Press the built-in flash until it clicks. • Forcibly closing the flash can damage the camera.•Be sure to close the built-in flash when not in use. •The built-in flash does not open automatically.•Be careful not to catch a finger when closing the built-in flash. ∫The available flash range If the distance to the subject is close when taking a picture using a flash, part of the recorded image becomes dark because the light of flash is blocked by the lens or it becomes out of flash range. Check the distanc e to the subject when taking a picture. The distance at which light from the flash is bl ocked by lens, and the distance to which light from the flash is delivered vary depending on the lens used. • The available flash range is an approximation.•This is the range when ISO Limit Set (P134) is set to [OFF]. 124 Recording •When recording with the flash, white saturation can occur if the subject is too close. If [Highlight] of the [Custom] menu is set to [ON], regions of white saturation will blink black and white when you play back or use Auto Review. In this case, we recommend that you adjust [Flash Adjust.] (P133) in the minus direction and record the pictures again. •Do not bring the flash too close to objects or close the flash while it is activated. The objects may be discolored by its heat or lighting. •Do not close the flash soon after the flash is activated prior to taking pictures due to Forced ON/ Red-Eye Reduction etc. It causes a malfunction. •Recording a subject from too close, or without sufficient flash will not provide the appropriate level of exposure, and may result in a picture that is too white or dark. •You must wait a moment to take the next picture while the flash icon is blinking RED indicating the flash is charging. •If recording a subject without sufficient flash, the White Balance may not be properly adjusted.•When you use certain lenses, light from the flash may be blocked or fail to cover the lens field of view, causing dark areas to appear in the resulting pictures. •When taking pictures with flash with the lens hood attached, the lower portion of the photo may turn dark and the control of the flash may be disabled because the photo flash may be obscured by the lens hood. We recommend detaching the lens hood. •It may take time to charge the Flash if you repeatedly take pictures. Take a picture after the access indication disappears. •The Red-Eye Reduction effect differs between peo ple. Also, if the subject was far away from the camera or was not looking at the first flash, the effect may not be evident. •When you attach an external flash, it takes priority over the built-in flash. Refer to P265 for the external flash.

Changing Flash Mode ItemDescription of settings ‰([Forced Flash On]) The flash is activated every time regardless of the recording conditions. •Use this when your subject is back-lit or under fluorescent light.([Forced On/ Red-Eye])¢1 ([Slow Sync.]) When taking pictures against a dark background landscape, this feature will slow the shut ter speed when the flash is activated. Dark background landscape will appear brighter. •Use this when you take pictures of people in front of a dark background. •Using a slower speed can cause motion blur. Using a tripod can enhance your photos. ([Slow Sync./ Red-Eye])¢ 1 Œ([Forced Flash Off]) The flash is not activated in any recording conditions.•Use this when you take pictures in places where the use of flash is not permitted. •Close the flash to turn it off when the built-in flash is used. ¢ 1 You can adjust the flash output only when [Fir ing Mode] in [Flash] is set to [TTL].
